The increased number of elderly in Korea presents great challenges for community nutrition programs. Strategies to enhance elderly nutrition are needed, as well as dietary advice that are reality-based and tailored to the need of the elderly. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the overall effectiveness of an elderly nutrition improvement program(ENIP), by assessing changes in nutrition knowledge, attitudes, and behavior after program completion. ENIP was conducted in Suwon for 4 months in 1998 at 5 centers for the elderly. The program provided individual nutrition counseling and brief biweekly group education sessions. To stimulate participation and motivation, the elderly in two centers were served free milk packs(200ml) three time a week during the program(milk+education group), and the elderly in 3 other centers were served yoghurt on the program day(education group). Altogether, 102 subjects finished the program(milk+education group 67 ; education group 35). Data about nutrition knowledge, dietary attitudes, diet records(24 hour recall) and dietary habit was collected before(baseline) and after the program(follow-up). The Drop-out rate for the milk+education group(2.9%) was significantly lower than that for the education group(30.0%)(p<.001). The Nutrition Knowledge fo females milk+education group increased significantly after the program, but no significant differences were observed in other groups. Over 60% of all the elderly showed positive responses to the healthy eating attitudes. Energy, protein, vitamin A, riboflavin, Calcium and Potassium intakes improved in the male milk+education group. The Vitamin C intake improved in the male education group. Energy and vitamin A intakes improved in the female milk+education group and energy, vitamin A, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, Ca nad P in the female education group. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to examine the effects of food intake changes on overall nutrient quality. For all elderly, the fish intake explained 12.6% of the variance, followed by candy intake and vegetable intake(model $R^2$=19.6%). Dietary habits such as meal time regularity and salty food reduction were markedly improved in both groups. Sixty-one percent of the milk+education subjects stated their participation was voluntary and active, while 51% of education subjects did. Sixty four percent of the subjects stated their interest on diet increased remarkably through program participation. Considering the results, it is conjectured that ENIP had a great impact on nutrient intake, dietary attitudes and habits. Milk supplement showed no direct effects on elderly nutrition improvement, but it encouraged the program by reducing drop-out rates and inducing voluntary participation. Therefore milk supplement could enhance the community nutrition education program. Moreover it is strongly suggested that the ENIP be expanded to other communities.
refractory organic compounds in aqueous solution are not readily removed by the existing conventional wastewater treatment process. In recent years, the sonolysis and electrochemical oxidation process had been shown to be promising for wastewater treatment due to the effectiveness and easiness in operation. This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of sonolytic and electrolytic decomposition as the basic data for development of the wastewater treatment process. Trichloroethylene(TCE) and 2,4- dichlorophenol(2,4-DCP) were used as the samples, and their destruction efficiency were measured with various operating parameters, such as initial solution concentration, initial solution pH, reaction temperature, sonic power and current density. Also, the decomposition mechanism conformed indirectly with the effect of NaHCO3 as a radical scavenger on the decomposition reaction. Thermal decompositon reaction is predominant for TCE but thermal and radical decompositon reactions were dominant for 2,4-DCP. Results showed that the destruction efficiencies of all samples were above 65% within 120 minutes by sonolysis and electrolysis at the same time, and were increased with increasing initial concentration, sonic power and current density. Destruction efficiency of TCE was high in the acidic solution, but 2,4-DCP showed high destruction efficiency in basic solution.
Natural Killer cells are considerd to play an important role in antitumor immune surveilance mechanism. In this study, 21 putative anticancer drugs selected from reference were assessed by evaluating the effect on rat Natural Killer cell activity (NKCA). All 21 herb drugs were extracted in boiling water, lyophilized, autoclaved, and then used for experiment. Culture supernatant of concanavalin-A (Con-A)-stimulated rat spleen cells as a source of lymphokine was also used as a control of comparison. Rat spleen cells were used as effector and NKCA was measured in 4hr $^{51}Cr-release$ assay against Yac-1 mouse lymphoma cell line. In order to determine the optimal conditions for NKCA augmentation, effector cells were treated with 3 different concentrations of each drug for 24, or 48 hrs before testing of NKCA, In optimal conditions determined from previous results, the effect of herb drugs on NKCA were assessed in 3 to 5experiments. NKCA was significantly enhanced by treatment with 4 herb drugs(Ponciri Fructus, Houttuyniae Herba, Aurantii Pericarpium, Nepetae Herba). Culture supernatant of Con-A-stimulated spleen cells also augmented the rat NKCA more significantly. The results show that 4 of the herb medicines supposed to display anticancer effect may have activity as a biological response modifier through augmentation of NKCA.
Powdery and downy mildews caused by Sphaerotheca fusca and Pseudoperonospora cubensis are the most common and serious diseases of cucumber worldwide. In spite of the introduction of highly effective systemic fungicides, control of these diseases remains elusive. Hence, this study aimed to develop an alternative method to chemicals in controlling the diseases by using different types of cooking oil. Egg yolk, which contains a natural emulsifier, lecithin, was selected as a surfactant to emulsify the oils. Among the different cooking oils used, soybean, canola (rape seed), safflower, sunflower, olive, and corn oils showed over 95% control values against powdery mildew of cucumber in a greenhouse test. In particular, 0.3% canola oil emulsified with 0.08% yolk (1 yolk and 60 ml canola in 20 l spray) was found to be the most effective. The treatment resulted in 98.9% and 96.3% control efficacies on powdery and downy mildews, respectively, of cucumber in the field. Canola oil exhibited direct and systemic effect, wherein powdery mildew of cucumber was suppressed only on treated leaves but not on non-treated leaves in a plant, while mycelia and conidia of the pathogen were severely distorted or destroyed by the treatment. The prospect of using the canola oil and yolk mixture as a natural fungicide is highly promising because of its effectiveness, availability, low cost, simple preparation, and safety to humans and the environment. The use of the canola oil and yolk mixture is expected to be an effective fungicide for use in organic farming and home gardening.

