Steady state thermal analysis has been done by a finite element method in a diode of 12kV blocking voltage. The diode was fabricated by soldering ten pieces of 1200V diodes in series, capping a dummy wafer at the far end of diode series, and finally wire bonded for building anode and cathode terminal. In order to achieve high voltage and reliability, the edge of each diode was beveled and passivated by resin with a thickness of 25${\mu}$m. It was assumed that the generated heat which is mainly by the on-state voltage drop, 9V for 12kV diode, is dissipated by way of the conduction through diodes layers to bonding wire and of the convection at the surface of passivating resin. It was predicted by the thermal analysis that the temperature rise of a pn junction of the 12kV diode can reach at the range of 16∼34$^{\circ}C$ under the given boundary conditions. The thickness and thermal conductivity(0.3∼3W/m-K) of the passivating resin did little effect to lower thermal resistance of the diode. As the length of the bonding wire increased, which means the distance of heat conduction path became longer, the thermal resistance increased considerably. The thermal analysis results imply that the generated heat of the diode is dissipated mainly by the conduction through the route of diode-dummy wafer-bonding wire, which suggests to minimize the length of the wire for the lowest thermal resistance.
In this study, the embroidery textile conductive wire of conductive yarn was designed into the wearable integrated clothing for sensing the infant's body temperature. To develop a high quality of the stable fiber-based textile conductive wire, firstly the five types of conductive yarns were twisted or covering polyester yarns and the coated conductive fiber with silver(Ag) or iron(Fe). As a result of comparative conductivity in conductive yarns of yarn processing, the 250 denier of conductive yarns with $0.74{\Omega}$/1~5cm were proposed and used for the integrated embroidery textile conductive wire for sensing. During experiments using the proposed embroidery textile conductive wire, measured resistance of thermistor according to the body temperature was correctly delivered to amplifier module, and showed feasible reliability of temperature sensing. As a wearable application, conductive yarns which takes forms of embroidery textile conductive wire would seems to be reliable as a conductive wire and could be replaced by the conductive metal wires.
This paper summarize about the auxiliary electrode measured a ground resistance The method to measure a ground resistance is the fall-of-potential method to using an auxiliary electrode. And an auxiliary electrode must be set up on the ground. Today it is so difficult to set up the auxiliary electrode on the ground because of many concrete building and many paved roads. So this paper is regarding of the ground resistance measurement by the substitute auxiliary electrode. It substituted a iron structure around the building, a wire net for auxiliary electrode. This information is confirmed by compared with the measurement value.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of a wire connector fabricated for the effective installation of a lighting fixture including its contact resistance, insulation resistance, withstanding voltage characteristics, etc., and to provide the basis for the analysis and judgment of PL(Product Liability) dispute by presenting a damage pattern due to a general flame and overcurrent. This study applied the Korean Standard (KS) for the incombustibility test of the connector using a general flame and performed an overcurrent characteristics test of the connector using PCITS (Primary Current Injection Test System). The contact resistance of the housing connector was measured using a high resistance meter and the insulation resistance was measured using a multimeter. In addition, a supply voltage of AC 1,500V for testing the withstanding voltage characteristics was applied to both ends of the connector. Measurement was performed on 5 specimens and the measured values were used as a basis for judgment. Since the connector is fabricated in the form of a housing, it can be connected and separated easily and has a structure that allows no foreign material to enter. In addition, since it has a structure that allows wires to be connected only when their polarity is identical, any misconnection that may occur during installation can be prevented. When the incombustibility test was performed by applying a general flame to the connector, it showed outstanding incombustibility characteristics and the blade and blade holder connected to the housing remained firmly secured even after the insulation sheath (PVC) was completely destroyed by fire. In addition, the mechanism of the damaged connecting wire showed a comparatively uniform carbonization pattern and it was found that some residual melted insulation material was attached to both ends. In the accelerated life test (ALT) to which approximately 500% of the rated current was applied, the connector damage proceeded in the order of white smoke generation, wire separation, spark occurrence and carbonization. That is, it could be seen that the connector damaged by overcurrent lost its own metallic color with traces of discoloration and carbonization. The contact resistance of the connector at a normal state was 2.164mV/A on average. The contact resistance measured after the high temperature test was 3.258mV/A. In addition, the insulation resistance after the temperature test was completed was greater than $10G\Omega$ and the withstanding voltage test result showed that no insulation breakdown occurred to all specimens showing stable withstanding voltage and insulation resistance characteristics.
In the cold and temperate regions of Korea the icing and ice coats on 25 kV overhead contact wire during winter is a very serious problem. This generates shocks at the mechanical interface of the collecting strips of the pantograph and the contact wire and extra electrical resistance, which may affect quality of current collection at the contact wire / collecting strips of pantograph interface. De-icing operations should be performed just before train operation to avoid the formation of another ice layer. This paper presents temperature analysis of the de-icing system which could be applied to the overhead contact wire of railways.
In order to develop a high temperature superconducting(HTS) coil for the fault current limiter(FCL), the over-current characteristics in YBCO coated conductor(CC) with Ni-W alloy substrate are analyzed. The HTS wire is wound by bifilar winding method for resistive current limitation and it is operated in 65K sub-cooled nitrogen. In order to analyze the resistance and the temperature characteristics of the CC wire, an analysis program is developed considering all the composition materials except the buffer layer. Using this program, the temperature rise, the resistance development and the current limitation of CC are calculated depending on the applied voltage and the stabilizer materials. According to the analysis results, under the temperature restriction of 300K, the maximum voltage per meter is determined as 40V/m if the stabilizer is $25{\mu}m$ thick stainless steel at each side. Finally, the wire length needed for the distribution level HTS FCL is estimated.
Footing Resistance of a 154 kV transmission towers in korea is commonly required to be less than 15 ohm to avoid lightning back-flashover accident. The periodic measurement of Footing Resistance is important to verify that the grounding performance of the towers has been maintained good. Towers are electrically connected in parallel with overhead grounding wire, therefore footing resistance of each tower will be measured after disconnecting the overhead ground wires from the towers. however, In this paper, three direct measurement methods of footing resistance are presented. There are very useful methods without disconnecting overhead ground wires from the tower under measurement. They are compared in KEPCO 154 kV transmission towers. The experimental results describe performances of them.
Platinum thin films were deposited on $Al_2$O$_3$substrate by DC magnetron sputtering for RTD(Resistance Thermometer Devices) temperature sensors. We made Pt resistance pattern on $Al_2$O$_3$substrate by lift-off method and fabricated Pt-RTD temperature sensors by using W-wire, silver epoxy and SOG(spin-on-glass). In the temperature range of 25~40$0^{\circ}C$, we investigated TCR(temperature coefficient of resistance) and resistance ratio of Pt-RTD temperature sensors. TCR values were increased with increasing the annealing temperature, time and the thickness of Pt thin films. Resistance values were varied lineally within the range of measurement temperature. At annealing temperature of 100$0^{\circ}C$, annealing time of 240min and thin film thickness of 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, we obtained Pt-RDT TCR value of 3825ppm/$^{\circ}C$ closed to the Pt bulk value.
It is anticipated that AC distribution system can be replaced by DC distribution system in the near future because of the operation of various distributed source or microgrid system. However DC distribution system replacing 22.9kV AC distribution line is not sufficiently studied still. This paper describes lightning overvoltage analysis among many research fields should be studied to realize DC overhead distribution systems. DC distribution system is modeled using EMTP and overvoltage is analyzed according to interval of arrestor location, earth interval of overhead grounding wire and grounding resistance. It is evaluated that analysis results can be effectively used to design of future DC distribution system.
