High-performance liquid chromatographic method was developed for the determination or LB 20304 (compound 1) in the plasma of rats and dogs. The analyte was deproteinized with 1 volume of methanol and 1/2 volume of 10% zinc sulfate, and the supernatant was injected onto a reversed-phase HPLC column. The mobile phase was a mixture of 24 parts of acetonitrile and 76 parts of 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid. The flow rate was 1 ml/min, and the effluent was monitored by fluorescence detector at an excitation wavelength of 337 nm and an emission wavelength of 460 nm. The retention time of compound 1 was 6.3 min. The assay of compound 1 was linear over the concentration range of 0.2-100.mu.g/ml in the plasma of rats and dogs. The lower limit of quantification was 0.2.mu.g/ml using 100.mu.l of plasma with a 97-99% accuracy and a 12-14% precision. In the 0.5, 5, and 50.mu.g/ml quality control samples, the intra- and inter-day accuracy were 88-95% and 88-97%, whereas intra- and interday precision were 0.5-6.6% and 0.2-9.3%, respectively, in the plasma of rats and dogs. The recoveries were 68-71% independent of concentration and species in the plasma. No interferences from endogenous substances were observed. Taken together, the above HPLC assay method by deproteinization and fluorescence detection was suitable for the determination of compound 1 in the preclinical pharmacokinetics.

The horizontal two-dimensional model which can predict the long-term water quality(WQ) change is setup for the environmental management. For the model calibration and verification, we measured the pollutants load at 22 streams and the WQ at 16 stations monthly and/or seasonally in Chinhae . Masan Bay. The pollutants release rate from the sediment was also measured to consider the regionally different sediment pollution level. From the model application results, it is shown that the WQ concentrations in most of the regions adjacent to land and river inflow are considerably high, but rapidly decrease along the seaward direction. In Masan Bay, the particulate inflow-pollutants were substantially deposited and gradually contaminated the bottom sediment on account of the excessive pollutants load and flow stagnancy. Eutrophication in the effluent discharge region was also being slowly progressed by the inefficiently treated wastewater containing amount of Nand P constituents.
Sublethal dose of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) would induce protection against cardiac ischemic/reperfusion (I/R) injury. This study examines the following areas: 1) the temporal induction of the cardio-protection produced by LPS; and 2) the relations between a degree of protection and the myocardial prostacyclin ($PGI_2$) production. Rats were administered LPS (2 mg/kg, i.v.), and hearts were removed 1, 4, 8, 14, 24, 48, 72,and 96 h later. Using Langendorff apparatus, haemodynamic differences during 25 min of global ischemia/30 min reperfusion were investigated. The concentration of $PGI_2$ in aliquots of the coronary effluent was determined by radioimmunoassay as its stable hydrolysis product $6-keto-PGF1_{\alpha}$ and lactate dehydrogenase release were measured as an indicative of cellular injury. LPS-induced cardiac protection against I/R injury appeared 4 h after LPS treatment and remained until 96 h after treatment. $PGI_2$ release increased 2-3 fold at the beginning of reperfusion compared to basal level except in hearts treated with LPS for 48 and 72 h. In hearts removed 48 and 72 h after LPS treatment, basal $PGI_2$ was increased. To determine the enzymatic step in relation to LPS-induced basal $PGI_2$ production, we examined prostaglandin H synthase (PGHS) protein expression, a rate limiting enzyme of prostaglandin production, by using Western blot analysis. LPS increased PGHS protein expression in hearts at 24, 48, 72, 96 h after LPS treatment. Induction of PGHS expression appeared in both isotypes of PGHS, a constitutive PGHS-1 and an inducible PGHS-2. To identify the correlationship between $PGI_2$ production and the cardioprotective effect against I/R injury, indomethacin was administered in vivo or in vitro. Indomethacin did not inhibit LPS-induced cardioprotection, which was not affected by the duration of LPS treatment. Taken together, our results suggest that $PGI_2$ might not be the major endogenous mediator of LPS-induced cardioprotection.
