  • We analyzed voltage characteristics of toner particle type display according to particle layers and cell gap between two electrodes and ascertained the aging effects by measuring the response time of particles with and without aging process. The threshold/driving/breakdown voltage is proportional to layers of toner particles and cell gap and the response time at driving voltage is faster than that of threshold and breakdown voltage because of different q/m of color and black particles. The analysis of response time is a method of estimation of optical characteristics, driving voltage and particle lumping and these results are promoted by aging process. We use the laser and photodiode to measure response time and optical properties. It has not been studied and reported to analyze the relationship of response time, threshold/driving/breakdown voltage, lumping phenomena, cell gap, and aging process for toner particle type display.

  • In this paper we develop a method to observe faults in semiconductor devices and transmission lines by calculating the variation of the reflection function in a dielectric microstrip line that has an open-ended termination containing an optically induced plasma region. It is analyzed with the assumption that the plasma is distributed homogeneously in laser illumination. With the non linear material of degradation, the concentration of the carrier in the part of the material has changed. Since the input wave has produced the phenomenon of reflection, the input signal to the open-ended microstrip lines can be observed on reflection to identify the location of the fault. The characteristic impedances resulting from the presence of plasma are evaluated by the transmission line model. The variation of the reflection wave in the microwave system has been calculated by using an equivalent circuit model. The transient response has been also evaluated theoretically for changing the phase of the variation in the reflection. The variation of characteristic response in differentially localized has been also evaluated analytically.

  • An amperometric glucose biosensor has been developed using viologen derivatives as electron mediator of glucose oxidase (GOD) at Au electrode. Highly stable self assembled monolayer (SAM) of thiol-based viologen is immobilized onto the Au electrode followed byGOD is immobilized onto the viologen modified electrode. This biosensor response to glucose was evaluated amperometrically in the potential of -300 mV. Upon immobilization of glucose oxidase onto the viologen modified-electrode, the biosensor showed rapid response towards glucose. Experimental conditions influencing the biosensor performance such as, pH, potential were optimized and assessed. This biosensor offered an excellent electrochemical response for glucose concentration below ${\mu}mol$ level with high sensitivity and selectivity and short response time. The levels of the RSD's (< 5 %) for the entire analyses reflected the highly reproducible sensor performance. Using the optimized a linear relationship between current and glucose concentration was obtained up to $4.5{\times}10^{-4}$ M. In addition, this biosensor showed well reproducibility and stability.

  • As an Increased penetration level of renewable resources has caused concerns about primary frequency response, an increase in BESS(Battery Energy Storage System) capacity has been expected because of its fast response to the disturbances in the power system. This paper proposes the Integrated Control Strategy of multiple BESS for effectively providing the primary frequency control in the bulk power systems by coordinating the response, SOC and its recovery of BESS. The proposed strategy prevents multiple BESS from providing exceeding response and keeps the balance between SOC of multiple BESS. In addition, It would recover the SOC of BESS efficiently. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified through various case studies employing Korean power system.

  • Dynamic response of organic light-emitting diodes were analyzed in $ITO/Alq_3$(100 nm)/Al device structure with a variation of voltage an frequency. At low frequency region, complex impedance is mostly governed by resistive component, and at high frequency region by capacitive component. Also, we have evaluated resistance, capacitance and permittivity of devices.

  • The damping ratio $\zeta$ of the unit-step response of a second-order discrete system is a function of only the location of the closed-loop poles and is not directly related to the location of the system zero. However, the peak overshoot of the response is the function of both the damping ratio $\zeta$ and an angle $\alpha$, which is the phasor angle of the damped sinusoidal response and is determined by the relative location of the zero with respect to the closed-loop poles. Accordingly, when the closed-loop system poles are fixed, the peak overshoot is considered as a function of the angle $\alpha$ or the system zero location. In this paper the effects of the relative location of the zero on the system performance of a second-order discrete system is studied, and a design method of digital compensator which achieves arbitrary steady-state response with minimum peak overshoot while maintaining the desired system mode and the damping ratio of the unit step response is presented.

  • This study deals with the design of the mechanism in which demand response (DR) resources are traded in the power generation market. In general, a DR aggregator (DRA), which extends DR resources and provides technical support, is central to this mechanism. In this study, power users, called DR customer (DRC), participate in load reduction and are also modeled to participate directly in DR-related bidding. The DRA provides incentives to the DRC, indirectly impacting the market, and the DRC use the bid parameters strategically. We present the conditions for finding Nash Equilibrium (NE) in game problems of various participants including market operators, and analyze the characteristics of DRA and DRC related models. It also analyzes the impact of the participants on the market according to various types of competition and coalitions between DRA and DRC.

  • This paper proposes a simple feedforward compensator in order to decrease the amount of undershoots and overshoots on the step response in nonminimum phase systems. The compensator makes the step type input be a ramp input with saturation for 0$\leq$t<${\alpha}$. It is shown in this paper that the compensated system has small amount of undershoot and overshoot at the price of rise time compared to the system without compensator. Also, provided the system is properly stable, the influence of the design parameter ${\alpha}$ on the step response of the nonminimum phase system is investigated in the case of Type A, and Type B undershoot, which gives a guideline for the compensator design.

  • We investigated response characteristics of liquid crystal display(LCD) with different operating mode of nematic liquid crystals (NLCs) such as $45^{\circ}$twist nematic (TN), $67.3^{\circ}$TN and ECB(electrical controlled birefringence) on a rubbed polyimide (PI) surface. The three kinds of LCD operating mode obtain stable EO performance. Low transmittances of the $45^{\circ}$TN and $67.3^{\circ}$TN cell on the rubbed PI surface were achieved by using low cell gap d. The fast response time of ECB cell among the three kinds of LCD operating mode was measured.

  • This paper presents results of frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) measurements on oil-impregnated pressboard insulation, their analyses and use of the data for modeling high frequency response (FRA) of transformers. The dielectric responses were measured in a broad frequency range, i.e. from 0.1 mHz to 1 MHz, on model samples containing different amount of moisture. The responses were parameterized with terms representing dc conductivity, low frequency dispersion and Cole-Cole polarization mechanisms and they were thereafter used to model the FRA response of a three-phase transformer.
