  • The purpose of this study is to obtain implications for the improvement direction of astronomical education methods and development of educational materials or software. In connection with the 5th grade 1st semester elementary science 'Solar System and Stars' unit, elementary pre-service teachers were given a reorganization task to compare the relative distances from the sun to the planets, and then this was analyzed. Pre-service teachers are 11 male and 19 female students in the second year of the music education department at the elementary school teacher training university in B city. The implications of the study results are as follows. First, the 'distance comparison activity using a roll of tissue paper' is suitable for simply comparing the distances from the sun to the planet, but it has limitations in allowing students to experience the vastness of the solar system or inducing student participation-centered classes. Second, it is necessary to develop software materials for elementary school students that can simultaneously reflect the size of the planet and the distance to the planet that can be applied indoors, and also experience the vastness of the solar system, as well as a wide learning space. Third, textbook materials for students have an important influence on the class design of pre-service teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a board game design activity for environmental education and to investigate how it affects high school students' environmental knowledge, environmental literacy, and creative engineering problem solving propensity. Twenty-five freshman and sophomore students belonging to the environmental club participated in this study. The board game activity was designed as 10 class hours lessons based on the engineering design process. The main data source of this study was pre-post students' conceptual maps of the environmental topics (global warming or ecosystem destruction) to measure the background knowledge on the topic. In addition, the environmental literacy measurement questionnaire and the creative engineering problem solving propensity questionnaire were collected before and after the activity. The result shows that the number of environment-related words described by the students on the post-concept map increased compared to the pre-concept map. In addition, the environmental literacy score and the creative engineering problem-solving propensity score increased significantly after performing the board game design activity. The results show that environmental lessons using board game design activities can help student develop various competencies in a good way. As above, research that combines board games and secondary education must be activated, and a new educational method and systemic support for in-service teachers who want to apply it to science classroom is required.

  • This study was conducted as a study on the SW career education of students from underprivileged areas, which is a necessary condition for SW education to become a universal education or where research has not been conducted. Therefore, this study conducted a SW career selection model using structural equations for 2,231 students in grades 3 to 6 in 6 schools located in the marginalized areas of eup/myeon. As a result of the study, it was analyzed that the intrinsic SW learning motive of students from underprivileged areas did not affect their SW career choice, whereas the external SW learning motive was analyzed to affect their SW career choice. This is inferred that the intrinsic SW learning motive does not affect the SW career choice due to the lack of SW experience of students in underprivileged areas. The correlation between internal and external SW learning motivation was analyzed to be significant. In the future, as students from the underprivileged class have more SW education experiences, research should be conducted on how internal SW learning motives affect SW career choice and how external SW learning motives support internal SW learning motives.

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education in South Korea has rapidly shifted online. In addition, the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution has highlighted the need to introduce innovation teaching methods. To cope with these changes and demands, the learning management system used by domestic universities must therefore be improved. This study developed a learning management system for the application of team-based learning to improve and develop the learning management system of domestic universities. The major research findings are as follows. The analysis results showed that there is not sufficient function to apply new innovation teaching methods, such as team-based learning, in the current learning management system of domestic universities. Therefore, a learning management system capable of supporting team-based learning courses was developed in this study. The system consisted of 'pre-class learning,' 'team activities' and 'participation learning,' which were further classified into nine sub-items. In the future, a survey of system users is planned in order to further improve the system. It is believed that if the proposed learning management system were introduced to domestic universities, it would improve the educational environment and contribute to the spread and use of innovative teaching methods.

  • This study is a study on the applicability of the medical humanities curriculum through a narrative study on international treatment of foreign patients. Korea's medical system and standards are world-class, and it can be seen that the knowledge and skills for patient care are sufficient, which shows that the competence for patient care emphasized by Korean doctors is sufficient. In terms of social responsibility for doctors in Korea, the importance of volunteering is learned from medical school education, and through medical field experiences in various cultures, it can be seen that volunteering is important to lead to lifelong work as a doctor. In the field of professionalism, professionalism could be expressed as a doctor, and in all processes, the medical staff understood and empathized with the pain of the patient, and it was found that the sincerity was conveyed to the patient. Professionalism is an area that is being emphasized more recently, and it is necessary to provide educational opportunities for professionalism to doctors as well as medical school education. This international medical experience can be applied to the medical humanities curriculum of the medical school, and a harmonized and integrated medical humanities curriculum can be operated throughout the six-year curriculum.

  • This study aimed to suggest measures expand career-related elective subjects in the high schools through a case of establishing and utilizing a learning space for hands-on home economics classroom activities. Upon the trend reviews of elective subjects in the high school and literature reviews on the educational outcomes from home economics classrooms, a case of career-related elective subject by establishment of learning space related to home economics was proposed in two high schools in Seoul. The results are as follows: First, the trend in 2020 showed that selecting a home economics course as a career-related subject depends on school situations. The results of the survey at schools show that the utilization rate of hands-on learning space for home economics was high with high preference among students, but schools implicitly guided students to select courses that are related to preparation for university entrance. Second, reductions of class hours and decreased likelihood to offer courses in home economics in general high schools would influence the recruitment of teachers, which may ultimately result in a threat to the subject. However, through career-related activities, students may develop positive perception of the subject of home economics and consequently select the subject. Therefore, it is necessary to open and promote multiple elective courses related to home economics for the survival of subject of home economics.

  • The study explored how two elementary school teachers perceived computational thinking, reflected them into curriculum revision, and taught them in the classroom during longitudinal professional developed program (PDP) for nine months. Computational thinking is a new direction in educational policy-making including science education; therefore we planned to investigate participating teachers' perception of computational thinking to provide their fundamental understandings. Nine meetings, lasting about two hours each, were held with the participating teachers and they developed 11 lesson plans for one unit each, as they formed new understandings about computational thinking. Data were collected through PDP program while two teachers started perceiving computational thinking, revising their curriculum, and implementing it into their class for nine months. The results were as follows; first, elementary school teachers' perception of computational thinking was that the definition of scientific literacy as the purpose of science education was extended, i.e., it refers to scientific literacy to prepare students to be creative problem solvers. Second, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) lessons were divided into two stages; concept formation stage where scientific thinking is emphasized, and concept application, where computational thinking is emphasized. Thirdly, computational thinking is a cognitive thinking process, and ICT (informational and communications technology) is a functional tool. Fourth, computational thinking components appear repeatedly and may not be sequential. Finally, STEAM education can be improved by utilizing computational thinking. Based on this study, we imply that STEAM education can be activated by computational thinking when teachers are equipped with competencies of understanding and implementing computational thinking within the systematic PDPs, which is very essential for newly policies.

Through this, the improvement plan of writing education was discussed. As a result of researching and analyzing the perceptions of university students, college students perceived writing ability as important, and they wanted practical writing classes that received feedback and wrote actual writing rather than theoretical classes. In addition, it was found that they wanted to develop their ability to construct and develop the contents of the article. In order to make writing education a practical competency for college students, theoretical lectures are important, but it is necessary to give enough time and opportunity to write in practice, and to develop customized practical writing. Also, it is necessary to make writing class that students can participate through various teaching methods, and to make writing ability lead to practical competence even after graduation through the method of university graduation certification requirements. This study is meaningful in that it can seek the direction of university writing education through the recognition of college students related to writing.