UASB reactor was operated for treating wastewater containing high sulfate to assess their performance, competition between sulfate-reducing bacteria(SRB) and methane-producing bacteria(MPB), and the change in the characteristics of microbial granules according to change of hydraulic retention time(HRT) in the reactor. The reactor was fed with a synthetic moderate strength wastes(glucose, 2000 mgCOD/l) containing high sulfate($2400mgSO_4{^{2-}}/l$). The organic loading rate(OLR) ranged from 1.5 to 3.0 gCOD/l.d as HRT maintained 15 to 30 hrs in the stage I. The COD removal efficiency was between 80 to 92%. During this period, methane yield rapidly decreased from 0.3 to 0.1 1 $CH_4$/gCODremoved. While sulfide concentration in the effluent increased from 80 to 200 mgS/l. This indicates that SRB becomes dominant over MPB at a relatively long HRT in the excess sulfate. When OLR of reactor maintained from 5 to 8 gCOD/l.d in the stage II, methane yield increased from 0.1 to 0.17 1 $CH_4$/gCODremoved regardless of decrease of COD removal efficiency. This indicates that SRB is more sensitive to the change of a short HRT than MPB. In the competition between SRB and MPB, about 30% of the removed COD was utilized by SRB at HRT of 30 hrs during the start-up period, while about 73% was used by SRB at HRT of 15hrs at the final step of second experimental stage. Whereas after shock exposure of OLR about 62% was utilized by SRB at HRT of 5hrs. It indicates that SRB is strongly suppressed by the wash-out of significant dispersed SRB since a large electron flow is distributed to the MPB. In addition, the granulation in the presence of high sulfate is unfavoured at a long HRT because of substrate transport limitations into MPB like Methanothrix spp. which is an important factor in the composition of the granules. Accordingly, granule sizes in the UASB reactor decreased with time due to weak network frame of granules by the decreased activity of MPB.
Feasibility of simultaneous removal of organic materials and nitrogen in the wastewater from fisheries processing plant was evaluated using entrapped mixed microbial cell (EMMC) process. The experiment was performed using activated sludge from municipal sewage treatment plant which was immobilized with gel matrix by cellulose triacetate. It was found the stable operation at the treatment system which is composed of anoxic and oxic tank, was possible when the organic and nitrogen loading rates were increased stepwise. The organic and nitrogen loading rates were conducted from 0.65 to $1.72kgCOD/m^3/d$ and from 0.119 to $0.317kg\;T-N/m^3/d$ with four steps, respectively. The maximum nitrogen loading rate which could satisfy the regulated effluent standard of nitrogen concentration, was $0.3kg\;T-N/m^3/d$. The removal efficiency of total nitrogen was decreased apparently as increasing nitrogen loading rates, whereas the removal efficiency of ammonium nitrogen was effective at the all tested nitrogen loading rates. Therefore, it was concluded that nitrification was efficient at the system. Nitrate was removed efficiently at the anoxic tank. whereas the nitrification efficiency at the oxic tank ranged 94.0% to 96.9% at the tested loading rates. The removal efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and those of total nitrogen at the entire system ranged from 94.2% to 96.6% and 73.4% to 83.4%, respectively.
A simple high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method was developed for the determination of tolperisone in human plasma. Tolperisone and internal standard (chlorphenesin) were isolated from 1 mL of plasma using 8 mL of dichlormethane. The organic phase was collected and evaporated under nitrogen gas. The residue was then reconstituted with 300 mL aliquot of mobile phase and a 100 mL aliquot was injected onto the $C_{18}$ reverse-phased column. The mobile phase, $45\%$ methanol containing $1\%$ glacial acetic acid and $0.05\%$ 1-hexanesulfonic acid was run at a flow rate of 1 mL/min. The column effluent was monitored using UV detector at 260 nm. The retention times for tolperisone and the internal standard were approximately 7.1 and 8.4 min, respectively. The standard curve was linear with minimal intra-day and inter-day variability. The quantification limit of tolperisone in human plasma was 10 ng/ mL. The proposed method has been applied to the determination of pharmacokinetic profile of tolperisone in Koreans. The T max of tolperisone in Koreans $(0.94{\pm}0.42\;h)$ was not significantly differ from that reported in Europeans (0.5-1 h), but the mean half-life in Koreans $(1.14{\pm}0.27\;h)$ was shorter than that in Europeans $(2.56{\pm}0.2\;h)$. The proposed HPLC method is simple, accurate, reproducible and suitable for pharmacokinetic study of tolperisone.

