Time Estimation of Forming and Extinguishing Arc in the dc Contactor at Opening Contacts (접점 개방시 직류 접촉기의 아크 형성과 소호 시간 예측법)

  • This paper describes the phenomenon of the molten metal bridge theory of the arc discharge at opening contacts. And we analyze the magnetic force and drag force acting on the arc column in the DC magnetic contactor Arc cooling time by the force convection is calculated in the thermal dynamic equation using mean temperature method. Since arc gas lost conduction characteristics below a such temperature, it verify that the process of forming and extinguishing arc is able to analyze in terms of temperature characteristic by simulation and experiments of the 3 types arc extinction unit. It propose the practical simulation method to improve the electrical endurance of dc contactor.

  • Recently the pulsed power systems have been widely used in many fields such as E/P(Electrostatic Precipitator), DeNOx/DeSOx power systems, ozone generators and power sources of the laser beam. In this paper, we studied various electrical characteristics for arc suppression of line-to-line electrodes in air and removal of the metaloxide using our pulsed power system. To obtain high efficiency of the pulsed power system, we repeatedly experimented and tested their characteristics. by adjusting electrode length of the load. As a result, when the value of the electrode length and pulse repetition rate were changed at the load, the value of the arc voltage changed at the electrode load. In conclusion, we controlled arc voltage of the load by ,changing electrode length and pulse repetition rate. Also. we stydied removal area of the metaloxide using area discharge according to pulse repetition rate.

  • This paper describes the various wavelengths of electrical arc on overhead contact line for improvement of the current collection performance. The tests are performed with the arc measuring device and a welding machine to generate electrical are artificially. The experimental result shows the electrical are on overhead contact line and pantograph could be analyzed by artificial discharge.

  • The pulsed power system is widely used for many industries and environments. Generally, we call the "RUST", the reddish brown surface, that was made on iron surface or some other metals, when they are contacted by water and air the main substance of rust is oxide-ionization. In other words, the chemical symbol of rust on iron surface is iron oxide(III) hydrate Fe203.nH2O. In this study, we have designed and fabricated our system which has a compact pulse generator with switching MOSFET. Also we have studied the metal-oxide removing characteristics using in the atmospheric arc discharge. It has been investigated their removing characteristics by the change of charging voltage and pulse repetition rates. From this result, we can find out that the removal area Is increased from 3.80 to 8.04[$\textrm{cm}^2$], when pulse duration is increased from 100[pps] to 400[pps]. 400[pps].

  • An ageing characteristics of RTV coating materials by corona discharge have been studied. The recovery of a hydrophobicity of RTV coating materials with the thickness of $300{\mu}m$ was in identical with a bulk silicone materials. The hydrophobicity of RTV coating materials has been almost lost when its were discharged during 40 seconds by corona with 10kV, and recovered after about 45 hours. But the resistivity of RTV coating materials has not been recovered after 45 hours, even though after 80 hours the 95% of initiation resistivity value has been recovered. There was no critical compounds(such as Si and Al) changes on RTV surfaces by the corona discharge treatment until 100 seconds. In the test of arc erosion, it was seen that the coating sample with silicone rubber as a base material have more longer bum-out time than other samples with FRP or glass base.

  • Arc Fault Current is an electric discharge which is occurred in two opposite electrode. In this paper, arc current control algorithm is designed for the interruption of arc fault current which is occurred in the local electric network. This arc is one of the main causes of electric fire. Arc fault in electrical network has the characteristics of low current, high impedance and high frequency. Conventional arc current controller does not have the arc current interrupt function. Hence, Controller of arc current is designed for the interruption of arc fault current which has the modified arc characteristics.

  • We have investigated the synthesis and field emission properties of high-quality double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) using a catalytic chemical vapor deposition method and a hydrogen arc discharge method. The produced carbon materials using a catalytic CVD method indicated high-purity DWCNT bundles free of amorphous carbon covering on the surface. By adopting a hydrogen arc discharge method, we could obtained high-purity DWCNTs in large-scale. DWCNTs showed low turn-on voltage and higher emission stability compared with SWCNTs.

  • Carbon nanotube (CNT) and alumina ($Al_2O_3$) are synthesized into hybrid composites, and an advanced electrical discharge machining (EDM) system is developed for the machining of hard and conductive materials. CNT nanoparticles are mixed with $Al_2O_3$ powder and the $Al_2O_3$/CNT slurry is sintered by spark plasma. The hardness and the electrical conductivity of the $Al_2O_3$/CNT hybrid composite were investigated. The electrical discharge is controlled by a capacitive ballast circuit. The capacitive ballast circuit is applied to the tungsten carbide and the $Al_2O_3$/CNT hybrid composite. The voltage-current waveforms and scanning electron microscope (SEM) images were measured to analyze the characteristics of the boring process. The developed EDM process can manufacture the ceramic based hybrid composites, thereby expecting the variety of applications.

  • DC Arc is an electric discharge which is occurred in two oppolsite electrode when system operating with DC current appliance. In this paper, DC arc detection system is designed for the display of DC arc fault current which is occurred in the local electric network with DC Power. This DC arc is one of the main causes of electric fire of dc system. Arc fault in electrical network has the characteristics of low current, high impedance and low frequency. DC Arc current detection device is designed for the display of arc fault current which has the modified arc characteristics.

  • This paper compare the Townsend theory with the Molten metal bridge theory of Holm for the arc discharge at opening contacts. And we measured the arc voltage at opening contacts of the 3 types arc extinction unit used in DC magnetic contactor. So, we sure that the molten metal bridge contributes to form the arc. By the experiment of the 3 types arc extinction unit, we know that the magnetic force acting on the arc doesn't effect forming arc but contribut the arc extinction.
