The purpose of this paper is to explain the real characteristics of generation system of large scale power system of high voltage the grid connected PV power system for electricity industry. Main system is made up PCS in the class 150kVA. and we studied commercial operation in Korea-Western Power Company,(Tae-An headquarter) with the capacity of module is 122.5 $kW_p$. On the average, power plant utilities' utilization is 12.71 percent and consumption rate is 6.66 percent. We operated normally since 25th, August 2005 without any other problems.
This study analyzed the optimal electricity cost of a 100% renewable energy source (RES) based system. Especially energy storage system (EES) and supplementary biopower system as well as photovoltaic (PV) and wind power component were included in the proposed RES-based system to overcome the intermittence of RESs and to efficiently balance energy supply and demand. To comparatively analyze the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of different RES-based systems, six scenarios were developed according to the involved RESs: PV, wind, PV/wind, PV/biopower, wind/biopower, and PV/wind/biopower systems. We then applied the proposed systems to build a 100% RES-based system in Jeju Island, Korea. As a result, the single component based system, PV and wind power system of 0.18 and 0.28 $/kWh, respectively, cannot compete with the economics of existing electricity grid. However, the optimal LCOE of the hybrid system where PV and wind power are used as main supply options and biopower as supplementary option was identified to be 0.08 $/kWh, which can compete with the economics of an existing electricity grid.

A Smart Grid is a system that can efficiently use energy by exchanging real-time information in both directions between a consumer and a power supplier using ICT technology on an existing power network. DR(Demand response) is an arrangement in which electricity users can sell the electricity they save to the electricity market when the price of electricity is high or the power system is crisis. In this study, we developed a power meter data transmission device and power IT system that measure the demand information in real-time using a smart meter and transmit it to a cloud server. The power meter data transmission device developed in this study uses alight sensor connected to a Raspberry Pi 3 to measure the number of blinking lamps on the KEPCO meter per unit of power, in order to provide reliable data without any measurement errors with respect to the KEPCO power data. The power measurement data transmission device uses the standard communication protocol, OpenADR 2.0b. The measured data is transmitted to the power IT system, which consists of the VEN, VTN, and calculation program, via the LTE WiFi communication network and stored in its MySQL DB. The developed power measurement data transmission device issues a power supply instruction and performs a peak reduction DR when a power system crisis occurs. The developed power meter data transmission device has the advantage of allowing the user to adjust it every 1 minute, where as the existing smart metering time is fixed at once every 15 minutes.
Korean government has been implementing a smart grid testbed in Jeju Island for the low-carbon green growth. As smart grids are in the early stage of their diffusion, strategic guidelines and related measures are needed to spread them successfully. In general, the successful diffusion of new technologies or new products are mostly determined in its early stages. With the introduction of smart grids, the electricity market paradigm will be transformed into user-oriented from provider-oriented. Thus, a study on the diffusion of smart grids from the perspective of users is necessary. This paper examines factors affecting the adoption and diffusion of smart grids from users' perspectives and provide strategic guidelines for diffusing the smart grid. Researchers conducted in-depth interviews with 41 people who have been already using smart grids in the Jeju testbed. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. The interviews were recorded on a digital voice recorder memory and subsequently transcribed verbatim. A total of 133 pages of transcripts were obtained from about 10 hours interviews. 97 concepts, 47 sub-categories and 19 categories were identified through open coding of grounded theory. We suggested a paradigm model for diffusing smart grids and total of seven propositions as strategic guidelines.
Objective signs are everywhere that the stationary energy storage market is growing up quickly. The use of distributed resources such as solar photovoltaics and electric vehicles are expanding at a rapid pace, creating technical challenges for the distribution system that will require energy storage and a new generation of software to address. This paper is intended for distribution utility managers and executives and makes the following points: ${\bullet}$ Utility-integrated (as opposed to merely grid-connected) energy storage projects represent a distinct, new wave of industry growth that is just getting underway and is required to manage distributed energy resources moving forward. ${\bullet}$ Utilities and the energy storage industry have important roles to lower risk in adopting this technology - thereby enabling this wave of growth. ${\circ}$ The industry must focus on engineering energy storage for adoption at scale - including the creation and support of software open standards -both to drive down costs and to limit technology and supplier risk for utilities. ${\circ}$ Utilities need to take a program-based, rather than a project- based, approach to this resource to best balance cost and risk as they procure and implement energy storage. By working together to drive down costs and manage risk, utilities and their suppliers can lay the energy storage foundation for a new, more digital distributed electricity system.
With the growing penetration of distributed generation including from renewable sources, smart grid power system is needed to address the reliability problem. One important feature of smart grid is demand response. In order to design a demand response program, it is indispensable to understand how consumer reacts upon the change of electricity price. In this paper, we construct an econometrics model to estimate the hourly price elasticity of demand. This panel model utilizes the hourly load data obtained from KEPCO for the period from year 2005 to 2009. The hourly price elasticity of demand is found to be statistically significant for all the sample under investigation. The samples used for this analysis is from the past historical data under the price structure of three different time zones for each season. The result of the analysis of this time of use pricing structure would allow the policy maker design an appropriate incentive program. This study is important in the sense that it provides a basic research information for designing future demand response programs.

