P300 component of the event-related potential(ERP) has been studied for theoretical, empirical, and clinical applications. Nowadays the 1-, 2-, and 3-stimulus oddball paradigms are used for eliciting P300 component of EEG in the auditory stimulus experiments. In this paper, we used a method to add one more stimulus to the 3-stimulus auditory paradigm. The adding stimulus has not the same volume but the same tone of the target stimulus. The 4-stimulus oddball paradigm to use two targets is used to elicit the P300 event-related potentials. In 4-stimulus oddball paradigm, an infrequent non-target (p=0.10) is presented in addition to two infrequent targets (p=0.10) and a frequent standard (p=0.70). Two target stimuli elicited a P300 component with a parietal maximum distribution. The amplitude of the P300 in target 2 was larger than that in target 1 and the latency of the P300 in target 2 was longer than that in target 1. The P300 component due to target 2 stimuli was larger than that due to target 1 stimuli. The experimental results approve that the 4-stimulus oddball paradigm can elicit P300 component clearly. The results are compared with the results of the traditional oddball paradigm.
An electrical stimulator was designed to induce locomotion for paraplegic patients caused by central nervous system injury. Optimal stimulus parameters, which can minimize muscle fatigue and can achieve effective muscle contraction were determined in slow and fast muscles in Sprague-Dawley rats. Stimulus patterns of our stimulator were designed to simulate electromyographic activity monitored during locomotion of normal subjects. Muscle types of the lower extremity were classified according to their mechanical property of contraction, which are slow muscle (msoleus m.) and fast muscle (medial gastrocneminus m., rectus femoris m., vastus lateralis m.). Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases. Portable electrical stimulator with 16 channels built in microprocessor was constructed and applied to paraplegic patients due to lumbar cord injury. The electrical stimulator restored partially gait function in paraplegic patients.
Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method is knowers as a unique method for preparing organic thin films, which can control thickness of the films in molecular level, and many kinds of ultra thin films of functional molecules have been prepared using this method. in this study, the electrical properties of phospholipid monolayers on a water surface was inve stigated by means of stimulus speed(40mm/min, 60mm/min).
In this paper, the method to calculate chromaticity coordinate from spectral power distribution of LED is presented. Also, inverse tri-stimulus algorithm to find mixed luminance of red, green, blue LED from targeted luminance and chromaticity coordinate is proposed. Besides, digital light color control system of LED lamp applied this algorithm has been developed. In experiments, each chromaticity coordinate of red, green, blue LED calculated from this algorithm has relative percentage error of few % to measured values. Digital code is drawn from inverse tri-stimulus algorithm, and measured values of luminance and chromaticity coordinate of LED lamp digitally controlled by this code also have relative percentage error within a few % to targeted luminance and chromaticity coordinate.
In the study We measured the MDC across lipidazobenzene monolayer system was the substrate. We discuss the cis-trans isomerization in Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films and examine the relationship between the structure of mixed LB films and the generation of MDCs due to photoisomerization. As results, mixed induce monolayer of view to memory and switching, it's own function by particles level think. Also, transmission results of stimulus signal it's form by current to appear.
Dendrimers represent a new class of synthetic macromoleculcs characterized by a regularly branched treelike structure. Multiple branching yields a large number of chain ends that distinguish dendrimers from conventional star-like polymers and microgels. The azobenzene dendrimer is one of the dendrimeric macromolecules that include the azo-group exhibiting a photochromic character. Due to the presence of the charge transfer element of the azo-group and its rod-shaped structure, these compounds are expected to have potential interest in electronics and photoelectronics, especially in nonlinear optics. In the present paper, we give pressure stimulation to organic thin films and detect the induced displacement current. Functional photoisometrization organic molecular the photo-stimulus to organic monomolecular L films and LB films of dendrimer and 8A5H were performed. The 8A5H organic monolayer in case of pressure stimulus occurred that positive course but in case of the photo-stimulus compared positive and negative. It is assumed that generation forms of displacement current were measured when photo-stimulus for impression.
Electrical stimulation through retinal prosthesis elicits both short and long-latency retinal ganglion cell (RGC) spikes. Because the short-latency RGC spike is usually obscured by electrical stimulus artifact, it is very important to isolate spike from stimulus artifact. Previously, we showed that topographic prominence (TP) discriminator based algorithm is valid and useful for artifact subtraction. In this study, we compared the performance of forward backward (FB) filter only vs. TP-adopted FB filter for artifact subtraction. From the extracted retinae of rd1 mice, we recorded RGC spikes with $8{\times}8$ multielectrode array (MEA). The recorded signals were classified into four groups by distances between the stimulation and recording electrodes on MEA (200-400, 400-600, 600-800, $800-1000{\mu}m$). Fifty cathodic phase-$1^{st}$ biphasic current pulses (duration $500{\mu}s$, intensity 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, $60{\mu}A$) were applied at every 1 sec. We compared false positive error and false negative error in FB filter and TP-adopted FB filter. By implementing TP-adopted FB filter, short-latency spike can be detected better regarding sensitivity and specificity for detecting spikes regardless of the strength of stimulus and the distance between stimulus and recording electrodes.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the change in sympathetic nervous system responses of healthy adult women with changes in stimulus intensity of high frequency transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Methods: Twenty-four healthy subjects (women) received high frequency electrical stimulation of the forearm. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of two groups; a low intensity stimulation group (n=12) and a high intensity stimulation group (n=12). The electrode attachment was arranged on the forearm of the dominant arm and the electricity stimulus time was 20 minutes. Measured items included skin conductance, pulse rate, skin temperature, and respiration rate. Each was measured at 4 times. Results: Skin conductance and skin temperature showed significant group by time interactions, though there were no significant group and time effects. There were no significant differences according to time, group effect, and a group by time interaction in pulse and respiration rates. Conclusion: High frequency and high intensity electrical stimulation may be helpful for the improvement of sudomotor function through the activation of the sympathetic nervous system. Also, high frequency and low intensity electrical stimulation may be helpful for the reduction of sudomotor function via inhibition of the sympathetic nervous system.
This paper experimentally deals with the excitation by functional electrical stimulus(FES) and the response of electromyo-potential at the muscles of antebrachial joint in a human body. The excitation of FES, which results in the contraction of the muscles and thus the flection of the joint, shows that the flection angle of the joint is proportional to the magnitude of the stimulus current. The response of electromyo-potential measured according to the FES shows the linearly-proportional relation between the joint torque and the electromyo-potential. The results can be used for active motion of joint rehabilitation.
Reinforcement learning (RL) has been widely used as a learning mechanism of an artificial life system. However, RL usually suffers from slow convergence to the optimum state-action sequence or a sequence of stimulus-response (SR) behaviors, and may not correctly work in non-Markov processes. In this paper, first, to cope with slow-convergence problem, if some state-action pairs are considered as disturbance for optimum sequence, then they no to be eliminated in long-term memory (LTM), where such disturbances are found by a shortest path-finding algorithm. This process is shown to let the system get an enhanced learning speed. Second, to partly solve a non-Markov problem, if a stimulus is frequently met in a searching-process, then the stimulus will be classified as a sequential percept for a non-Markov hidden state. And thus, a correct behavior for a non-Markov hidden state can be learned as in a Markov environment. To show the validity of our proposed learning technologies, several simulation result j will be illustrated.
