The interviews were performed, during the period from April 1st, to June 30th, 2011, to 396 elderlies in Daejeon city. As a results, the self-esteem was negatively correlated with state anxiety and interpersonal behavior trait, while it was positively correlated with locus of control. While state anxiety was positively correlated with interpersonal behavior trait, it was negatively correlated with locus of control, and interpersonal behavior trait was positively correlated with locus of control. Multiple stepwise analysis revealed that the factors of influence on self-esteem included IADL, spouse, mastication of food and amnesia. The factors of influence on State anxiety included mastication of food, IADL, spouse, subjective health status, disability of body, subjective sleep evaluation and educational level. Both groups had similar general characteristics, state of health, conduct on health and self-esteem, depression and cognitive abilities. Nineteen people who participated in the program at least 10 times out of 12, were chosen for the final analysis from the experimental group. Result: Mean(${\pm}SD$) differences between before and 1 week after the experiment for self-esteem, depression, and cognitive function were 5.84(${\pm}3.06$), -3.26(${\pm}1.76$), 1.47(${\pm}1.26$), respectively. Those between before the experiment and 4 weeks after the experiment was 5.68(${\pm}3.64$), -3.94(${\pm}2.32$), 1.63(${\pm}0.96$), respectively. Those for control group between before and after the experiment were -0.40(${\pm}1.27$), 0.00(${\pm}0.92$), 0.15(${\pm}0.93$), respectively. Those for control group between before and 4 weeks after the experiment were -0.45(${\pm}2.24$), 0.25(${\pm}1.68$), 0.15(${\pm}0.93$), respectively. All the differences between experiment and control group in mean differences between before and 1 week after experiment, between before and 4 weeks after experiment were statistically significant(p<0.05). • Objectives: This study was performed to build the predictive model of suicidal ideation of elderly men living alone. Methods: As for the subject, 251 subjects suitable for the selection criteria were selected among elderly men living alone above 65 years old in one region in Gyeongnam and three regions in Gyeongbuk. The data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 and Amos version 18.0. Results: The goodness-of-fit test result of hypothetical model were suitable for recommended level: ${\chi}^2/df=1.47$, RMR=.04, GFI=.92, AGFI=.90, CFI=.95, IFI=.95, RMSEA=.04. Self-esteem, individual coping, family cohesion, social support, social activity, and depression explained 55% of the model of suicidal ideation. The most influential direct factor of suicidal ideation was self-esteem, and social isolation was the most influential indirect influence on suicidal ideation. Conclusion: To sum up the above results, if we promote the researched variables of self-esteem, family cohesion, social activity, individual coping and social support in addition to developing and utilizing an efficient customized suicidal prevention nursing intervention program thereby reducing depression and social isolation, suicidal ideation of elderly men living alone would be prevented.

Data were collected from 198 elders aged 60+ with the cooperation of several social service center for the aged, senior centers, and senior citizen associations in Daejeon Metropolitan City. SPSS 22.0 software was used for descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed that (1) the research participant elderly's attitude toward own aging indicated fairly negative perception of their own aging; (2) self-esteem and economic status were statistically significant factors indicating the higher levels of self-esteem and economic status predicting the positive attitude of their own aging; (3) emotional support from family was statistically significant factor that predicted the positive attitude of their own aging; (4) the level of social participation was also statistically significantly associated with the positive attitude; (5) In the full model of all independent variables, the significance of emotional support from family and social participation disappeared, but self-esteem and economic status among personal resources remained statistically significant influential factors. Based on the findings, suggestions for social welfare policy and practice to improve community-residing elderly's positive attitude toward their own aging were discussed.

  • This study was conducted to examine the effects of depression, sleep and self-esteem on quality of life of elders living at home. A descriptive survey study was conducted based on a survey of 285 older people in person at five senior welfare centers in J city from May 20, 2016 to 9. The data were analyzed by at-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression using SPSS WIN 21.0. The mean scores were depression $7.27{\pm}3.80$, sleep $30.75{\pm}9.35$, self-esteem $36.40{\pm}5.30$ and quality of life $8.05{\pm}2.53$. Depression(r=0.491, p<0.001) and sleep(r=0.590 p<0.001) were positively correlated with quality of life and negatively correlated with self-esteem (r=-0.234, p<0.001). The results of the regression indicated that depression, sleep, and self-esteem explained 39.9% of the variance in quality of life. Overall, these results suggest that depression, sleep and self-esteem were associated with quality of life. Therefore it is necessary to develop strategies to reduce depression and sleep disorders for community dwelling elders to improve quality of life.
