The existing effective path-length model of ITU-R has some drawbacks: The prediction error is quite large compared to domestic measurement data and it is an empirical model in which the physical characteristics of rain cells are not considered. In this paper, a theoretical model for effective path-length using the rain-cell concept was proposed and its validity was verified using the measurement data. To analyze the statistical characteristics of rain cell parameters, the weather-radar data(CAPPI) measured by Korea Meterological Administration were analyzed and the correction factor was properly introduced to fit the Chollian beacon measurement data of ETRI(Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute). To verify the proposed effective path-length model, it was compared with the Mugunghwa No. 5 beacon data measured in Chungnam National University with the support of ADD(Agency for Defense Development). It was confirmed that the prediction results of the proposed model are in good agreement with the measurement data.

A new graph problem is formulated to limit the maximum path length of a general directed graph when a minimal set of vertices together with their incident edges are removed from the graph. An optimal algorithm and a heuristic algorithm are proposed and the proposed heuristic algorithm is shown to be effective through experiments using a collection of graphs obtained from large sequential circuits. The heuristic algorithm is based on a feedback vertex set algorithm based on graph reduction.

Efficient path planning is essential for unmanned surface vehicle (USV) navigation. The A* algorithm is an effective algorithm for identifying a safe path with optimal distance cost. In this study, a modified version of the A* algorithm is applied for planning the path of a USV in a static and dynamic obstacle environment. The current study adopts the A* approach while maintaining a safe distance between the USV and obstacles. Two important parameters-path length and computational time-are considered at various start times. The results demonstrate that the modified approach is effective for obstacle avoidance by a USV that is compliant with the International Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea (COLREGs).
Cellular Genetic Algorithms(CGAs) are a subclass of Genetic Algorithms(GAs) in which each individuals are placed in a given geographical distribution. In general, CGAs# population space is a regular network that has relatively long characteristic path length and high clustering coefficient in the view of the Networks Theory. Long average path length makes the genetic interaction of remote nodes slow. If we have the population#s path length shorter with keeping the high clustering coefficient value, CGAs# population space will converge faster without loss of diversity. In this paper, we propose Smallest-Small-World Cellular Genetic Algorithms(SSWCGAs). In SSWCGAs, each individual lives in a population space that is highly clustered but having shorter characteristic path length, so that the SSWCGAs promote exploration of the search space with no loss of exploitation tendency that comes from being clustered. Some experiments along with four real variable functions and two GA-hard problems show that the SSWCGAs are more effective than SGAs and CGAs.
Excess pore pressures in low permeability soils may not dissipate quickly enough and decrease the effective stresses inside the soil, which in turn may cause a reduction of the shear strength at the interface between the soil and the reinforcement in MSE walls. For this condition the dissipation rate of pore pressures is most important and it varies depending on wall size, permeability of the backfill, and reinforcement length. In this paper, a series of numerical analysis has been performed to investigate the effect of those factors. The results show that for soils with a permeability lower than $10^{-3}cm/sec$, the consolidation time gradually increases. The increase in consolidation time indicates the decrease in effective stress thus it will result in decrease in pullout capacity of the reinforcement as verified by the numerical analyses. It is also observed that larger consolidation time is required for longer reinforcement length (longer drainage path).
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlations between functional movement screen (FMS) and ankle dysfunctions in subjects with chronic ankle instability (CAI). Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study of 20 participants with CAI. The ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM), Foot and Ankle Disability Index (FADI), center of pressure (COP) path length, and COP velocity for ankle dysfunction were measured in all the subjects. All the subjects underwent the FMS concerned with ankle functions consisted of deep squats, hurdle steps and in-line lunges. The Spearman rank-order correlation coefficient was used to determine relationship between the ankle ROM, FADI, COP and FMS. Results: The results of the deep squat and in-line lunge exercises revealed a significant correlation with the ankle dorsiflexion ROM, FADI, COP path length, and COP velocity. The hurdle step showed no correlation with the ankle dorsiflexion ROM and FADI but a significant relationship with the COP path length and COP velocity. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that relationship deep squat and in-line lunge and it is suggested that an assessment tool using ankle dorsiflexion ROM and ankle instability would be clinically effective.

This study investigated characteristics of buckling load and effective buckling length by member rigidity of dome-typed space frame which was sensitive to initial conditions. A critical point and a buckling load were computed by analyzing the eigenvalues and determinants of the tangential stiffness matrix. The hexagonal pyramid model and star dome were selected for the case study in order to examine the nodal buckling and member buckling in accordance with member rigidity. From the numerical results, an effective buckling length factor of adopted models was bigger than that of Euler buckling for the case of fixed boundary. These numerical models indicated that the influence of nodal buckling was greater than that of member buckling as member rigidity was higher. Besides, there was a tendency that the bifurcation appeared on the equilibrium path before limit point in the member buckling model.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the effect of emphasized initial contact gait training on balance and gait ability in hemiplegia patients. METHODS: Twenty-four hemiplegic patients were randomly allocated to an experimental group or control group. All participants received 30-min neurodevelopmental treatment. Furthermore, the experimental group received initial contact-emphasized auditory feedback gait training, whereas the control group received gait training without auditory feedback. The intervention was performed 3 times per week, 20 min per each time, for a total of 6 weeks. Balance was assessed using the center of pressure path length, center of pressure velocity, and limitation of stability path length, whereas gait ability was assessed using the 10-m walking test and functional gait assessment. RESULTS: In both groups, center of pressure path length and center of pressure velocity significantly decreased after training. Compared to the control group, the experimental group showed a 10% significant improvement (p<.05). In the limitation of stability path length of both sides, the experimental group showed a significant increase compared to that before intervention. Compared to the control group, the experimental group showed a 7% significant improvement in results of the 10-m walking test and functional gait assessment (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Emphasized Initial contact gait training is considered an effective treatment for improving gait ability and balance ability in stroke patients.

The method of enhancing visibility in optical fiber sensor was investigated by improving coherence length of light source. The optical feedback technique is used to enhance coherence length in fiber laser which generates laser in near infrared wavelength region and utilizes low loss characteristics of optical communication grade fiber. In this paper, the effect to coherence length by short and long optical feedback paths are investigated by using Mach-Zehnder interferometer technique. The effect to coherence length by changing optical feedback power and optical modulation are investigated. The spectral drift was calculated by measuring the degree of phase perturbation in unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer having loom path difference. The short optical feedback path was effective to reduce spectral drift to 450kHz/sec and the long optical feedback path in combination with short optical feedback path was found to further reduce spectral drift to 50kHz/sec.

The attenuation due to rain has been recognized as one of the major causes of unavailability of radio communication systems operating above about 10 GHz. To design radio links for telecommunications and to evaluate attenuation due to rainfall, it is important to have a good prediction model for rain attenuation such as a model for drop-size distribution of rainfall(DSD), a theoretical model for specific rain attenuation, and an empirical model fur effective path length through rain. In this paper, the extended generalized gamma distribution for drop-size distribution, based on the measurements in Chnugnam National University, is proposed as a new DSD model, and predicted specific attenuation characteristics using proposed DSD model and rain attenuation values in the 44 GHz satellite path using ITU-R effective path length model, are analysed. The predicted attenuation levels are also compared. It is found that an accurate prediction method for DSD is very important to reduce the prediction error in the local satellite path.
