  • Elaphognathia monodi (Gurjanova, 1936) and Elaphognathia kikuchii Nunomura, 1992 are newly reported based on the materials collected from Wando Island and Jeju Island in Korea, respectively. Elaphognathia monodi is distinguished by the following characteristics: the lateral margin of the cephalon is narrowing posteriorly; the frontal border is slightly concave and has a small mediofrontal process, a pair of superior frontolateral processes, and a pair of inferior frontolateral processes. Elaphognathia kikuchii can be distinguished by the following characteristic features: the lateral margin of the cephalon is narrowing anteriorly; the frontal border has a small mediofrontal process and twelve pairs of simple setae along with concavity.

  • Two marine isopods, Elaphognathia sugashimaensis (Nunomura, 1981) and Metacirolana shijikiensis Nunomura, 2008, have been reported for the first time in South Korea. Specimens of E. sugashimaensis and M. shijikiensis were collected using light traps from Yeongdeok-gun and Gageo-do Island in South Korea, respectively. The genera Elaphognathia Monod, 1926 and Metacirolana Kussakin, 1979 are new to South Korea. In this paper, we provide descriptions of diagnostic characteristics and illustrations of their morphologies. Additionally, the partial sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) of two species are provided as molecular characteristics.

  • Two isopods, Elaphognathia lucanoides Monod, 1926 and Limnoria saseboensis Menzies, 1957, are newly recorded in Korean fauna. Elaphognathia lucanoides can be distinguished from its congeners by the following characteristics combined: the cephalon is strongly excavated on the anterior margin; the paraocular ornamentation is forming a ridge distinctly; and the mandible is longer than cephalon. Limnoria saseboensis differs from the related species by the following features: pleonite 5 has two parallel longitudinal carinae; the pleotelson has one or two pairs of tubercles and two carinae; and the tubercles are present on the posterior margin of the pleotelson. In this paper, detailed descriptions and figures of these two species are provided.
