Spandex is a elastomeric fiber in which the-fiber-forming substance is a long chain polymer consisting of at least 85% segmented polyurethane. In the polyurethanes there are the additional oxygen atoms in the main chains of the molecule. The effect of these oxygen atoms is to make the molecule somewhat more flexible. From a physical point of view, elasicity and recovery from stretch are the most important properties of polyurethane, so its use has now expanded into many kitting industry. In this paper, I wish to Test the effect of dyeing condition on the quality of polyurethane.
Soft lithography of polydimethyl-siloxane (PDMS), an elastomeric polymer, has enabled rapid and inexpensive fabrications of microfluidic devices for various biochemical and bioanalytical applications. However, fabrications of nanostructured PDMS components such as nanoslits remain extremely challenging because of deformation of PDMS material. One of the well-known issues is the unwanted contact between the surfaces of PDMS roof and bottom substrate, called ‘roof collapse’. Here we have developed a novel approach for the facile stabilization of PDMS nanoslits in the low height (130 nm)/width (100 $\mu$m) ratio without roof-collapse. Within 130 nm high nanoslits, we demonstrate the confinement of single DNA molecules. We believe that this approach will serve as a key to utilize PDMS as nanoslits for integrated microfluidic devices.

The sealing performance of an elastomeric O-ring seal using bi-materials has been analyzed for the contact stress behaviors that develop between the O-ring seal and the surfaces with which it comes into contact. The leakage of an O-ring seal will occur when the pressure differential across the seal just exceeds the initial (or static) peak contact stress. The contact stress behaviors that develop in compressed O-rings, in common case of restrained geometry(grooved), are investigated using the finite element method. The analysis includes material hyperelasticity and axisymmetry. The computed FEM results show that the contact stress behaviors are related to a ratio of length between NBR and FFKM and temperature of vaccum chamber.
Isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI), polytetramethylene glycol 1000 (PTMG1000), and N-methyl diethanol amine (MDEA) were applied to prepare cationic polyurethane water dispersions (PUD). Various neutralizers and chain extenders were introduced in order to investigate property changes, such as particle size, viscosity, $T_g$, tensile strength, and water swellability, depending on chemical structure of those chemicals. While the PUDs neutralized by acetic acid showed a typical elastomeric behavior, the others used with hydrochloride presented crystalline behavior. Among chain extenders isophorone diamine (IPDA) provided the best mechanical property. The particle size of the PUD neutralized with HCl was smaller than that with acetic acid. It is believed that this is attributed to the size difference of counter ions. The PUD chain-extended with hydrazine had the smallest particle size.
Elastomeric nanocomposites were prepared by employing zinc dimethacrylate into an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber, and their network structures, mechanical properties, and fracture morphologies were investigated according to the adding methods and contents of zinc dimethacrylate. The total crosslink density increased with increasing the zinc dimethacrylate level, due to increased ionic bonds. Both the tensile strength and tear strength increased with increasing zinc dimethacrylate loadings, and then decreased after reaching a maximum value. It was found that the tear strength and crack resistance were greatly affected by the mixing method of zinc dimethacrylate. The in-situ nanocomposites, where zinc dimethacrylate particles were formed by the reaction of zinc oxide and methacrylic acid, showed much improved tear strength and crack resistance compared to those of the nanocomposites based on the direct mixing of zinc dimetacrylate powders. This was because of the finer zinc dimethacrylate particles and improved dispersion of the in-situ nanocomposites.

Polymeric hydrogel particles were fabricated to demonstrate the scale-up possibilities with the Particle Replication In Non-wetting Templates (PRINT) process. A permanently etched, specifically designed master was made on a silicon wafer using conventional photolithography, then reactive ion etching. The master and substrate were used repeatedly to make a large number of identical elastomeric perfluoropolyethers (PFPE) replica molds. The PFPE replica molds were used to fabricate and harvest individual, monodisperse micron-sized particles using the PRINT process. A water-soluble polymer adhesive was used as a sacrificial layer for harvesting particles. Particles were composed of biodegradable poly (ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEG-diA), and aminoethylacrylate (AEM) and 2-acryloxyethyltrimethyl ammonium chloride (AETMAC) were added to them for improving the uptake of the cells. This study suggested PRINT used to produce the uniformed and shape specific biodegradable polymer is the effective technique for the non viral vector for the drug and the gene delivery.

The synthesis of well-defined poly(styrene-b-isobutylene-b-styrene) (SIBS) triblock copolymers was accomplished by cationic sequential block copolymerization of isobutylene (IB) with styrene (St) using 1,4-di(2-chloro-2-propyl) benzene (DCC) /$TiCl_4$/2,6-di-tert-butylpyridine(DtBP) as an initiating system in methyl chloride ($CH_3Cl$)/methylcyclohexane(MeChx) (50/50 v/v) solvent mixture at $-80^{\circ}C$. The triblock copolymers exhibited excellent thermoplastic and elastomeric characteristics. Tensile strengths and Shore hardness increased with increasing polystyrene (PS) content, while elongation at break decreased. The blood-compatibility of SIBS was assessed by SEM observation of the platelet adhesion, blood clotting time and haemolysis ratio. The haemolysis ratios were below 5% which met the medical materials standard. The platelet adhesion test further indicated that SIBS block copolymers had a good blood compatibility.
Self vulcanizable blend system for magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) has been studied by dispersing magneto responsible particle (MRP) on elastomeric matrix. Chloroprene rubber was modified with maleic anhydride (MAH) using heat and pressure which is called dynamic maleation process. The optimum graft ratio of MAH was found at 10 phr contents and reaction temperature of $100^{\circ}C$. This could be confirmed by FT-IR analysis. Epoxided natural rubber (ENR) was blended with modified CR-g-MAH for self vulcanization. The optimum amounts of ENR was 30 wt% in terms of scorch time and curing rate. MRE was manufactured by electromagnetic equipment and orientation of MRE was confirmed by SEM. Finally, it was found that the tensile strength of anisotropic-MRE was higher than that of isotropic-MRE and the hardness was reverse.
Crack growth characteristics of elastomeric materials are an important factor determining the strength and durability. In this study, the fatigue crack growth characteristic of filled EPDM compounds with different reinforcing fillers, such as silica and carbon black, was investigated using a newly designed tester. Frequency and test temperature had significant effects on the fatigue crack growth. The crack growth rate decreased with increasing frequency and the rate increased with increasing temperature. A power law relationship between the tearing energy and crack growth was observed for filled EPDM compounds. The crack growth rate reduced with increasing filler contents. Silica filled EPDM showed a better fatigue resistance than carbon black filled EPDM. The crack growth rate of silica filled EPDM decreased up to 30 phr and increased again at 50 phr. The formation of microductile type pits was observed on the fatigue-failure surface of unfilled EPDM, and relatively coarse surface with randomly distributed tear lines was observed on the failure surface of silica filled EPDM.