Recently, the biggest interest in education, education using ICT(Information and Communication Technology) is being emphasized excessively and only the practical side is being embossed on the research about it, so it is causing worry that it is inclined to technical use. In this study, we tried to prepare the strategy for efficient use of ICT in search of theoretical level on use of ICT as an alternative plan for these problems. First, we defined the concept of efficient use of ICT and fixed high thinking of human as basic authority cited for deduction of strategy and analyzed Integrated Thinking Model of Iowa State Dept. of Education. We categorized synthetic thinking for efficient use of ICT through these works. In addition, we classified ICT for efficient use into software area, hardware area, and use skill area, and observed each concepts and interrelationship. And we argued 'Decision Authority of Relation between Thinking Area and ICT Area' to examine relation between synthetic thinking category and each area of ICT, and we established concretization of that, 'Analysis Matrix for Deduction of ICE-EUS'. We tried to guarantee the propriety of deduction process and the clearness of deduction result through this works. Through this process we finally deduct the ICT-EUS(Efficient-Use Strategy of ICT) about learning resources, learning tools, tutee, searching, communication, production and presentation of ICT area. ICT-EUS is expected to provide possibility of being able to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of achievement of learning goals through cognitive analysis about learning resources, tools and use skills beyond simple use of ICT.

Recently, due to technical improvements of storage devices and networks, the amount of data increase rapidly. In addition, it is required to find the knowledge embedded in a data stream as fast as possible. Huge data in a data stream are created continuously and changed fast. Various algorithms for finding frequent itemsets in a data stream are actively proposed. Current researches do not offer appropriate method to find frequent itemsets in which flow of time is reflected but provide only frequent items using total aggregation values. In this paper we proposes a novel algorithm for finding the relative frequent itemsets according to the time in a data stream. We also propose the method to save frequent items and sub-frequent items in order to take limited memory into account and the method to update time variant frequent items. The performance of the proposed method is analyzed through a series of experiments. The proposed method can search both frequent itemsets and relative frequent itemsets only using the action patterns of the students at each time slot. Thus, our method can enhance the effectiveness of learning and make the best plan for individual learning.

