  • A method of double-pole construction is developing to strengthen the mechanical intensity of the electric poles. Therefore the mechanical properties of the double-pole were researched in this paper. First, considering field special quality electric poles were established. In the next tensile force was applied and stress distribution and fatigue load were examined. When a base of the pole is concrete, mechanical intensity of the double-pole increased about 1.7 times compared a single pole. In the case of general soil base, the concrete base should be needed to expect the reinforcement effect of the double-pole.

  • In electric agricultural machine a reduction gear is needed to convert the high speed rotation motion generated by DC motor to lower speed rotation motion used by the vehicle. The reduction gear consists of several spur gears. Spur gears are the most easily visualized gears that transmit motion between two parallel shafts and easy to produce. The modelling and simulation of spur gears in DC motor reduction gear is important to predict the actual motion behaviour. A pair of spur gear tooth in action is generally subjected to two types of cyclic stress: contact stress and bending stress. The stress may not attain their maximum values at the same point of contact fatigue. These types of failure can be minimized by analysis of the problem during the design stage and creating proper tooth surface profile with proper manufacturing methods. To improve its life expectation in this study modal and stress analysis of reduction gear is simulated using ANSYS workbench based on finite element method (FEM). The modal analysis was done to understand reduction gear deformation behaviour when vibration occurs. FEM static stress analysis is also simulated on reduction gear to simulate the gear teeth bending stress and contact stress behaviour.

  • Recently, additive manufacturing (AM) technology such as powder bed fusion (PBF) and directed energy deposition (DED) are actively attempted as consumers' needs for parts with complex shapes and expensive materials. In the present work, the effect of processing parameters on the mechanical properties of 316L stainless steel coupons fabricated by PBF and DED AM technology was investigated. Three major mechanical tests, including tension, impact, and fatigue, were performed on coupons extracted from the standard components at angles of 0, 45, 90 degrees for the build layers, and compared with those of investment casting and commercial wrought products. Austenitic 316L stainless steel additively manufactured have been well known to be generally stronger but highly vulnerable to impact and lack in elongation compared to casting and wrought materials. The process-induced pore density has been proved the most critical factor in determining the mechanical properties of AM-built metal parts. Therefore, it was strongly recommended to reduce those lack of fusion defects as much as possible by carefully control the energy density of the laser. For example, under the high energy density conditions, PBF-built parts showed 46% higher tensile strength but more than 75% lower impact strength than the wrought products. However, by optimizing the energy density of the laser of the metal AM system, it has been confirmed that it is possible to manufacture metal parts that can satisfy both strength and ductility, and thus it is expected to be actively applied in the field of electric power section soon.

  • The Sr$\_$0.8/Si$\_$2.4/Ta$_2$O$\_$9/(SBT) thin films are deposited on Pt-coated electrode(Pt/TiO$_2$/SiO$_2$/Si) using RF magnetron sputtering method. With increasing post-annealing temperature from 600[$^{\circ}C$] to 850[$^{\circ}C$], Bi-layered perovskite phase was crystallized above 650[$^{\circ}C$]. The maximum remanent polarization and the coercive electric field is 11.60[${\mu}$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$], 48[kV/cm] respectively. The leakage current density of SBT capacitor at post-annealing temperature of 750[$^{\circ}C$] is 1.01${\times}$10$\^$-8/ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 100[kV/cm]. The fatigue characteristics of SBT thin films did not change up to 10$\^$10/ switching cycles.

  • Monitoring system is an absolutely-required system for assessing a performance and fatigue load of the wind turbine in an on-shore wind energy experimental research complex. It was implemented for the purpose of monitoring the wind information measured from a meteorological tower at the monitoring house, and of utilizing the measured data(fatigue data and electric analyzing data of wind turbine)for the performance assessment, by using the LabVIEW program. Then, by adding the performance assessment-related data acquired from the wind turbine during the performance assessment and the data recorder for synchronizing the data of meteorological tower, the system(BusDAQ) was implemented. Because it transmitted the data by converting the output 'RS-232' of data logger which measures the wind condition into CAN protocol, the data error rate was minimized. Also, This paper is introduced to make the best use of the developed monitoring system and to explain about construct of the system and detailed data communication of its system.

  • Ferroelectric SrBi2Ta2O9(SBT) films were deposited on Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates at 50$0^{\circ}C$ using a sintered SBT target Bi and Ta targets by modified rf magnetron sputtering and then were annealed at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 10min in oxygen ambinet(760 torr) The composition of the SBT films could be easily controlled using the mul-ti-targets. The film composition of {{{{ {Sr }_{0.8 } {Bi }_{2.9 } {Ta}_{2.0 } {O }_{9 } }} was obtained with SBTd sputtering power of 100 W Bi of 25W and Ta of 10 W. A 250nm thick SBT films exhibited a dense and uniform microstructure and showed the remanent polarization(Pr) of 14.4 $\mu$C/cm2 and the coercive field({{{{ {E }_{c } }})of 60 kV/cm at applied voltage of 5 V. The SBT films show practically no polarization fatigue up to {{{{ {10 }_{10 } }} cycles under 5V bipolar pulse. The retention characteristics of the SBT films looked very promising and the leakage current density of the SBT films was about 1.23$\times${{{{ {10 }^{-7 } }}A/c{{{{ {m }^{2 } }} at 120kV/cm.

