전자 홀로그래피 및 초 다시점 3차원 영상 디스플레이 (Supermultiview and Electro-Holographic 3-D Imaging Display)

  • 초 다시점 및 전자 홀로그래픽 디스플레이는 향후 기대가 되는 연속시차를 주는 3차원 디스플레이 방식이나, 아직 가용한 디스플레이의 부재로 초기 개발 단계에 있다. 초 다시점의 구현은 다시점 영상의 수 보다는 화소셀/요소 영상내의 화소 수와 화소 사이즈에 의존하며, 전자 홀로그래피도 전체 패널내의 화소 수와 화소 사이즈에 의존하므로 이들의 구현을 위한 요구 사항에는 차이가 없다. 그러나 구현 영상자체는 전자 홀로그래피의 경우는 공간 부양 영상이므로 초 다시점의 패널을 앞뒤로 한 깊이감의 표시보다 시각적인 효과가 더 클 것으로 예상된다.

  • In the field of 3D display, holographic displays are the only technology allowing optimal user comfort. We have developed systems based on compact projection optics, that allow advantageous new features, like large size full-color3D scenes generated at high rate on a micro-display with state of the art resolution.

  • Recently a study of Virtual-Reality becomes active. Expectation to 3-D reproduction technology rises with it. Electro-holography using Spatial light modulator (SLM) attracts attention, because natural 3-D animated image is provided. In this paper recent development of 3D-TV by Electro-holography is reported. We consider the conditions to holographic TV such as input, transmission and display systems. Also we consider about fast hologram calculation because It is important to execute hologram calculation at high speed to realize the real time electro-holography. Then we consider the possibility of real time holography.

  • The effects of surfactant on the electro-optic properties of holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal(HPDLC) have been studied hoping to increase the diffraction efficiency and to reduce the anchoring energy at interfaces. Octanoic acid(OA) was used as sulfactant. The 2,2,2 trifluoroethyl acrylate(TFEA) was added to the monomer mixture to enhance the phase separation and improve optical properties. The morphology of holographic gratings was examined using scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Addition of surfactant was likely to reduce the surface anchoring of the nematic droplet with the polymer surface which favors lowering of the swiching field and to improve the optical qualities.

  • Characteristics of holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal(HPDLC) were studied according to various matrix materials to improve the electro-optic properties. Various types of polyurethane acrylates (PUAs) have been designed and synthesized. The morphologies of these gratings were measured by atomic force microscopy(AFM) and electro-optic properties were obtained with UV-visible spectroscopy. Real time measurements of grating fabrication have been obtained according to PUA structures. High reflection efficiency was obtained by modifying the molecular structure.

Photopolymer Composed of a Photosensitive Polymer Binder Bearing a Chalcone Moiety in the Repeating Unit

  • New photopolymers were designed and prepared using the photosensitive polymer binders. Holographic gratings were successfully fabricated in these photopolymer samples by a conventional optical interference method. We also investigated the effect of photocrosslink in the polymer binder on the diffraction behavior of a new photopolymer. The dynamic behavior of the grating formation was monitored by changing exposure intensity in terms of the diffraction efficiency. Particularly, we focused our efforts in observing the variation of diffraction efficiency during a post UV curing process. The surface topographical change of photopolymer layer before and after Vis/UV light exposure was observed by atomic force microscope (AFM). We inscribed the gratings of the glass diffuser on the surface of the photopolymer and investigated their diffusing properties. The diffusers with photopolymer with the main chain polymer binder showed relatively good viewing angle of around ${\pm}30{\circ}$. Two kinds of photopolymer showed similar uniformity of around 47-54%.

3D Projection Screen using Advanced Volume Holography

  • The authors introduce 3D display systems developed in our laboratories for recent ten years. Those are mainly realized by several technologies in holography: electro-holography. holographic stereogram, holographic optical elements (HOE) and hologram screen. We are currently focusing the development of 3D projection screen without glasses. Powerful directionality of the light beam is required for 3D projection screen unlike 2D type. We succeeded in achieving the superior diffractive efficiency of hologram screen that is based on the advanced volume holography. This technology is extensively useful to retrieve the Bragg condition of volume hologram in the three-dimensional space. Owing to this technology we could establish the principle of multi-view projection screen and have confirmed the case of 4 viewing points.

  • The idea of displaying hologram electronically has been existed since mid $1960^{th}$. But it is still in the beginning stage due to the lacks of proper means of displaying and recording, which will bear the large amount of data contained in the hologram though holographic video and digital holography have demonstrated the possibility of displaying and photographing hologram electronically. It is expected that holography based 3 dimensional imaging system will be introduced much later than that on multiview 3 dimensional imaging methods which are being developed to generate more realistic and natural image than high definition plane images.
