  • Recently there has been a high request for support for teachers' professional development and quality control to meet the demand of educational policy to introduce teacher evaluation, master teacher status, incentives for teacher competency, etc. It has been suggested that reeducation and support for professional development would be more effective to beginning teachers with a high developmental potential than to experienced teachers with routinized instruction. Since 2005 KICE-TLC has conducted research on the development of teacher supporting programs such as teaching consultation and pedagogical content knowledge(PCK) in school subjects. In line with the current education policy and previous research by KICE, this research has been conducted to meet the need for novice teacher induction by developing consulting program focused on PCK The goal of this research was to (1) explore the in light meaning of PCK in light of teaching consultation, (2) conduct a preliminary study on how to develop teaching consulting programs for secondary beginning teachers, (3) develop teaching consulting programs focused on pedagogical content knowledge(PCK), and (4) suggest implications for educational policy regarding pre-service and in-service teachers' continuing professional development and support.

  • The geometrical structures, atomic charges, and relative energies of tetracoordinated Pd complexes [PdCl3Z (Z = Cl-, Br-, OH?-, H2O, NH3, PH3), PdCl2Z2 (Z = Br-, OH?-, H2O, NH3, PH3), PdZ?2X (Z = Cl-, OH?-, H2O, NH3, PH3; X = oxalate, O2-?CCO2-), and PdZ2Y (Z = Cl?-, OH?-, H2O, NH3, PH3; Y = succinate, CO2-?CHCHCO2-?)] and the ligand exchange reactions of the Pd complexes were investigated using the ab initio second order Mller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) and Density Functional Theory (DFT) methods. The geometrical characteristics of the tetracoordinated Pd(II) complexes with mono- and bidentate ligands, the effects of the atomic charges for the charged and uncharged ligands, the (dz2-p ) interactions between the dz2-orbital of Pd(II) and the p -orbital of bidentates, and the relative stabilities between the isomers of PdCl2Z2 and PdZ2Y were investigated in detail. The potential energy surfaces for the ligand exchange reactions used for the conversions of {[PdCl2(NH3)2] + H2O} to {[PdCl(NH3)2(H2O)]+ + Cl?-?} and {[PdCl2(PH3)2] + H2O} to {[PdCl(PH3)2(H2O)]+ + Cl?-?]} were investigated. The geometrical structure variations, molecular orbital variations (HOMO and LUMO), and relative stabilities for the ligand exchange processes were also examined quantitatively.

  • As the importance of technology in education has increased, TPACK research has been actively conducted to promote the use of technology in class. However, due to the functional limitations of technology, the pre-service teacher had difficulty in using technology in class. Therefore, in this study, we have been studying the introduction of the programming language as a technology tool of TPACK. Using design-based research as a research method, we repeatedly developed an educational program, applied to pre-service teachers, and evaluated the effectiveness of the program. In the first study, pre-service teachers had difficulties in programming learning. To solve this problem, programming-based instruction and curriculum analysis were supplemented by educational programs. In the second study, pre-service teachers felt difficulty in using programming in teaching-learning, thus improving instruction design and reflection. The third study enhanced the programming development environment search to supplement programming learning and utilization.

  • Objectives. To compare narrative skills between fourth and fifth grades of Persian-speaking students with hearing impairments and typical hearing students of the same grade and also to evaluate the effects of group, sex, hearing age, and educational grade of the students on their spoken/written narrative performance. Methods. The subjects were 174 students aged 10-13 years, 54 of whom wore cochlear implants, 60 suffered from moderate to severe hearing losses and wore hearing aids, with the remaining 60 students being typical hearing in terms of the sense of hearing. The micro- and macrostructure components of spoken and written narrative were elicited from a pictorial story (The Playful Little Elephant) and then scored by raters. Results. Compared to the typical hearing, the students with hearing impairments had significantly lower scores in all of the microstructure components of narratives. However, the findings showed no significant difference among different groups in macrostructure components of narratives. It was also revealed that the students had equal performance in spoken and written narrative. Finally, factor analysis manifested that group, sex, hearing age, and educational level of children might alter the outcome measures in various interactions. Conclusion. Although cochlear implantation was more effective than hearing aid on spoken and written narrative skills, the Persian-speaking students with hearing impairments were seen to need additional trainings on microstructure components of spoken/written narrative.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the preference of plant environmental images for flower plant consumption. This study came up with a total of four treatments including one image without plants and three images with flower plants (three roses, rose gift, rose garden). We conducted a survey on 104 men and women through the Google (online) survey and analyzed the data. The preference was higher with statistical significance for environmental images with plants than the image without plants. The preference for environmental images of roses was highest in the order of rose gift > rose garden > three roses. As a result of the cross-tabulation analysis, it was found that there was a significant difference in the preference for environmental images of roses according to general characteristics such as educational background and residence type. In terms of educational background, 2-year college graduates showed higher preference for the three environmental images of roses with statistical significance compared to high school graduates, university graduates and masters or higher. As a result of determining the difference in preference according to residential types, residents of multiplex houses showed higher preference for the "rose garden" environment image than residents of detached houses (p < .05). As a result of examining stress and depression in everyday life, 48.1% (the highest) of the respondents answered that they were "under daily stress" and 48.1% (the highest) of the respondents claimed not to be "under much depression". This study investigated the difference in preference according to demographic characteristics and existence of plants, preference in environmental images using roses, correlation with daily stress and depression, and utility of publicity using photographic images of plants.
