An online survey was conducted among dental hygienists working at dental institutions and data of 172 individuals were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Descriptive statistics was performed for general characteristics. For factor analysis by general characteristics, t-test and ANOVA were performed. For differences between groups Scheffe verification was performed. A correlation analysis between factors was performed using Pearson's correlation analysis, and a factor analysis affecting the improvement of healthcare quality was performed using multiple linear regression analysis. Care for elderly patients was 52.33/75, management of systemic disease was 12.65/17, and infection management was 96.92/130. Improvement of medical quality (institutional effort) was 22.87/35, and improvement of medical quality (personal effort) was 22.72/35. The most common educational needs were "necessary". Analysis revealed a positive correlation between factors.. Factors affecting improvement of medical quality (personal effort) were age, final academic background, place of work, and the presence or absence of annual medical examinations. The findings of this study indicate that there is a significant correlation between factors. For the qualitative care of elderly patients, education programs related to elderly characteristics, systemic diseases, and infection management should be actively conducted by dental hygienists, and interest and research on geriatric dental hygiene is needed, centering on associations and educational institutions.

  • This study investigated the food and dietary educational content in primary, middle and high school textbooks in order to provide fundamental data for the development of educational programs on Korean traditional food culture. The research objects consisted of 51 kinds of textbooks (15 kinds of primary school textbooks, 29 kinds of middle school home economics textbooks and 7 kinds of high school home economics textbooks), and the contents related to food and dietary education were counted and analyzed. The content analysis was performed using two categories: application method and subject matter. Application method included texts, cases, visual aids (pictures, photos, illustrations, chart, etc.) and activities, whereas subject matter consisted of seven types (well balanced nutrition and health, understanding of food and nutrition, cooking principles, cooking lessons, traditional foods and culture, others). The results of the application method in primary school textbooks show that visual aids were the most common in all six grades. For the subject matter, 'understanding of food and nutrition' was most abundant in primary school textbooks while 'well balanced nutrition and health' accounted for a large part of the contents in middle school textbooks. However, the contents regarding traditional foods and culture were insufficient in primary and middle school textbooks. These results suggest that educational contents on traditional foods and culture should be added to primary and middle school textbooks and covered in various subjects. Furthermore, high school 'home economics' contents need to emphasize comprehensive food and dietary education and adjust to 'science & technology for life'.

  • This study aimed to develop, and evaluate the effectiveness of, a home economics dietary education program that could be used to improve high school students' sustainable dietary competencies. To achieve this goal, learning objectives and elements were selected for the education program to improve the students' sustainable dietary competency. The content validity of this program was verified with numerous experts. After implementing the new educational program, its effect on high school students' sustainable dietary competencies was assessed through pre- and post-tests. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, through the textbook analysis, the necessity of developing an educational program that can cultivate the three areas that constitute a sustainable diet (environment, health, and consideration) was confirmed. Second, a total of nine teaching and learning plans for sustainable dietary education programs were developed. From there, content validity verification was conducted by experts, indicating that the developed educational program was highly applicable in the field. Third, after the implementation, a survey was conducted based on a questionnaire consisting of 20 items related to three areas of sustainable diet, while the pre- and post-test assessment indicated statistically significant differences in all three areas: environment (pre: 3.40, post: 4.46, p<.001), health (pre: 3.15, post: 4.32, p<.001), and consideration (pre: 3.46, post: 4.48, p<.001). It is expected that the educational program developed in this study will be used as a basis for dietary education that fosters food citizenship in high school home economics courses.

  • In the realm of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) education, various factors play a crucial role in shaping students' acceptance of the learning environments facilitated by visualization technologies, such as virtual reality (VR). Works on leveraging the heterogeneous educational information (i.e., pedagogical data, student performance data, and student survey data) to identify essential factors influencing students' learning experience and performance in virtual environments are still insufficient. This research proposed KnowLearn, an interactive learning assistant system, to integrate an educational knowledge graph (KG) and a locally deployed large language model (LLM) to generate real-time personalized learning recommendations. As the knowledge base of KnowLearn, the educational KG accommodated multi-faceted educational information from twelve perspectives, such as the teaching content, students' academic performance, and their perceived confidence in a specific course from the AEC discipline. A heterogeneous graph attention network (HAN) was utilized to infer the latent information in the KG and, thus, identified the perceived confidence, intention to use, and performance in a relevant quiz as the top three indicators that significantly influenced students' learning outcomes. Based on the information preserved in the KG and learned from the HAN model, the LLM enhanced the personalization of recommendations concerning adopting virtual learning environments while protecting students' privacy. The proposed KnowLearn system is expected to feasibly provide enhanced recommendations on the teaching module design for educators from the AEC domain.
