A study on the fault diagnosis in the power system using Neural Network (신경회로망을 이용한 전력계통의 고장진단에 관한 연구)

  • When a fault is occurred in Power System, relay system detect overcurrent or voltage drop and trip the circuit breaker. Then, an operator in the control room diagnoses the fault and start the recovery of the system after analyzing the alarm information of relays or circuit breakers. The alarm informations have different patterns for each fault of the electric equipments on lines in power systems. In this paper, Back propagation algorithm is applied to train for many kinds of the fault in the power system. The simulation results show the possibility of the neural network application for the fault diagnosis in the case of errorous operation as well as normal operation of relays or circuit breakers.

  • Arc Fault is an electric discharge which is occurred in two opposite electrode. In this paper, AFCI(arc fault circuit interrupter) is designed for the interruption of arc fault current which is occurred in the local electric network. This arc is one of the main causes of electric fire. Arc fault in electrical network has the characteristics of low current, high impedance and high frequency. Conventional interrupter does not have the arc current interrupt function. Hence, Arc fault circuit interrupter controller is designed for the interruption of arc fault current which has the modified arc characteristics.

  • This paper deals with the fault detection problem in uncertain linear multivariable systems and its application. A robust fault detection method presented by Kim et a. (1998) for MIMO (Multi Input/Multi Output) systems has been adopted and applied to the twin rotor MIMO experimental setup using industrial DSP. The system identification problem is formulated for the twin rotor MIMO system and its parameters are estimated using experimental data. Based on the estimated parameters, some fault detection simulations are performed using the robust fault detection method, which shows that the preformance is satisfied.

A study on operating properties of superconducting fault current limiter in the line-to-line fault (선간 단락사고에 대한 초전도 한류기의 동작특성에 대한 연구)

  • We investigated the current limiting characteristics of resistive and inductive SFCLs with $100{\Omega}$ of quench impedance for a line-to-line fault in the 154 kV transmission system. The fault simulation at the phase angles $0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ showed that the resistive SFCL limited the fault current less than 15 kA without any DC component after one half cycle from the instant of the fault. On the other hand, the inductive SFCL suppressed the current below 13 kA, but with $2{\sim}3\;kA$ of DC component which decreased to zero in 6 cycles. We concluded that the inductive SFCL had higher performance in current limiting but the resistive SFCL was better from the view point of DC components.

On the other hand, the inductive SFCL suppresses the current below 14 kA, but with 5 kA of DC component which decreases to zero in 5 cycles.   • For fault diagnosis of machines and equipments, knowledge-based method has been used widely but has some limitations for complex systems. These can be covered by model-based method. As one kind of model-based method, Qualitative modeling diagnosis method is developed in this research. The developed method uses output signal only. In this method quantization of the output signal mattes automata which can characterize the flow of the signal pattern to normal and fault respectively. As an example of the qualitative diagnosis method, an electric tool which has faults at gear and bearing were examined in this research. The result shows that the developed method can diagnose the fault clearly for the two fault cases.

Electric Power Characteristics of a SFCL based on Turn-ratio of 3-Phase Transformer (3상 변압기의 권수비에 따른 초전도 한류기의 전력특성)

  • At present, the demand for electric power increases, the electric power system is complicated. The size of the line-to-ground fault and the line-to-line fault occurred with complication of electric power system continue to increase, therefore several issues are raised. To address these issues effectively, the superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has been proposed, this study is ongoing. In this paper, we applied the SFCL in three-phase transformer and comparative analysis of the electric power burden to the SFCL. The superconductor is combined to the third winding of transformers in connection structure. In case of a third line-to-line fault, we did comparative analysis of the electric power burden to the SFCL based on the turn ratio of transformer third winding. In this case, we could confirm as the third turn ratio increased, electric power impressed to the superconducting element increased.
