In this paper, the numerical methods of finding the optimal position of optical phase conjugator(OPC) and the optimal fiber dispersions are proposed, which are able to effectively compensate overall channels in $8{\times}40$ Gbps WDM system with non zero-dispersion shifted fiber(NZ-DSF) as an optical fiber. And the compensation characteristics in the system with two induced optimal parameters are compared with those in the system with mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) technique in order to confirm the availability of the proposed methods. It is confirmed that the optimal parameter values induced in this approach are very useful to effectively compensate overall channels in WDM system with OPC. And, it is confirmed that two optimal parameters depend on each other, but less related with the searching procedure. The methods proposed in this research will be expected to alternate with the method of making a symmetrical distribution of power and local dispersion in real optical link which is a serious problem of applying the OPC into multi-channels WDM system.
In this study, we propose a design method to optimize the electro-optical efficiency of a planar solar cell structure by adjusting one-dimensionally periodic emitter electrodes. Since the aperture ratio of the active layer decreases as the period of the emitter electrode decreases, the amount of light absorption diminishes, affecting the performance of the device. Here we design the optimal structure of the periodic emitter electrode in a simple planar solar cell, by simulation. In terms of optics, we find the condition that shows optical performance similar to that of a reference without the emitter electrode. In addition, the optimized electrode structure is extracted considering both the optical and electrical efficiency. This work will help to increase the utilization of solar cells by suggesting a structure that can most efficiently transfer charge generated by photoelectric conversion to the electrodes.
New photopolymers were designed and prepared using the photosensitive polymer binders. Holographic gratings were successfully fabricated in these photopolymer samples by a conventional optical interference method. We also investigated the effect of photocrosslink in the polymer binder on the diffraction behavior of a new photopolymer. The dynamic behavior of the grating formation was monitored by changing exposure intensity in terms of the diffraction efficiency. Particularly, we focused our efforts in observing the variation of diffraction efficiency during a post UV curing process. The surface topographical change of photopolymer layer before and after Vis/UV light exposure was observed by atomic force microscope (AFM). We inscribed the gratings of the glass diffuser on the surface of the photopolymer and investigated their diffusing properties. The diffusers with photopolymer with the main chain polymer binder showed relatively good viewing angle of around ${\pm}30{\circ}$. Two kinds of photopolymer showed similar uniformity of around 47-54%.
LED arrays with pixel numbers of $3{\times}3$, $4{\times}4$, and $5{\times}5$ have been studied in this paper in order to enhance the optical output power and decrease heat dissipation of an AlGaInP-based light emitting diode display device (pixel size of $280{\times}280{\mu}m$) fabricated by micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems. Simulation results showed that the thermal resistances of the $3{\times}3$, $4{\times}4$, $5{\times}5$ arrays were $52^{\circ}C/W$, $69.7^{\circ}C/W$, and $84.3^{\circ}C/W$. The junction temperature was calculated by the peak wavelength shift method, which showed that the maximum value appears at the center pixel due to thermal crosstalk from neighboring pixels. The central temperature would be minimized with $40{\mu}m$ pixel pitch and $150{\mu}m$ substrate thickness as calculated by thermal modeling using finite element analysis. The modeling can be used to optimize parameters of highly integrated AlGaInP-based LED arrays fabricated by micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems technology.

A guide-wave electro-optical modulatored direct-ional coupler 1X2 was fabricated on LiNbO$_3$ by proton exchange with self-aligned method After proton exchange process, the waveguide is formed by annealing process, The relationship between refractive index change of waveguide and maximun output was studied a long the annealing time. A self-alinged method was used to simplify the fabrication process of the waveguide and the maximize the efficiency of electric field. The modulatored directional coupler 1${\times}$2 has very good figures of merits; The measured crosstalk was -29.5[dB] and the modulating voltage of 8.0[V].

In this paper, a triply-encoded Hadamard transform imaging spectrometer is proposed by applying the grill spectrometer to the Hadamard transform imaging spectrometer. The proposed system encodes the input radiation triply ; once through the input image mask and twice through the two masks in the grill spectrometer. We use an electro-optical mask in the grill spectrometer which is controlled by a left-cyclic simplex matrix. Then we modeled the system using $D^{-1}$ method. In this paper, the average mean square error associated with a recovered estimate is considered for performance evaluation. The relative performance is compared with those of the other conventional systems.
The Q-switching oscillator of TE $M_{00}$ mode was constructed in order to improve the properties of energy focusing and amplification, and prevent laser materials from breakdown. The Q-switching was done by means of electro-optical effect using Glan prism and KDP Pockels cell. Sharp laser pulse of risetime-1 ns and variable pulse width 2-10 ns was obtained from Q-switching laser pulse by PTM method using a laser triggered spark gap (LTSG), Glan prism and Pockels cell. A single ultra-short pulse (picosec order in pulse width) was obtained from mode-locked pulse train in combination of a mode-locked oscillator using saturable dye cell with pulse shaping system using PTM method.d.
The new oxidation method was presented to grow the oxide layer by thermal reaction of $NH_{3}$ and $O_{2}$. The growth rate increased according as increase of partial pressure of $NH_{3}$. Optical transparent of the grown film was 12% compared with 17% of thermal oxidation when the wave number was $1,100cm^{-1}$. The oxide layer with good quaility was obtained.

The geometriccorrection of a satellite imagery is performed by making a systematic correction with satellite ephemerides and attitude angles followed by employing the Ground Control Points (GCSs) or Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). In a remote area or an inaccessible area, however, GCPs are unavailable to be surveyed and thus they can be obtained only by reading maps, which are not accurate in reality. In this study, we performed the systematic correction process to the inaccessible area and the precise geometric correction process to the adjacent accessible area by using GCPs. Then we analyzed the correlation between the two geo-referenced Korea Multiurpose Satellite (KOMPSAT-1 EOC) images. A new geometrical correction for the inaccessible area imagery is achieved by applying the correlation to the inaccessibleimagery. By employing this new method, the accuracy of the inaccessible area imagery is significantly improved absolutely and relatively.

In this thesis, an anchoring energy in the upper and lower substrates of TFT-LCD cell has been modeled and applied in the numerical calculation of the molecular orientation of the TN-LCD. The molecular orientation of liquid crystals defined as tilt and twist angles was simulated using the Newton-Raphson method and the Gaussian integration method. From the results, the tilt and twist angles for the strong anchoring energy were proven to be coincide with those of the conventional results. on the other hand, for the weak anchoring energy, azimuth angles of the molecules were changed abruptly from $0^{\circ}\;to\;90^{\circ}$ near the middle area of the cell due to the balance of the anchoring energy and the elastic energy of the liquid crystals.
