  • This paper presents a deblocking method for video compression in which the blocking artifacts are effectively extracted and eliminated based on both spatial and frequency domain operations. Firstly, we use a probabilistic approach to analyze the performance of the conventional macroblock-level deblocking scheme. Then, based on the results of the analysis, an algorithm to reduce the computational complexity is introduced. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional video coding methods in terms of computation complexity while coding efficiency is maintained.

  • This paper addresses the modified Dynamic Relaxation algorithm, called mdDR by minimizing displacement error between two successive iterations. In the mdDR method, new relationships for fictitious mass and damping are presented. The results obtained from linear and nonlinear structural analysis, either by finite element or finite difference techniques; demonstrate the potential ability of the proposed scheme compared to the conventional DR algorithm. It is shown that the mdDR improves the convergence rate of Dynamic Relaxation method without any additional calculations, so that, the cost and computational time are decreased. Simplicity, high efficiency and automatic operations are the main merits of the proposed technique.

  • An image semantic segmentation model is proposed based on improved ENet network in order to achieve the low accuracy of image semantic segmentation in complex environment. Firstly, this paper performs pruning and convolution optimization operations on the ENet network. That is, the network structure is reasonably adjusted for better results in image segmentation by reducing the convolution operation in the decoder and proposing the bottleneck convolution structure. Squeeze-and-excitation (SE) module is then integrated into the optimized ENet network. Small-scale targets see improvement in segmentation accuracy via automatic learning of the importance of each feature channel. Finally, the experiment was verified on the public dataset. This method outperforms the existing comparison methods in mean pixel accuracy (MPA) and mean intersection over union (MIOU) values. And in a short running time, the accuracy of the segmentation and the efficiency of the operation are guaranteed.

  • Autonomous berthing is a crucial technology for autonomous ships, requiring optimal trajectory planning to prevent collisions and minimize time and control efforts. This paper presents a two-phase, two-point boundary value problem (TPBVP) strategy for creating an optimal berthing trajectory for a twin-propeller, twin-rudder ship with autonomous berthing capabilities. The process is divided into two phases: the approach and the terminal. Tunnel thruster use is limited during the approach but fully employed during the terminal phase. This strategy permits concurrent optimization of the total trajectory duration, individual phase trajectories, and phase transition time. The efficacy of the proposed method is validated through two simulations. The first explores a scenario with phase transition, and the second generates a trajectory relying solely on the approach phase. The results affirm our algorithm's effectiveness in deciding transition necessity, identifying optimal transition timing, and optimizing the trajectory accordingly. The proposed two-phase TPBVP approach holds significant implications for advancements in autonomous ship navigation, enhancing safety and efficiency in berthing operations.

  • Certificate-based cryptography is a new cryptographic primitive which eliminates the necessity of certificates in the traditional public key cryptography and simultaneously overcomes the inherent key escrow problem suffered in identity-based cryptography. However, to the best of our knowledge, all existed constructions of certificate-based encryption so far have to be based on the bilinear pairings. The pairing calculation is perceived to be expensive compared with normal operations such as modular exponentiations in finite fields. The costly pairing computation prevents it from wide application, especially for the computation limited wireless sensor networks. In order to improve efficiency, we propose a new certificate-based encryption scheme that does not depend on the pairing computation. Based on the decision Diffie-Hellman problem assumption, the scheme's security is proved to be against the chosen ciphertext attack in the random oracle. Performance comparisons show that our scheme outperforms the existing schemes.

  • The power split hybrid powertrain is considered to be one of the most prospective configuration for the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). Toyota Prius, representing this type of vehicle, showed outstanding performances in fuel efficiency, emission reduction and acceleration. The excellence is largely due to the fact that it utilizes almost all operation modes of HEV. Those modes include ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) driving, idle stop, fuel cut-off, power assist, active charging, regenerative braking and so forth. In this paper, a few of the mode operations were simulated using AVL Cruise. Also, control logics to operate the powertrain in each mode were developed. The states of powertrain components were displayed and analyzed. By controlling the three components (engine, motor and generator), it was possible to run the powertrain in several hybrid operation modes.

  • This paper proposes the interleaved buck converter using a soft switching auxiliary circuit. In this scheme, an auxiliary circuit is added to the conventional interleaved buck converter and used to achieve soft-switching conditions for both the main switch and freewheeling diode. In addition, the switch in the auxiliary circuit operates under soft-switching conditions. Also, according to the input to output conditions, the main switch achieved zero-current-transition(ZCT) or zero-current & zero-voltage-transition(ZCZVT) at turn on. Thus, the proposed interleaved buck converter provides a higher efficiency. The basic operations, in this paper, are discussed and design guidelines are presented. The usefulness of the proposed converter is verified on a 200kHz, 180W prototype converter.

  • Numerical integration is an efficient approach for nonlinear dynamic analysis. In this paper, general category of the implicit integration errors will be discussed. In order to decrease the errors, Dynamic Relaxation method with modified time step (MFT) will be used. This procedure leads to an alternative algorithm which is very general and can be utilized with any implicit integration scheme. For numerical verification of the proposed technique, some single and multi degrees of freedom nonlinear dynamic systems will be analyzed. Moreover, results are compared with both exact and other available solutions. Suitable accuracy, high efficiency, simplicity, vector operations and automatic procedures are the main merits of the new algorithm in solving nonlinear dynamic problems.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm to restore the de-energized loads in electric power distribution systems for restoration by utilizing object-based structure and heuristic rules without branch and feeder overloading. In order to cope with a complex network configuration and frequent breaker switching operations in distribution systems, the component of power system is described as objects and the information of system configuration is constructed by connecting objects each other. Such a strategy is developed mainly based on the object search algorithm to increase computation efficiency. As a result, the proposed system has been implemented to efficiently deal with large distribution systems by reducing computational burden remarkably compared with the conventional methods.