This paper suggests an extended memory polynomial model that improves accuracy in modeling memory effects of RF power amplifiers(PAs), and verifies effectiveness of the suggested method. The extended memory polynomial model includes cross-terms that are products of input terms that have different delay values to improve the limited accuracy of basic memory polynomial model that includes the diagonal terms of Volterra kernels. The complexity of the memoryless model, memory polynomial model, and the suggested model are compared. The extended memory polynomial model is represented with a matrix equation, and the Volterra kernels are extracted using least square method. In addition, the structure of digital predistorter and digital signal processing(DSP) algorithm based on the suggested model and indirect learning method are proposed to implement a digital predistortion linearization. To verify the suggested model, the predicted output of the model is compared with the measured output for a 10W GaN HEMT RF PA and 30 W LDMOS RF PA using 2.3 GHz WiBro input signal, and adjacent-channel power ratio(ACPR) performance with the proposed digital predistortion is measured. The proposed model increases model accuracy for the PAs, and improves the linearization performance by reducing ACPR.
Physico-chemical properties of asphalt, aggregate, and asphalt-aggregate mixture that might influence stripping were summarized in Table 1, based on the fundamental theories concerning stripping. It was found that although physical properties of aggregate affected stripping, there was no strong correlation between the physical properties of aggregate, such as pore volume and surface area, and the stripping propensity of the aggregate. Chemical and electrochemical properties of aggregate surface in the presence of water were most important factors for stripping. All mineral aggregates tested in this study imparted distinctive pH values to the contacting water and possessed distinctive electrochemical properties as measured by zeta potential. It was found that aggregates which had relatively higher surface potential in water and/or which imparted relatively higher pH to the contacting water were more susceptible to stripping. The functionalities contained in antistripping additives tested were primary and secondary amines and those of organic nitrogen compounds. The functionalities were determined by examining their infrared spectra. Based on the interfacial energy concept, the contact angle of an asphalt drop on an aggregate surface immersed in water related to the stripping propensity. The contact angle and stripping propensity were markedly reduced by the presence of an antistripping additive. In general, all the additives tested improved stripping resistance to some extent, depending on their concentration in the asphalts. The optimum dosage of an additive varied with different asphalts, as well as different aggregates. All antistripping additives tested in this study lost their effectiveness and failed to function to some extent when maintained for hours in a hot asphalt.

Porous media for sewage treatment were developed through a pyrolysis process of food wastes with loess in the study. This work was carried out in two consecutive stages; in the first stage, new porous media were prepared through a high temperature pyrolysis process, and then the resultant media were applied to a simple lab-scale sewage treatment process in the second stage. To determine the optimum operating conditions of pyrolysis and mixing ratio of materials, physical properties such as specific surface area, porosity and compressive strength of final products were analyzed. The removal efficiencies of TOC and COD were measured to evaluate the effectiveness of resultant porous media. As a result of the experiment, we found that the best mixing ratio of food wastes to loess was 1 : 1 at $1,100^{\circ}C$. Average porosity of the developed media was 37.0%, in which pore size ranged from 1 to $20{\mu}m$, showing quite vigorous microbial activation. After immersing the media into a reactor for sewage treatment for eight days, removal efficiencies of TOC and COD were 87.3% and 85.0%, respectively.

Film restoration is to detect the location and extent of defected regions from a given movie film, and if present, to reconstruct the lost information of each region. It has gained increasing attention by many researchers, to support multimedia service of high quality. In general, an old film is degraded by dust, scratch, flick, and so on. Among these, the most frequent degradation is the scratch. So far techniques for the scratch restoration have been developed, but they have limited applicability when dealing with all kinds of scratches. To fully support the automatic scratch restoration, the system should be developed that can detect all kinds of scratches from a given frame of old films. This paper presents a neurual network (NN)-based texture classifier that automatically detect all kinds of scratches from frames in old films. To facilitate the detection of various scratch sizes, we use a pyramid of images generated from original frames by having the resolution at three levels. The image at each level is scanned by the NN-based classifier, which divides the input image into scratch regions and non-scratch regions. Then, to reduce the computational cost, the NN-based classifier is only applied to the edge pixels. To assess the validity of the proposed method, the experiments have been performed on old films and animations with all kinds of scratches, then the results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
