  • There are some demand response program which is Direct Load Control and so on in Korea. These are used to manage lack of power stability or shift peak time for shading load. It is very important not only using stability power system but controling and scheduling power system on the whole. Interruptible loads are essential resources to solve lack of energy and limit of constructing generator On recently days, Demand Response Program's reliability is recognized as ancillary or reserve service in many country. This paper presents a necessity to apply demand resource to our ancillary program. For this reason, it is introduce overseas ancillary program using load resource.

  • This study examines the behaviour of single micropiles subjected to axial tension or compression load in collapsible loess under in-situ moisture content and saturated condition. Five tension loading tests and five compression loading tests on single micropiles were carried out at a typical loess site of the Loess Plateau in Northwest China. A series of laboratory tests, including grain size distribution, specific gravity, moisture content, Atterberg limits, density, granular components, shear strength, and collapse index, were carried out during the micropile loading tests to determine the values of soil parameters. The loess at the test site poses a severe collapse risk upon wetting. The tension or compression load-displacement curves of the micropiles in loess, under in-situ moisture content or saturated condition, can generally be simplified into three distinct regions: an initial linear, a curvilinear transition, and a final linear region, and the bearing capacity or failure load can be interpreted by the L1-L2 method as done in other studies. Micropiles in loess should be considered as frictional pile foundations though the tip resistances are about 10%-15% of the applied loads. Both the tension and compression capacities increase linearly with the ratio of the pile length to the shaft diameter, L/d. For micropiles in loess under in-situ moisture content, the interpreted failure loads or capacities under tension are 66%-87% of those under compression. However, the prewetting of the loess can lead to the reductions of 50% in the tensile bearing capacity and 70% in the compressive bearing capacity.

  • With the implementation of electric power industry reform, the utilities are looking for effective ways to improve the economic efficiency. One area in particular, the equipment maintenance, is being scrutinized for reducing costs while keeping a reasonable level of the reliability in the overall system. Here the conventional RCM requires the tradeoff between the upfront maintenance costs and the potential costs of losing loads. In this paper we describe the issues related to applying so-called the "Reliability-centered Maintenance" (RCM) method in managing electric power distribution equipment. The RCM method is especially useful as it explicitly incorporates the cost-tradeoff of interest, i.e. the upfront maintenance costs and the potential interruption costs, in determining which equipment to be maintained and how often. In comparison, the "Time-based Maintenance" (TBM) method, the traditional method widely used, only takes the lifetime of equipment into consideration. In this paper, the modified Markov model for maintenance is developed. First, the existing Markov model for maintenance is explained and analyzed about transformer and circuit breaker, so on. Second, developed model is introduced and described. This model has two different points compared with existing model: TVFR and nonlinear customer interruption cost (CIC). That is, normal stage at the middle of bathtub curve has not CFR but the gradual increasing failure rate and the unit cost of CIC is increasing as the interruption time is increasing. The results of case studies represent the optimal maintenance interval to maintain the equipment with minimum costs. A numerical example is presented for illustration purposes.

  • Electric Vehicles(EVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles(PHEVs) which have the grid connection capability, represent an important power system issue of charging demands. Analyzing impacts EVs charging demands of the power system such as increased peak demands, developed by means of modeling a stochastic distribution of charging and a demand dispatch calculation. Optimization processes proposed to determine optimal demand distribution portions so that charging costs and demand can possibly be managed. In order to solve the problems due to increasing charging demand at the peak time, alternative electricity rate such as Time-of-Use(TOU) rate has been in effect since last year. The TOU rate would in practice change the tendencies of charging time at the peak time. Nevertheless, since it focus only minimizing costs of charging from owners of the EVs, loads would be concentrated at times which have a lowest charging rate and would form a new peak load. The purpose of this paper is that to suggest a scenario of load leveling for a power system operator side. In case study results, the vehicles as regular load with time constraints, battery charging patterns and changed daily demand in the charging areas are investigated and optimization results are analyzed regarding cost and operation aspects by determining optimal demand distribution portions.

  • This paper presents a simple AC-DC power conditioner for a squirell-cage induction generator(IG) operating under variable shaft speeds. The necessary reactive power for the IG system is supplied by means of a capacitor bank and a voltage-source PWM converter. Using a capacitor bank to transfer the reactive power to the IG under the rated speed and no-load conditions starts the IG operation and reduces the PWM power converter size. A simple control compensating for changes in the electrical loads as well as the variation in speed was developed to regulate the voltages of the IG system by controlling the rotor flux through its reactive and active currents control implementation. This proposed power conditioning scheme can be used efficiently as a wind power generation system where the output voltage of the IG is maintained constant voltage despite the variable frequency and the DC bus voltage of the PWM converter can be used for either DC applications such as battery charging or AC power applications with 60/50 Hz by connecting a stand alone inverter. The experimental and simulated operating performance results of a 5 kW IG scheme at various speeds and leads are presented.

  • Direct calculation algorithm for the elements of A matrix in multimachine power systems with constant impedance loads has been suggested. Generator's rotor parameters need not be determined from the manufacturer's data. We can identify the elements of A matrix into two categories: One is related to only generator parameters, and the other is related to generator parameters, initial values, and $Z_{Bus}$ matrix.

  • Using EMTP model which describes bipolar HVDC system, switching level simulation results are presented in this paper. Voltage synchronization at point of common coupling, gate pulse generation and current control loops are represented in TACS module. The system consists of 100 km submarine cable rated 300 MW and 12 pulse rectifier and inverter stations which are connected to equivalent three-phase sources and loads through the 154 kV AC lines, respectively. In convertor stations, harmonic filters and capacitor banks are equipped to cancel out the harmonics generated by converters and to supply the required reactive power.

  • This paper introduce an algorithm for service restoration in electric power distribution systems. Power utility performs service restoration in order to restore out-of-service areas at fault. Developing effective service restoration program is a cost-effective approach to improve service reliability and to enhance customer satisfaction. The main objective in service restoration program is to restore as much load as possible by transferring de-energized loads via network reconfigurations to other supporting distribution feeders without violating operating and engineering constrains.

  • In this study, for the capacity estimation of emergency electric generators built in apartment complex using NEGA C 201 method, it was proposed application methods of simultaneously starting groups and demand factors. Also, it was suggested that capacities of the electric generator might be calculated for two kinds of electric facilities; one is loads for the convenience of tenants when main electric supply cuts off, and the other is loads for fire. For 7 apartment complex of large-size (about 1, 500 households), medium- size (about 1, 000 households) and small - size (about 500 households), electric generator capacities were calculated and electric power were measured. Through the comparison between calculated values and measured values, it could be proved the suitability of these application methods. In addition, the calculated electric generator capacities were appeared to fit into engin capacities by NEGA C 201 method as well as those by conventional method.

  • An electrical vehicle (EV) is a huge issue in the automotive industry. The EV have many electrical units: electric motors, batteries, converters, ets. The DC power distribution system (PDS) is essential for the EV. The DC PDS offers many advantages. However, multiple loads in the DC PDS may affect the severe instability on the DC bus voltage. Therefore, a voltage bus conditioner (VBC) may use the DC PDS. The VBC is used to mitigate the voltage transient on the bus. In this paper, sliding mode controller (SMC) is designed for the VBC of DC PDS in the EV. The simulation results by PISM simulation package are presented for validating the proposed control technique.
