Synthesis of Titanium Silicide by Electro-Discharge-Sintering of Ti and Si Powder Mixture (Ti 및 Si 혼합 분말의 전기방전소결에 의한 Titanium Silicide의 합성 연구)

  • The synthesis and consolidation of titanium silicide by electro-discharge-sintering has been investigated. As-received Ti powder was in flaky shape and the mean particle size was $45.0{\mu}m$, whereas the mean particle size of the pre-milled Si powder with angular shape was $8.0{\mu}m$. Single pulse of 2.5 to 5.0 kJ/0.34g-elemental Ti and pre-milled Si powder mixture with the composition of $Ti-37.5at.\%$ Si was applied using $300{\mu}F$ capacitor. The solid with $Ti_5Si_3$ phase has been successfully fabricated by the discharge with the input energy more than 2.5kJ in less than $129{\mu}sec.$ Hv values were found to be higher than $1000kgf/mm^2$. The formation of $Ti_5Si_3$ occurred through a fast solid state diffusion reaction.

A Study of Electro-Discharge-Sintering of Ti-6Al-4V Spherical Powders Doped with Hydroxyapatite by Spex Milling and Its Consolidation Characteristics (Hydroxyapatite가 도핑된 Ti-6Al-4V 구형 분말의 전기방전 소결 및 소결체 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders in the size range of 250 and 300 ${\mu}m$ were uniformly doped with nano-sized hydroxyapatite (HAp) powders by Spex milling process. A single pulse of 0.75-2.0 kJ/0.7 g of the Ti-6Al-4V powders doped with HAp from 300 mF capacitor was applied to produce fully porous and porous-surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implant compact by electro-discharge-sintering (EDS). The solid core was automatically formed in the center of the compact after discharge and porous layer consisted of particles connected in three dimensions by necks. The solid core increased with an increase in input energy. The compressive yield strength was in a range of 41 to 215 MPa and significantly depended on input energy. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer were used to investigate the surface characteristics of the Ti-6Al-4V compact. Ti and O were the main constituents, with smaller amount of Ca and P. It was thus concluded that the porous-surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implant compacts doped with HAp can be efficiently produced by manipulating the milling and electro-discharge-sintering processes.

  • For a higher definition discharge cell, the method of high speed addressing is necessary. In order to modify the surface charges, the liquefied $TiO_2$ or MgO powder is added on MgO layer in front glass and on the phosphor in rear glass in micro barrier discharge. Both the electro-optical properties and the discharge time lag characteristics are measured from 4 inch. test panel, such as the discharge voltage, current, luminance, luminous efficacy and discharge time lag. As the results, the statistic time lag is improved by about 40 %.

  • We synthesized polyaniline films electrochemically under constant current conditions, which exhibited electric conductivity as high as 100 S/cm. By charge and discharge cycling of polyaniline films, we obtained specific discharge capacity as high as 195 mAH/g using HSO$_4$- doped polyaniline. For the polyaniline synthesized using H$_2$SO$_4$ and HClO$_4$ composite electrolyte. we also obtained specific discharge capacity as high as 134 mAHg which rivals inorganic electro- active materials.

Die Finishing Process Using Electro-Chemical Grinding (전해연삭을 이용한 금형의 다듬질 가공특성)

  • This paper describes the characteristic of die finishing to obtain smooth surface using electro-chemical grinding after cutting process. Electro-chemical grinding is possible under lower load and tool wear comparing with those in the mechanical grinding. Conventionally, if the metal bonding material of the grinding wheel is directly t contacted with workpiece, the current is circulated without electrolytic phenomena. Sometimes, electrical discharge is occurred between tool and workpiece. To cope with this problem, the metal-resin bonded pellet was used in this study. This pellet is composed of optimal volume of metal and resin powders and its characteristics are changable with the each volume of powders. Finally, high efficient die finishing is realized using metal resin bonded pellet in electro-chemical grinding.

  • Nowadays, itis inevitable trend to use high Xe gas contents for increase luminous efficiency and luminance in plasma display panel. However, the increase of Xe gas contents causes the driving voltage, although the brightness is increase. In this paper, we study the characteristics of electro optical according to Xe gas contents and gas pressure. Electro-optical characteristics were investigated by the discharge voltage, luminance and luminous efficacy measurements, respectively. With some increasing Xe gas contents and pressure, the electro-optical properties increased. However, the characteristics of electro-optical begin to be saturated, when too high increased Xe gas contents and pressure.

  • This paper deals with the numerical estimation of the bubble behavior and the partial discharge(PD) initiation voltage basis of electric field calculation with the coaxial coil layer-to-cylindrical electrode system for the simulation of high temperature superconducting coils. The theoretical results of bubble behavior and the PD initiation voltages showed fairly good agreements with the experimental results.
