  • Even though measurement is an important strand of elementary mathematics education, there has been lack of research in this field. This study analyzed topics related to length and time in a series of mathematics textbooks aligned to 2007 or 2009 revised mathematics curriculum. The analysis was focused on three aspects: (a) overall instructional components of measurement, (b) instructional components specific to the topics of measurement, and (c) key competencies in mathematics. The results of this study showed that many topics dealing with length and time were represented with relation to real-life contexts or other subjects. The meanings of measurement terms and the necessity of calculation were well explained but other aspects still had room for improvement when it comes to the necessity of measurement units, appropriate choice of units, and use of students' common misconceptions. Another noticeable result was that problem solving, communication, and reasoning among key competencies in mathematics have been emphasized in the mathematics textbooks. Based on these results, this study provides textbook writers with implications on what to further consider in dealing with length and time.

  • In school mathematics, the definition and concept of a differentiation has been dealt with as a formula. Because of this reason, the learners' fundamental knowledge of the concept is insufficient, and furthermore the learners are familiar with solving routine, typical problems than doing non-routine, unfamiliar problems. Preceding studies have been more focused on dealing with the issues of learner's fallacy, textbook construction, teaching methodology rather than conducting the more concrete and efficient research through experiment-based lessons. Considering that most studies have been conducted in such a way so far, this study was to create a lesson plan including teaching resources to guide the understanding of differential coefficients and derivatives. Particularly, on the basis of the theory of Historical Genetic Process Principle, this study was to accomplish the its goal while utilizing a technological device such as GeoGebra. The experiment-based lessons were done and analyzed with 68 first graders in S high school located in G city, using Posttest Only Control Group Design. The methods of the examination consisted of 'learning comprehension' and 'learning satisfaction' using 'SPSS 21.0 Ver' to analyze students' post examination. Ultimately, this study was to suggest teaching methods to increase the understanding of the definition of differentials.

  • From the early stages of learning algebra, literal symbols are used to represent algebraic objects such as variables and parameters. The concept of parameters contains both indeterminacy and fixity resulting in confusion and errors in understanding. The purpose of this research is to compare the beginners of algebra and pre-service teachers who completed secondary mathematics education in terms of understanding this paradoxical nature of parameters. We recruited 35 middle school students in eight grade and 73 pre-service teachers enrolled in a undergraduate course at one university. Using them we conducted a survey on the perception of the nature of parameters asking if one considers parameters suggested in a problem as variables or constants. We analyzed the collected data using the mixed method of qualitative and quantitative approaches. From the analysis results, we identified several difficulties in understanding of parameters from both groups. Especially, our statistical analysis revealed that the proportions of subjects with limited understanding of the concept of parameters do not differ much in two groups. This suggests that learning algebra in secondary mathematics education does not improve the understanding of the nature of parameters significantly.

  • New Zealand had reformed their national curriculum with competence and are applying the revised curriculum. As the 2015 revised national curriculum is clothed with competency-based curriculum, New Zealand may have important implications for the study of the Korean revised curriculum. In this study, we examine characteristics of the education system and the national curriculum in New Zealand. In addition, we analyze the standards into the New Zealand national curriculum in terms of 'curriculum connectivity' that is one of important curriculum criteria for improving the quality of education. For this, we look an overview of the relation between the New Zealand curriculum and NCEA, which is the core of the student-centered education system in New Zealand, and analyze the correspondence between the New Zealand curriculum and the Korean curriculum. And we establish analysis framework of curriculum connectivity based on these comparison analysis contents, and analyze Korean mathematics standards with corresponding levels from among the New Zealand mathematics curriculum. According to the results of this study, the New Zealand curriculum includes the most of standards which Korean high school students who want to enter university of natural sciences of engineering need to require. In addition, the New Zealand curriculum highlights statistical research activities for developing problem-solving ability in real life. From perspective of curriculum connectivity, 'in-depth contents' adding on to repeating mathematical concepts or contents are included in the New Zealand curriculum.

  • The statistical education researchers advise instructors to educate informal statistical inference and they are paying close attention to the progress of the statistical inference in general. This study was conducted by analyzing the levels and the traits of each levels of the informal statistical inference of the middle and high school students for comparing the samples of data and estimating the graph of a population. Research has shown that five levels of the informal statistical inference were identified for comparing the samples of data: responses that are distracted or misled by an irrelevant aspect, responses that focus on frequencies of individual data points and hold a local view of the sample data sets, responses that the student's view of the data is transitioning from local to global, responses that hold a global view but do not clearly integrate multiple aspects of the distribution, and responses that integrate multiple aspects of the distribution. Another five levels of the informal statistical inference were identified for estimating the graph of a population: responses that are distracted or misled by an irrelevant aspect, responses that focus only on representativeness, responses that consider both representativeness and variability and focus on one particular aspect of the distribution, responses that focus on multiple aspects of distribution but do not clearly integrate them, and responses that integrate multiple aspects of the distribution.

  • Improving the design ability of idea developing and creative problem solving should be started from the primary school. Design education in the primary school should be not education for design but education by design. It helps students can naturally understand the basic concept of design and experience the process of activities. Therefore primary educational circle use the term of 'Design-related activities', or 'Design-Based Education'. It can be applied to variable themes of mathematics, science, music, society as well as Art. On the Basis of these literature review, the traditional design education as a part of the art education is analyzed in two aspects of its contents and behaviors. The contents in design education involve aesthetic·symbolic, useful·functional, and scientific·technological area. And, the basic design behaviors are classified with 'know', 'perceive', 'inquire', and so on. This concept becomes the analytic frame of the present condition of design education in Korean primary school. Through the analysis, it is found that the portion of scientific·technological area in contents and 'inquire' related behaviors are relatively very low. Also, the planning and teaching methods for leading children's opportunity of creative expression are found inadequate. This study proposes the potential capability and the integrative contents of design education in primary school.

  • This study assesses the association of nurses' hope, grateful disposition, and workplace spirituality with the goals of providing human resource management plans that lead to efficient and competitive nurse structure by building a nurse organizational culture based on analyzing the influences affecting organizational citizenship behavior. Participants were 147 nurses working in four general hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The survey data were analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple stepwise regression via SPSS WIN 18.0. Results showed that organizational citizenship behavior is positively associated with nurse's hope (${\gamma}=.22{\sim}.36$, p<.001), grateful disposition (${\gamma}=.38$, p<.001) and workplace spirituality (${\gamma}=.38{\sim}.54$, p<.001). The significant predictors of organizational citizenship behavior were workplace spirituality (${\beta}=.54$, p<.001), hope of turnover (${\beta}=.12$, p<.001), hope (${\beta}=.09$, p<.001) and grateful disposition (${\beta}=.08$, p<.001), which explained 41.6% of the variance in organizational citizenship behavior. This study systematizes a theory for workplace spirituality processing the early stage research in nurse structure. To improve organizational citizenship behavior among nurses, educational programs and supporting systems should be developed to increase nurses' hope, disposition of grateful disposition, and workplace spirituality.