  • Yttrium(Y)-substituted bismuth titanate $(Bi_{4-x},Y_x)Ti_3O_{12}$ [x=0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1](BYT) thin films were deposited using an RF sputtering method on the $Pt/TiO_2/SiO_2/Si$ substrates. The structural properties and electrical properties of yttrium-substituted $(Bi_4-xYx)Ti_3O_{12}$ thin films were analyzed. The remanent polarization of $(Bi_4-xYx)Ti_3O_{12}$ films increased with increasing Y-content. The $(Bi_{3.25}Y_{0.75})Ti_3O_{12}$ films fabricated using a top Au electrode showed saturated polarization-electric field(P-E) switching curves with a remanent polarization(Pr) of $8{\mu}C/cm^2$ and coercive field (Ec) of 53 kV/cm at an applied voltage of 7 V. The $(Bi_{3.25}Y_{0.75})Ti_3O_{12}$ films exhibited fatigue-free behavior up to $4.5{\times}10^{11}$ read/write switching cycles at a frequency of 1MHz.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of muscle fatigue by neuromuscular electrical stimulation(NMES). Using Biodex System 3PRO(Biodex Medical Systems Inc, USA), experiment was conducted as to the normal group(I) composed of fifteen adults and the patient group(II) composed of fifteen patients with spastic hemiplegia. As to each group, maximal tolerated intensity(MTI) and maximal tolerated isometric contraction(MTIC) in electric currents yielded by low rate(20 pps) and high rate(100 pps) neuromuscular electrical stimulation and the aspects of decrease and restoration of the isometric contraction were examined, and their strength decrement index(SDI) and strength recovery index(SRI) were also calculated. 1. As for MTI in NMES, the MTI of the group II was higher than that of the group I in both low rate and high rate NMES. In comparison within group, MTI of group II was significantly higher in high rate NMES rather than in low rate NMES(p<0.05). 2. In comparison of MTIC between groups, the group I showed higher in both low rate and high rate NMES. In comparison within group, MTIC of group II was significantly higher in high rate NMES rather than in low rate NMES(p<0.01). 3. As for SDI, both groups showed highest SDI in high rate NMES, but no significant differences could be observed. 4. As for SRI, both groups showed significantly low SRI in low rate NMES(p<0.01, p<0.05), and comparison between groups showed no significant differences could be observed. These result lead us to the conclusion that muscle fatigue was influenced by frequency, high rate NMES was lower at SDI and higher at SRI on compare to low rate NMES, therefor, a further studies concerning electrical stimulation should consider differences each frequency in response to treatment.

  • In view of the frequent start-ups and load changes in the recent past, there is a need for fossil-fuel power plants to be more efficient and reliable for long-term operation. Under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions, severe creep and fatigue damages can occur in major plant facilities, particularly, turbines and boilers. For highly stable operation and better maintenance, various techniques that facilitate a systematic assessment of the service life of critical facilities have been developed. However, to date, in Korea, to evaluate the remaining life of major facilities of fossil power plant, qualitative or semiquantitative analyses are carried out without following any standard guidelines or procedure. In this study, a standard code for assessing the remaining life of major plant facilities is proposed. This code takes into account creep and fatigue damage, which are generally accepted as dominant causes of damage to facilities. KEPIC (Korea Electric Power Industry code) is scheduled to include this guideline in 2010.

  • This paper presents numerical and experimental results on the use of guided waves for structural health monitoring (SHM) of crack growth during a fatigue test in a thick steel plate used for civil engineering application. Numerical simulation, analytical modeling, and experimental tests are used to prove that piezoelectric wafer active sensor (PWAS) can perform active SHM using guided wave pitch-catch method and passive SHM using acoustic emission (AE). AE simulation was performed with the multi-physic FEM (MP-FEM) approach. The MP-FEM approach permits that the output variables to be expressed directly in electric terms while the two-ways electromechanical conversion is done internally in the MP-FEM formulation. The AE event was simulated as a pulse of defined duration and amplitude. The electrical signal measured at a PWAS receiver was simulated. Experimental tests were performed with PWAS transducers acting as passive receivers of AE signals. An AE source was simulated using 0.5-mm pencil lead breaks. The PWAS transducers were able to pick up AE signal with good strength. Subsequently, PWAS transducers and traditional AE transducer were applied to a 12.7-mm CT specimen subjected to accelerated fatigue testing. Active sensing in pitch catch mode on the CT specimen was applied between the PWAS transducers pairs. Damage indexes were calculated and correlated with actual crack growth. The paper finishes with conclusions and suggestions for further work.
