  • This paper proposes a new dynamic PCA algorithm to recognize types of electric poles, which is necessary for a mobile robot moving along the neutral line for inspecting high-voltage facilities. Since the mobile robot needs to pass over the electric poles and grasp the neutral wire again for the next region inspection, the detection of the electric pole type is a critical factor for the successful passing-over the electric pole. The CCD camera installed on the mobile robot captures the image of the electric pole while it is approaching to the electric pole. Applying the dynamic PCA algorithm to the CCD image, the electric pole type has been classified to provide the stable grasping operation for the mobile robot. The new dynamic PCA algorithm replaces the reference image in real time to improve the robustness of the PCA algorithm, adjusts the brightness to get the clear images, and applies the Laplacian edge detection algorithm to increase the recognition rate of electric pole type. Through the real experiments, the effectiveness of this proposed dynamic PCA algorithm method using Laplacian edge detecting method has been demonstrated, which improves the recognition rate about 20% comparing to the conventional PCA algorithm.

  • A method of double-pole construction is developing to strengthen the mechanical intensity of the electric poles. Therefore the mechanical properties of the double-pole were researched in this paper. First, considering field special quality electric poles were established. In the next tensile force was applied and stress distribution and fatigue load were examined. When a base of the pole is concrete, mechanical intensity of the double-pole increased about 1.7 times compared a single pole.

  • The elimination of a pole sensor is desirable due to the low-cost requirement, the compactness, and the applied drives. This paper proposes the algorithm for the initial pole-position estimation of a surface permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PM-LSM), which is carried out under the closed loop control without a pole sensor and is insensitive to the motor parameters. This algorithm is based on the principle that the initial pole position (IPP) is estimated by the trigonometric function of the two reference currents. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is confirmed by testing a surface PM-LSM with large disturbance, which result shows that IPP is well estimated within a satisfied moving-distance and a shorter estimation taken-time even if large disturbance such as cogging and friction is existed.

  • Many electric poles in the softground have been collapsed due to external load. In this study, 10 types of tests were performed with variation of location, numbers and depths of anchor blocks as well as depth of poles to find stresses acting on concrete electric poles. The stresses of concrete poles are relaxed at 600~700[kg] of tensile load, and stresses are concentrated at top of pole, and spread to lower part of pole. In the concrete pole collapse test, tensile load at failure was approximately 1,400[kg], which is twice of design load. As passive zone in the soil increases, the stresses acting on concrete pole are concentrated at lower part of pole based on moment arm earth pressure distribution.

  • This paper deals with design consideration and validation of a new pole-slot combination for permanent magnet vernier machine (PMVM) with consequent pole (CP) rotor especially for extremely low speed servo applications. A 136pole-24slot PMVM with CP rotor is introduced and analyzed by 2D and 3D finite element analysis (FEA) and discussion on experimental validation is also included.

  • If the three phases are not balanced, the current in neutral line is not zero. Then, the induced voltage can be generated In communication line. The KEPCO's rule about unbalanced current in single electric pole is a twenty percent of phase current. But the unbalanced current in double electric pole can't decide the rule because there are many different views. This paper develops the calculation and analysis technique of neutral current in single electric pole and double electric pole using equivalent circuit analysis, vector analysis and EMTP simulation.

  • As electric shock accident take place frequently, electrical safety is extremely important to prevent them. This paper describes the characteristics of electric shock. In order to examine it, an experimental apparatus including a model of a human body is fabricated and the magnitude of the voltage held by the model is measured under several conditions as follows;(1) the model is not contacted to an electric pole and a step voltage does not exist. (2) the model is not contacted to an electric pole and a step voltage exists. (3) the model is contacted to an electric pole and a step voltage does not exist (4) the model is contacted to an electric pole and a step voltage exists. As a result of the experiment it is found that the voltage held by the model depends on the step voltage as well as the voltages applied to the electric pole.