Analyze the customer daily load patterns, be used to determine the optimal charging and discharging schedule which can minimize the electrical charges through the battery energy storage system(BESS) installed in consumers is an object of this paper. BESS, which analyzes the load characteristics of customer and reduce the peak load, is essential for optimal charging and discharging scheduling to save electricity charges. This thesis proposes optimal charging and discharging scheduling method, using particle swarm optimization (PSO) and penalty function method, of BESS for reducing energy charge. Since PSO is a global optimization algorithm, best charging and discharging scheduling can be found effectively. In addition, penalty function method was combined with PSO in order to handle many constraint conditions. After analysing the load patterns of target BESS, PSO based on penalty function method was applied to get optimal charging and discharging schedule.

With the increasing electricity consumption and the wide application of renewable energy sources, energy auction attracts a lot of attention due to its economic benefits. Many schemes have been proposed to support energy auction in smart grid. However, few of them can achieve range query, ranked search and personalized search. In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-keyword range query (EMRQ) scheme, which can support range query, ranked search and personalized search simultaneously. Based on the homomorphic Paillier cryptosystem, we use two super-increasing sequences to aggregate multidimensional keywords. The first one is used to aggregate one buyer's or seller's multidimensional keywords to an aggregated number. The second one is used to create a summary number by aggregating the aggregated numbers of all sellers. As a result, the comparison between the keywords of all sellers and those of one buyer can be achieved with only one calculation. Security analysis demonstrates that EMRQ can achieve confidentiality of keywords, authentication, data integrity and query privacy. Extensive experiments show that EMRQ is more efficient compared with the scheme in [3] in terms of computation and communication overhead.
The ZigBee network has been considered to monitor electricity usage of home appliances in the smart grid network. ZigBee, however, may suffer from a coexistence problem with wireless local area network (WLAN). In this paper, to resolve the coexistence problem between ZigBee network and WLAN, we propose a new protocol constructing a cognitive smart grid network for supporting monitoring of home appliances. In the proposed protocol, home appliances first estimates the transmission timing and channel information of WLAN by reading request to send/clear to send (RTS/CTS) frames of WLAN. Next, based on the estimated information, home appliances transmit a data at the same time as WLAN transmission. To manage the interference between WLAN and smart grid network, we propose a cognitive beamforming algorithm. The beamforming algorithm is designed to guaranteeing zero interference to WLAN while satisfying a required rate for smart metering. We also propose an energy efficient rate adaptation algorithm. By slowing down the transmission rate while satisfying an imperceptible impact of quality of service (QoS) of the receiver, the home appliance can significantly save transmit power. Numerical results show that the proposed multiple antenna technique provides reliable communications for smart metering with reduced power comparing to the simple transmission technique.

Photovoltaic energy conversion becomes main focus of many researches due to its promising potential as source for future electricity and has many advantages than the other alternative energy sources like wind, solar, ocean, biomass, geothermal etc. In Photovoltaic power generation multilevel inverters play a vital role in power conversion. The three different topologies, diode-clamped (neutral-point clamped) inverter, capacitor-clamped (flying capacitor) inverter and cascaded h-bridge multilevel inverter are widely used in these multilevel inverters. Among the three topologies, cascaded h-bridge multilevel inverter is more suitable for photovoltaic applications since each pv array can act as a separate dc source for each h-bridge module. This paper presents a single phase Cascaded H-bridge five level inverter for grid-connected photovoltaic application using sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique. This inverter output voltage waveform reduces the harmonics in the generated current and the filtering effort at the input. The control strategy allows the independent control of each dc-link voltages and tracks the maximum power point of PV strings. This topology can inject to the grid sinusoidal input currents with unity power factor and achieves low harmonic distortion. A PID control algorithm is implemented in Arm Processor LPC2148. The validity of the proposed inverter is verified through simulation and is implemented in a single phase 100W prototype. The results of hardware are compared with simulation results. The proposed system offers improved performance over conventional three level inverter in terms of THD.
