In this paper, isolation strategies for improving broadband circuit performance and preventing noise arising from circuit component coupling are presented. Equivalent circuit parameters, including parasitic elements, are determined for capacitor and inductor structures. The effects of the relative position of the components with regard to a ground plane are considered in the equivalent circuits. Novel meshed ground structures are investigated to determine a configuration that improves the overall circuit performance.
A bidirectional DC-DC converter (BDC) is an indispensable electrical unit for the electric vehicles (EVs). High efficiency, high power density, isolation, light weight and reliability are all essential requirements for BDC. In this paper, a 3 kW BDC for the battery charger of EVs is proposed. The proposed converter consists of a half-bridge structure on the primary side and an isolation transformer and a synchronous rectifier structure on the secondary side. With this topology, minimum number of switching devices are required for bidirectional power flow between the two dc buses of EVs. The easy implementation of the synchronous rectification gives advantages in terms of efficiency, cost and flexibility. The proposed BDC achieves high efficiency when operating in both modes (step-up and step-down). A 3 kW prototype is implemented to verify theoretical analysis and the performance of the proposed converter.

In this paper, a double split-ring resonator(DSRR) is proposed to improve the isolation between Vivaldi antenna elements. The DSRR was designed using a unit cell simulation and applied to a $1{\times}2$ Vivaldi antenna array to confirm the improvement in the isolation. The unit cell size of the proposed DSRR is $5mm{\times}5mm{\times}1.52mm$ and six unit cells are used. To verify the performance of the proposed DSRR, $1{\times}2$ Vivaldi antenna arrays with and without the DSRR were fabricated and measured. The results show an isolation improvement of 20 dB in the Vivaldi antennas with the DSRR when compared to the Vivaldi antennas without the DSRR.

This paper proposes a dual-band balun which is based on Wilkinson power divider. By inserting $\lambda/2$ transmission line between port 2 and 3, this balun shows good matching at all ports and improved isolation. We use matamaterial(CRLH, D-CRLH) structure for a miniaturization of the circuit implementation and dual-band operation at TDMB frequency range(195MHz) and DVB-H frequency range(670MHz). The proposed balun is designed with return loss larger than -12.98dB at all port, and isolation larger than -12.4dB, the amplitude imbalance between output signals less than 0.08dB, also phase differences of outputs less than $2.8^{\circ}$.

In the near future, the voltage of power system for passenger vehicle will be changed to 42V from existing 14V./ Because of increasing power and voltage ratings used in the vehicle the motor drive system has high switching dv/dt and it generates electromagnetic interference (EMI) To solve these problems multi-level inverter system may be used The feature of multi-level inverter is the output voltage to be synthesized from several levels of voltage Because of this feature high switching dv/dt and EMI can be reduced in the multi-level inverter system But as the number of level is increased manufacturing cost is getting expensive and system size is getting large. Because of these disadvantages the application of multi-level inverter has been restricted only to high power drives. The method to reduce manufacturing cost and system size is to integrate circuit of multi-level inverter into a few chips But isolated power supply and signal isolation circuit using transformer or opto-coupler for drive circuit are obstacles to implement the integrated circuit (IC) In this paper a drive circuit of 4-level inverter suitable for integration to hybrid or one chip is proposed In the proposed drive circuit DC link voltage is used directly as the power source of each gate drive circuit NPN transistors and PNP transistors are used to isolate to transfer the control signals. So the proposed drive circuit needs no transformers and opto-couplers for electrical isolation of drive circuit and is constructed only using components to be implemented on a silicon wafer With th e proposed drive circuit 4- level inverter system will be possible to be implemented through integrated circuit technology Using the proposed drive circuit 4- level inverter system is constructed and the validity and characteristics of the proposed drive circuit are proved through the experiments.

Objective: To assess the effect of left atrial appendage (LAA) isolation on LAA emptying and left atrial (LA) function using cardiac MRI in patients who underwent successful catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 84 patients (mean age, 59 ± 10 years; 67 males) who underwent cardiac MRI after successful catheter ablation of AF. According to the electrical activity of LAA after catheter ablation, patients showed either LAA isolation or LAA normal activity. The LAA emptying phase (LAA-EP, in the systolic phase [SP] or diastolic phase), LAA emptying flux (LAA-EF, mL/s), and LA ejection fraction (LAEF, %) were evaluated by cardiac MRI. Results: Of the 84 patients, 61 (73%) and 23 (27%) patients showed LAA normal activity and LAA isolation, respectively. Incidence of LAA emptying in SP was significantly higher in LAA isolation (91% vs. 0%, p < 0.001) than in LAA normal activation. LAA-EF was significantly lower in LAA isolation (40.1 ± 16.2 mL/s vs. 80.2 ± 25.1 mL/s, p < 0.001) than in LAA normal activity. Furthermore, LAEF was significantly lower in LAA isolation (23.7% ± 11.2% vs. 31.1% ± 16.6%, p = 0.04) than in LAA normal activity. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the LAA-EP was independent from LAEF (p = 0.01). Conclusion: LAA emptying in SP may be a critical characteristic of LAA isolation, and it may adversely affect the LAEF after catheter ablation of AF.

