Recently, electric propulsion systems are used for unmanned surface vehicle, fish finder boat, etc. Some of these propulsion systems can be constructed of two electric motors and propellers for advanced impellent force. In this case, the speed difference generated between two propellers, namely, the synchronous error has a bad influence on the energy efficiency and course error. In this study, a synchronous control system is designed to restrain synchronous error caused by disturbance and mismatched dynamic characteristics. The control system is composed of the reference model, pre-filters, speed controllers, and synchronous controllers. The reference model is used for calculating the decoupled synchronous error and control input for each propulsion system. The pre-filters and speed controllers are designed in order that the propulsion system may follow the reference signal without overshoot and input saturation. And the synchronous controllers are designed from the viewpoint of stable and quick synchronization through root locus mothed approach. Finally, the simulation results show that the designed control system is effective for the disturbance.

The study is conducted on the subject of optimization of components sizing for series hybrid electric propulsion systems. The components sizing of series type hybrid system is very important because each component of series type is larger than the corresponding component of the parallel type or series-parallel type. If the components sizing is greater or less than what is required to this system, the performance of the system is getting worse. The methodology for the sizing of a driving motor is introduced based on the foundation of determined system configuration and performance target. And the sizing of an engine/generator and a battery is achieved based on simulation results using Dynamic Programming. It is possible to find the optimal sizing of these components by comparing fuel efficiency of hybrid electric propulsion system for 8 driving cycles.
Because the environmental regulations for ships are getting tighter, green ships employing eco-friendly technology have recently received a large amount of attention. Among them, various studies for electric propulsion ships have been carried out, particularly in the United States, European Union, and Japan. On the other hand, research related to electric propulsion ships in Korea is in a very nascent stage. In this paper, an estimation process based on the rough requirements of ship-owners for the operating performance of electric propulsion ships is proposed. In addition, the estimation process is applied to a small fishing boat for verification of the process. These results are expected to be used as design guidelines in the early stage of the design process for electric propulsion ships.

Development of Moon Explorer-1 (orbiter) is supposed to be commenced in 2017 and launched in 2020. In case of Moon Explorer-2 (lander), it would be slated to start in 2021 and launch in 2025. In this paper conceptual feasibility studies are conducted for the propulsion system applicable to a Moon Explorer. In the first place the availability of monopropellant/bipropellant/electric propulsion system is examined with domestic as well as overseas precedents. Secondly ${\Delta}V$ is estimated by the mission analysis and the propellant budget is calculated accordingly. Subsequently feasibility of a chemical propulsion system for a Moon Explorer is evaluated.
The propulsion system of next generation electric vehicle is different from the structure and control methods compared with conventional induction motor vehicles by applying an interior permanent magnetic synchronous motor. Permanent magnet motor should be controlled by each individual motor, propulsion device have 1C1M structure by a single inverter to control a single motor.

An electric-pump cycle, which is a propellant supply system for driving pumps of a liquid rocket engine using an electric motor, has the advantages of simple system configuration and easy control of supply flow rate and pressure. This paper investigates and analyzes the overseas research trends of the electric-pump cycle. In addition, the research and development country, performing organization, application, engine thrust, pump pressure increase, motor power, and rotation speed are summarized. Among them, the design variables of the overseas research that applied the upper-stage propulsion system with the thrust range of 0.445~2.2 kN could be used in the study of a similar electric-pump cycle in Korea.

In this paper, development and performance characteristic of propulsion system(Converter/Inverter) using IPM(Intelligent Power Module) for 120km/h AC electric vehicle is proposed. The proposed propulsion system is comprised of IPM converter and inverter stack which uses natural air-cooling system, DC-Link, OVCRf unit and control unit. And also 2-Parallel operation of two PWM converter is adopted for increasing capacity of system and the VVVF inverter control is used a mixed control algorithm, where the vector control strategy at low speed region and slip-frequency control strategy at high speed region. The proposed propulsion system is verified by main line test results as well as combined test results.

In this paper, we present some results of technical surveys, power analyses, and weight estimation on electric propulsion systems for 1-ton class Personal Air Vehicles(PAV) applications. When hybrid electric propulsion is adopted, its power performance using fuel cells and batteries in inferior to that of internal combustion engines. However, hybrid electric propulsion systems may replace IC engines when energy density and power density reach 0.75 kW$^*$hr/kg and 2.5 kW/kg, respectively.

In Korea, five major ports have been designated as sulfur oxide emission control areas to reduce air pollutant emissions, in accordance with Article 10 of the "Special Act on Port Air Quality" and Article 32 of the "Ship Pollution Prevention Regulations". As regulations against vessel-originated air pollutants (such as PM, CO2, NOx, and SOx) have been strengthened, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries(MOF) enacted rules that newly built public ships should adopt eco-friendly propulsion systems. However, particularly in diesel-electric hybrid propulsion systems, the demand for precise control schemes continues to grow as the fuel saving rate significantly varies depending on the control strategy applied. The conventional Power Take In-Power Take Off(PTI - PTO) mode control adopts a rule-based strategy, but this strategy is applied only in the low-load range and PTI mode; thus, an additional method is required to determine the optimal fuel consumption point. The proposed control method is designed to optimize fuel consumption by applying the equivalent consumption minimization strategy(ECMS) to the PTI - PTO mode by considering the characteristics of the specific fuel oil consumption(SFOC) of the engine in a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system. To apply this method, a specific fishing vessel model operating on the Korean coast was selected to simulate the load operation environment of the ship. In this study, a 10.2% reduction was achieved in the MATLAB/SimDrive and SimElectric simulation by comparing the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of the ship to which the conventional rule-based strategy was applied and that to which the ECMS was applied.
This paper presents the trade-off study of conducting a survey of the weights for various kind of propulsion systems installed in the Smart Unmanned Aerial Vehicle TR-100, a tilt-rotor vehicle, which is developed by Korea Aerospace Research Institute, in order to predict the appropriate propulsion system for present and future Personal Air Vehicle, which has single mode and vertical take-off & landing. In order to perform the trade-off study, we set the requirements that the vehicle hovers for 1 hour with 1,000 kg maximum take off weights. In this study, the power systems are classified engine, which uses the fossil fuel - turboshaft engine, piston engine, diesel engine and rotary engine, and electric motor with fuelcell or Li-Ion battery. The results of trade-off study shows the power systems using fossil fuel are superior to using fuelcell or Li-Ion battery for weight of propulsion system. Also turboshaft engine is the best power system for the aspects of system weight, and the nexts are rotary engine, piston engine, diesel engine, electric motor with Li-Ion battery, and electric motor with fuelcell.
