Research on Grounding Resistance for the Grounding Plate Electrodes (각판상전극의 접지저항에 관한 연구)

  • There are many electricity, electronics, and communication equipment which need to Grounding in the building. When electric current flows into a certain Grounding system in the same building, the potential of other Grounding system rises. This potential interference repuire surface potential of electrods by electrode shape. In this paper basic formula is deduced on the basis of both electrodes surface potential of Grounding electrode as a source of the potential interference and Grounding electrode which receive the potential interference. The degree of potential interference as multiple Grounding electrode is verified the simulated results by means of the simple model in advance.

Frequency Dependent Grounding Impedance As a Function of Soil Resistivity (대지저항률에 따른 접지임피던스의 주파수 의존성)

  • A design criterion of grounding systems is commonly based on low frequency resistance in Korea. When lightning surges which have high frequency components are injected into the grounding system, the grounding impedance is greatly different from the static grounding resistance. This paper presents the grounding adimittance and phase on the frequency range from 100 [Hz] to 15 [MHz] using water tank simulating the grounding system in different water resistivities. As a result, capacitive effect is dominant over the frequency of 100 [kHz] at the water resistivity of 1,000 [$\Omega$ m]. On the other hand, the inductive characteristics appear at the low water resistivity. Consequently, dependence of grounding impedances on the frequency of injected current is strongly related to resistivity.

  • Detailed estimation of subsurface resistivity distribution and accurate estimation of actual fault current coming into the grounding system are indispensible to optimun grounding system design. Especially, it is essential for efficient grounding design to estimate subsurface resistivity distribution quantitatively and logically. Accurate estimation of subsurface resistivity distribution has an absolute influence on calculating touch voltage, step voltage and ground potential rise (GPR) which are related with grounding design standard for human safety. In this study, thirty-three electrical sounding surveys were made in Yongdam Power Station to obtain detailed subsurface resistivity distribution and the sounding data were interpreted quantitatively using multi-layered model. The results of the quantitative resistivity models were adopted practically to calculate grounding resistance values. Analytical asymptotic equations and CDEGS program were used in grounding resistance calculation and the results were compared and reviewed in the study.

  • For lightning currents, a grounding system shows the transient grounding impedance characteristics. A grounding system for protection against lightning should be evaluated by the transient grounding impedance, not it's ground resistance. The transient grounding impedance varies with the shape of ground electrode and earth characteristics as well as the waveform of lightning surge current. For the analysis and practical use of transient grounding impedance, the characteristics of transient grounding impedance should be analyzed theoretically and this paper suggests the theoretical analysis for the transient grounding impedance of counterpoise by using the distributed parameter circuit model. EMTP and Matlab are used to simulate the distributed parameter circuit model of counterpoise and the adequacy of the distributed parameter model of counterpoise is examined by comparing the simulated results with the measured results.

  • This paper deals with ground potential rise of structure grounding electrode when a test current flows through grounding electrode. In order to analyze the potential gradient of ground surface on structure grounding electrode, the reduced scale model has been used. The structures were designed through reducing real buildings and fabricated with four types on a scale of one-one hundred sixty. The supporter was made to put up with weight of structure and could move into vertical, horizontal, rotary direction. When a test current flowed through structure grounding electrodes, ground potential rise was the lowest value at electric cage type(type B). According to resistivity and absorption percentage in concrete attached to structure, the potential distribution of ground surface appeared differently.

  • Purpose of the grounding system design are establish a safe environment for personnel as well as the general public in the vicinity of the power system equipment, and establish a low resistance connection to earth such that protective devices detect and isolate faults quickly and potential rise of the grounding system does not exceed a value which could damage electrical equipment. This paper deals with the grounding system design for the electric facilities. In this paper, emphasize the necessity of the computer programs for the grounding system designs. Especially, earth soil models for the grounding system design are must used two-layered soil model.

  • Electronic devices are very weak against lightning surges injected from grounding systems and can be damaged. The malfunction and damage of electronic circuits bring about several disadvantages such as low operation performances, a lot of economical losses, and etc. In order to obtain the effective protection measure of electronic devices from overvoltages and lightning surges, the analysis of the transient grounding impedances is very important. The aim of this work is to evaluate the behaviors of transient grounding impedances under impulse currents and to investigate the effect of grounding lead wire. Z-t, Z-i and V-i curves of transient grounding impedance under impulse current waveforms have been measured and analyzed.

  • This paper presents the results of a investigation, a development of the measuring system for grounding properties in live-line. The importance of the grounding system and it's property has been increased with the development, enlarge in capacity, of electrical industry. Moreover, with the rapid growth of communication and precision industry, now, we should consider the grounding properties to ensure the stable and/or safe operation. But the conventional measuring system is not proper to measure the grounding properties of the system, voltage applied. So, in this investigation, we proposed a new method for live-line measurement and develope the system. And through the field test we could confirm the superior performance of th developed system.

  • Presently the Korean grounding system uses TN system, multi-grounding method with TT independent grounding method. Nevertheless TN system can't exist with TT system in the technological terms. If they coexist, it causes ground-fault circuit not to operate, and brings about different electrical potential rise by customer system. It brings about serious problems for safety. This paper aims for improving method of grounding system based on the technical analysis on instances in foreign countries and Korea. Almost standards and construction manner were apt to be internationalized after WTO/TBT agreement was concluded. The internal grounding systems should meet the international criteria and reliability for safety, and be provided with technologically impeccable standards.

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of high frequency ground impedance measuring system for assessment of grounding system for Lightning protection. The ground impedance measuring system has been designed and fabricated which makes it possible to assess the ground impedance by frequency ranges from 100 Hz to 1 MHz. The effective grounding systems having a very low impedance to electromagnetic disturbance such as lightning surges and noises in microelectronics and high-technology branches are strongly required. In order to analyze the dynamic characteristic of grounding system impedances in lightning and surge protection grounding systems, it is highly desirable to assess the ground impedances as a measure of performance of grounding system in which lightning and switching surge currents with fast rise time and high frequency flow. The measuring system is based on the variable frequency power supply and consists of signal circuit part, main control part, data acquisition and processing unit, and voltage and current probe system. The ground impedance measuring system can be used to assess grounding system during occurrence of lightning.
