  • This paper shows adaptive control using RHPC(Receding Horizon Predictive Control) with equality constraint which applied to Electric Furnace. The control strategy includes monotonic weighting (improving transient response) and pre-filtering (enhancing robustness), which is effective on real process. We can observe the performance of RHPC and confirm the practical aspect of RHPC with unmodelled dynamics through the experiment of Electric Furnace. Finally, this paper verifies the feasibility of RHPC to real process.

  • The EMP slip rate was compared with the general concrete using the electric arc furnace slag as an aggregate. Experimental results show that the shielding rate of concrete specimens using electric arc furnace slag increases. It is considered that the shielding rate is increased due to the high Fe content in the components of the electric arc furnace slag aggregate.

  • Electric arc furnace steelmaking dust has various physicochemical properties as volatile components generated in the melting process of steel scraps in an electric arc furnace, which is captured in oxide form as fine powder by reacting with oxygen in the air. In order to efficiently recycle these electric arc furnace dust, a kinetic basic experiment and a pilot production test were carried out in parallel. As a result, it was found that the electric arc furnace dust contain a large amount of Cl and alkali components, thus it was expected that the compounds have a great adverse effect on the actual operation for the recycling. It was confirmed that the volatilization behavior was progressing actively at $1100^{\circ}C$ and the electric arc furnace dust was melted at $1250^{\circ}C$. These results are the same as a result of pilot test for the formation behavior of zinc oxide and reduced iron. These results should be useful as basic data for designing the recycling plant of the electric arc furnace dust and establishing the operating conditions.

  • This is a basic experimental research tried to use electric furnace slag as a fine aggregate for concrete. Chemical component and physical properties of electric furnace slag were studied, and expansion mechanism and aging method for stabalization of electric furnace slag were discussed. Concrete properties electric furnace slag as a fine aggregate were also studied in this paper.

  • The use of electric arc furnace has been increasing as the steel consumption is increasing and the operation technique of electric arc furnace are developing. But as the use of electric arc furnace is increased, the furnace have produced the adverse effects of power quality: voltage and current harmonics, voltage and current imbalances, low power factor, and voltage flicker. One of the power quality problems, the harmonic have the characteristics of the time-varying and non-linear. This paper analyzed the harmonics for the various operation conditions of electric arc furnace. The power system model with electric arc furnace have been made, and the harmonic's effects on the power system has been analyzed according to the various operating conditions, first melting, second melting, so on. Also, the filter reducing the harmonic components have been designed and its effects on the power system have been examined.

Study on the Multi-Zone Furnace Analysis Method for Power Plant Boiler (발전용 보일러에 대한 다중영역분할 화로해석 기법의 활용성 연구)

  • In this study, a multi-zone furnace analysis method that couples a 1D energy and mass balance calculation with a 3D radiative heat transfer calculation is tested in order to verify its reliability. The calculated results for a domestic 500 MW capacity coal-fired boiler furnace were compared with the design data of the boiler manufacturer and CFD analysis, and a good agreement was achieved. Although this calculation method is less sophisticated than the CFD furnace analysis, it has an advantage in terms of calculation time while being able to provide the furnace behavior according to the fuel characteristics and operational variable changes. Therefore, it is expected to be useful for boiler operation diagnosis and daily fuel/operation planning.

Recovery of manganese compounds from electric arc furnace dust by Aluminothermy Process (테르밋 반응을 이용한 페로망간 전기로 분진의 재활용에 관한 연구)

  • The properties of dust collected from electric arc furnace of ferro manganese production units was investigated, and also the metallic manganese was recovered from the dust by aluminothermy process. The ferromanganese dust collected from electric arc furnace contained about 15% of manganese oxide ($Mn_3O_4$) and 9% of carbon as the contaminant, and have a 5um of 50% median diameter and irregular particle shape. The carbon contaminant in the dust could be reduced until about 0.1~0.5% level by roasting in the air at a temperature of 600~900C for 60minutes. The recovery of manganese could not be carried out using only ferromanganese dust from electric arc furnace by aluminothermy process, but the ferromanganese which contained manganese of about 92% and iron of about 5% could be obtained from the mixture of ferromanganese dusts from electric arc furnace and converter. The best mixing condition of dust fixed at electric arc furnace dust / converter dust ratio of 1:9 and 2:8, and the mixing rato of 3:7 or more could not separated the metal and slag from the reactant after aluminothermy reaction.

Experimental Study on the Bond Capacity of RC Beams Using Electric Arc Furnace Oxidizing Slag Aggregates (콘크리트용 전기로 산화 슬래그 골재를 사용한 RC 보의 부착 성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • An amount of electric arc furnace slag, by-products generated in iron manufacture, is being increased. Therefore, it is required to recycle the electric arc furnace slag. Currently, it is possible to use the electric arc furnace slag as the aggregates of the concrete through the insurance of volume stability but not in the past because of the expansibility of f-CaO and f-MgO. In this study, simple beam tests via Ichinose method were performed to estimate the bond properties of reinforced concrete (RC) beams using the electric arc furnace slag. The results of the test showed that the showed that specimens using the electric arc furnace oxidizing slag aggregates have similar or more bond capacity relative to the specimen of natural aggregates. Especially, bond capacity of the specimens using the slag aggregates was almost one and a half times higher than a specimen using natural aggregates.

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF AN ARC PLASMA IN A DC ELECTRIC FURNACE

  • In order to analyze the heat transfer phenomena in the plasma flames, a mathematical model describing heat and fluid How in an electric arc has been developed and used to predict heat transfer from the arc to the steel bath in a DC Electric Arc Furnace. The arc model takes the separate contributions to the heat transfer from each involved mechanism into account, i.e. radiation, convection and energy transported by electrons. The finite volume method and a SIMPLE algorithm are used for solving the governing MHD equations, i.e., conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy together with the equations describing a standard $k-\varepsilon$ model for turbulence. The model predicts heat transfer for different currents and arc lengths. Finally these calculation results can be used as a useful insight into plasma phenomena of the industrial-scale electric arc furnace. from these results, it can be concluded that higher arc current and longer arc length give high heat transfer.

  • Arc-furnace facilities consume 9,895,165(MWh) which is about 69.6 Percent of electronic furnace power consumption. and interior of a country demand power have inclosed annual. but becaused of the problem of cost, power plant location, and environment have faced difficulty to electric power supply. In this paper, Examining Load cutting of Arc-furnace that is dominating high weight of industry electric power use. and it is expected to solve easily electric power supply and demand problem by highest Priority load cutting examination of Arc-furnace when electric power supply and demand problem happens to area electric power system when is urgent.
