  • Research method was a case study as narrative method through in-depth interviews around 21 sufferers of elder abuse in rural area and the researcher interviewed them directly. Conclusively, the majority of sufferers of elder abuse were physically very low in the ADL(activities of daily living) and had been bereaved with no spouse. The relations of abused parents and the adult children were much disagreed and divided as unrecovered. Their economic reliance and physical reliance were much overlapped and the majority of them were low educational background and low income level. In case of the abused old people, they had severe low self respect and melancholy, so they considered severely suicide so much as invaluable as their existing value. In spite of over 80.5 years old average, the abuse action had continued for 6 months to 50 years long and the intensity of the abuse was more strengthened. The majority of abused old people refused mostly the entrance of social welfare facilities for elders and also they desired to live in present living area and their own houses.

  • Students' emotional attitude not only affects their achievement in a meaningful way but also is an important educational goal in its own right. This research investigated how students' interest in science varies among elementary, middle and high-school students based on a survey and reviews of previous research results. We analyzed students learning attitude in terms of interest in and enjoyment of science, instrumental motivation in science, science learning anxiety, and self-concept in science. Major findings are students showed more negative attitudes in intrinsic motivation, instrumental motivation, value perception of science, and confidence in science as they move in to a higher school level. According to students' explanation, science classes got bored in a higher grade because of difficult contents, lack of experiments and activities, and teachers' monotonous explanations. Based on the results, recommendations on how to improve students' attitudes towards science are suggested. First of all we need to secure more science instructional hours in the school curriculum than the 7th national curriculum to implement improved science teaching and learning methods.

  • This study considers the role of Mathematics as a language and the value of reading in the mathematics class. Linking mathematics instruction to literature has become popular in recent year for variety of reason. We want to illuminate the meaning of literature-based Mathematics. We suggest the viewpoint of how to appropriately select math-related literature. The focus of this study is to suggest how to use children's literature to effectively teach mathematics. Through attention to the mathematics in literature, we motivate students and provoke students' interest for mathematics. Children's literature, what is more, helps students connect mathematical ideas to their personal experience and realize that mathematics is a spontaneous and natural expression of human minds. Literature in mathematics class provides students advanced mathematical thinking for problem solving.

  • The basic direction of mathematical education for a 21st century is focused on helping student to understand mathematics and develop their problem solving abilities, mathematical dispositions and mathematical thinking. Elementary mathematics teachers should help students make sense of mathematics, confident of their ability, and make learning environment comfortable for students to participate in. The best way is to provide chances to play a game for students, considering educational value of game and new directions for mathematical education. Therefore I would like to develop an mathematical game to conform mathematical ideas, and apply it, as well as strengthen students' mathematical disposition such as confidence, flexibility, interest and curiosity to improve quality of mathematical education. If students are helped to be interested in mathematics through mathematical games, they regard mathematics as interesting and challengeable subject to let themselves think many ways.

  • The main purpose of this study is to estimate willingness to pay (WTP) by the general publics, assuming that they pay tax or charge for protecting marine living resources and environment through developing and supplying biodegradable fishing nets. This study employed a contingent valuation method (CVM) which is an econometric method. The survey was conducted by using both double-bounded dichotomous choice and open-ended survey. Tobit model was used for the analysis. The variables included concerns about marine environment and fishing net discarded, sex, age profile, number of family members, educational level and personal disposable income. Annual average WTP per family for the biodegradable fishing net development and supply was estimated at 5,294 won and national WTP amounted to some 84.2 billion won. This includes both of use and non-use value of biodegradable fishing nets.

  • Purpose: This study sought to develop a scale to evaluate patient-centered healthcare services at hospitals and verify its reliability and validity. Methods: We conducted a literature review and interviewed medical personnel and practitioners in medical institutions. We also conducted a content validation and preliminary survey of experts, including 40 preliminary items. We conducted the main survey among 240 medical institution workers to assess the validity and reliability of the preliminary measurement tool. Results: The validity and reliability of the scale were assessed by 29 items underlying six factors: ease of communication, continuity and extension of the hospital's role, stable environment, emotional support, respect for patients' values, and offer of information. Cronbach's α of the whole tool was .91, while the value of each factor ranged from .82 to .74, thereby verifying its reliability. Conclusion: The patient-centered healthcare services scale was identified as a tool appropriate for healthcare professionals. This tool will be useful in a diverse range of research on the development of educational programs for patient-centered healthcare services and the promotion of patient-centered causes.