In this paper, we develop a simple but very effective 4 by 4 Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antenna system for mobile phones consisting of different types of antennas to achieve low correlation property at the frequency ranges of 1710 to 2170 MHz, which covers wide LTE service bands, from band 1 to band 4. The proposed antenna system consists of two pair of antennas. Each pair consists of a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) and a coupling antenna which has the property of the loop. The use of two different antenna types of IFA and a coupling achieves high isolation. Proposed antenna system occupies relatively small area and positions at the four corners of a printed circuit board. The gap between the two antennas is 4 mm, in order to realize the good isolation performance. To evaluate the performance of our proposed antenna system, we perform various experiments. The proposed antenna shows a wide operating bandwidth greater than 460 MHz with isolation between the feeding ports higher than 17.5-dB. It also shows that the proposed antenna has low Envelop Correlation Coefficient (ECC) values smaller than 0.08 over the all desired frequency tuning ranges.
In this paper, microstrip antenna to enhance the isolation between transmitting port and receiving port under the proximity objects is proposed, and applied to the Doppler radar sensor working at 5.8GHz ISM band which detects vital signals of a human body. Two 3dB quadrature hybrids are placed around radiation patch to form a balanced structure between transmitting port and receiving port, such that it consistently provides enhanced Tx/Rx isolation and excellent return loss over nearby objects. It is theoretically analyzed and simulated to verify the validity of the proposed application. The fabricated antenna that is 2mm away from the human body, has more than 16 dB return loss and at least 30dB isolation over ISM frequency band of 5.8GHz.
The modularized subunit of an electronic power transformer (EPT) is a series connection of two H-bridge voltage-source converters and a DC-DC converter with a high-frequency isolation transformer (HFIT). On the basis of cascading and paralleling the modularized subunits, EPT can be used in high-voltage and large-current applications in the power system. This paper discusses the steady state analysis of the modularized subunit of EPT. Theoretical analysis considers the influences of the two H-bridge voltage-source converters on the two sides of the DC-DC converter. We deduce the formulas of the theoretical calculation on the internal electrical characteristics of EPT (e.g., the voltages of the DC-bus capacitor and the primary side peak current of the HFIT). This paper provides guidance on the design and selection of EPT key elements (e.g., the DC-bus capacitors and HFIT). Experimental results are obtained from a single subunit of a laboratory model rated at 962 V, 15 kVA. All calculations, simulations, and experiments confirm the theoretical analysis of the subunit of EPT.
Although cerebellar Purkinje cells display spontaneous electrical activity in vivo and in slice experiments, the mechanism of the spontaneous activity generation has not been clearly understood. The aim of this study was to investigate whether cerebellar Purkinje cells of postnatal rats generate spontaneous electrical activity without synaptic inputs. Dissociated cerebellar Purkinje cells were used for reducing synaptic inputs in the present study. Cerebellar Purkinje cells with dendrites were dissociated from postnatal rats using enzymatic treatment followed by mechanical trituration. Spontaneous electrical activities were recorded from dissociated cells without any stimulus using whole-cell patch clamp configuration. Two types, spontaneously firing or quiescent, of dissociated Purkinje cells were observed in postnatal rats. Both types of cells were identified as Purkinje cells using immunocytochemical staining technique with anti-calbindin after recording. Spontaneously active cells displayed two patterns of firing, repetitive and burst firings. Two thirds of dissociated Purkinje cells displayed repetitive firing and the rest of them did burst firing under same recording condition. Repetitive firing activities were maintained even after further isolation using either physical or pharmacological techniques. Neither high magnessium solution nor excitatory synaptic blockers, AP-5 and DNQX, block the spontaneous activity. These results demonstrate that spontaneous electrical activity of isolated cerebellar Purkinje cells in postnatal rats is generated by intrinsic membrane properties rather than synaptic inputs.