This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of methane fermentation from effluent of hydrogen fermentation reactor in anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) and anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (ASBR). Two reactors were operated at organic loading rate of $1.0kg\;COD/m^3{\cdot}d$ and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 20 day. Methane production rates of ABR and ASBR for start-up periods were 0.04 L/L/d and 0.19 L/L/d, respectively, whereas maximum methane production rates of ABR and ASBR were 0.25 L/L/d and 0.31 L/L/d, respectively. Removal rates of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in ABR and ASBR for start-up periods were 89% and 92%, respectively. After startup periods, removal rates of COD and volatile solids (VS) in ABR and ASBR were maintained over 90%. The specific methanogenic activity (SMA) increased as microorganism acclimated to the substrate.
The 37 indicators for performance evaluation of public sewage management agencies are divided into four major categories (agency manpower management ability, wastewater treatment plant operation and management, sludge and water reuse, service quality) in the first stage, and the necessity and score acquisition for the detailed indicators by each major category in the second stages. Priority was investigated through the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis technique for ease and relevance of company efforts. Also, based on the results of this analysis, integrated type weighting and relative importance were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the weight and relative importance of the first stage classification were in the order of wastewater treatment plant operation and maintenance, operation agency manpower management ability, sludge and water reuse, and service quality. As a result of analyzing the weights and priorities of the detailed performance indicators in the second stage, it was found that operator's career years, the percentage of certification holding rate in operators, compliance with the effluent water quality standards, training times for operators, and efforts to manage hazardous chemicals were important. Some of the indicators of operation agency performance evaluation may include indicators in which the performance of the company's efforts is underestimated or overestimated. In order to improve this, it is necessary to give weights in consideration of the necessity of the indicator, the relevance of the company's efforts, and the ease of obtaining scores.
In this paper, the removal characteristics of dissolved organic carbon (DOCs) by micro bubble ozonation process and $O_3/UV$ process were comparatively studied. In the point of DOC removing reaction coefficient, micro bubble ozonation system and $O_3/UV$ process had not significant difference, $0.0120sec^{-1}$ and $0.0141sec^{-1}$. Therefore micro bubble ozonation process is more suitable for tertiary treatment of sewage in the point of installation and maintenance cost-reducing. The optimum ozone injection rate was 2.0 g $O_3/g$ DOC and HRT was 3 min for the micro bubble ozonation process. The removal efficiency of DOC and SUVA in micro bubble ozonation system was 32.8% and 58.3% respective. Biological aerated filter (BAF) process was installed to remove soluble organic material increased by micro bubble ozonation system. And the effluent BOD of BAF was below 1.0 mg/L. In the view of cost-effectiveness, $O_3/BAF$ process was more profitable than $O_3/UV/BAF$ process for tertiary treatment of sewage. In order to nitrify ammonia in the BAF process completely, $NH_4{^+}-N$ concentration in the influent water of BAF should be designed considering low water temperature in the winter season.

Temperature phase anaerobic co-digestion process was conducted with the one to one mixture of food wastewater with livestock wastewater, and the presence and the dynamics of various pathogenic microorganisms was analyzed. The mixture contained various enteric and pathogenic bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. Enterobacteriaceae, Coliform bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella, Shigella, Listeria, and Yeast. Anaerobic digestion has become stabilized around 21 days after the reaction started, showing about 80% to 90% of remarkable reduction rates of microorganisms until this period in acidogenic reactor (AR) and methanogenic reactor (MR), respect ively. After stabilization, the average reduction rate of organic matter was recorded as around 60% in MR. Most microorganisms in the effluent were not detected at around the last period of the reaction, except Listeria and S. aureus, which showed the growth even at the last day of the reaction.
