  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the application method of CPTED for safer schools. For the evaluation of the school safety, we invented the school survey checklist based on the principles of CPTED such as natural surveillance, access control, maintenance, and activity support. The checklist is consisted of three parts of schools including boundary, outside of the building, and inside of the building. For the field survey of schools, the 30 schools(elementary, middle, and high school) were selected in Seoul and Kyong-gi area as the crime rate. The result of this study shows the safety score for the most of schools were not satisfied. In addition, we realized the diverse strategies to enhance the school safety should be applied to schools in terms of CPTED. The detailed findings and policy implications will be discussed in the context.

  • The purposes of National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA) are to assess Korean students' achievement of the educational goals as well as to diagnose the trends of educational achievement in order to monitor the quality of education at the national level. We analysed average scores in science achievement and trend of achievement level at the National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA) from the year 2003 to 2006 for 6th, 9th and 10th graders. The results are as follows: For grades 6, 9, and 10, the average scores of NAEA did not tend to increase or decrease. About the trend analysis of gender, females outperformed males for grade 6, but males outperformed females for grade 10. For grade 6, the ratio of females in Advanced level was more than that of the males in the same level. For grades 9 and 10, the ratio of male was higher than the females. For grades 6, 9 and 10, the ratio of males in Below-Basic level was more than that of females in the same level. The results of the educational achievement of urbanization shows that students in rural area scored the lowest. And the ratio of Below-basic level students was highest in rural area. It is needed that educational surroundings be improved to lessen the score difference both between genders and regions. An additional study is needed to used the results of NAEA for the improvement of curriculum and educational policy.

  • This study describes and compares the systems of school internal and external evaluation in South Korea and Sweden. Since education environment over the world has been changing commonly toward 'improving quality of schools' in 'decentralization of education', the more stress goes to 'education evaluation'. In this respect, school evaluation becomes a vital means to monitor schools and improve their weaknesses, as well as to enhance their strengths by informing the public of the results of evaluation. The research explores the systems of South Korean and Swedish school evaluation carried out by internal and external inspectors in order to compare the differences of two countries through qualitative methods by analyzing documents and articles related to school evaluation of two countries. Even though both South Korean and Swedish education have a 'school evaluation system as a unit', the approaches to it vary in accordance with the contexts of each country. In this regard, 'convergence' of having the same education policy of 'school evaluation' and 'divergence' of different approaches toward evaluation systems in each country have been examined in this study.

  • We developed a smart learning system by using the 'bring your own device' concept, which means the policy of permitting teacher and learners to bring personally owned mobile devices such as laptops, tablets, smart phones, etc. and applied the system to school classes. In addition, we analyzed the learner's satisfaction related to interfaces, interactions, applications, technical support, and evaluation areas. The evaluation system consists of App program for tablet PC's and smartphones, web program for desktop PC and electronic teaching desk, and server program for evaluation and database. Because all the teaching materials, feedback data and evaluation materials about learners are stored on the server, students can receive the necessary data through real-time feedback using their smartphones and desktop PC's. As a result, it could increase educational achievement with interest in learning.

  • In recent years, the objective information for the environmental effect of architecture will be furnished to the designer and inhabitant in order to minimize an excessive energy consumption and environmental loads by buildings. In addition, an environmental friendly architectural certification program for a residence, office, and school facilities have been operated to spread and supply environmental friendly architecture. Most of the environmental friendly architectural certification programs proposed in the country are focused on the aspect of the physical environments of architecture in its certification ranges. In the case of a foreign country, however, the certification ranges of an environmental friendly architectural certification program for the school facilities among the programs will be extended not only to the standards for architectural design, environmental aspect, and maintaining and management basis by considering the characteristics of educational effects for students but also to the curriculum, policy of environment, and roles of local community facilities by reflecting a social aspect. Therefore, this study proposes a design and evaluation method by considering an ecological element that will satisfy the requirement for educational well-being that includes not only the requirement for school facilities according to the development of a new curriculum like a space for teaching and learning but also the improvement of the quality of educational environments and the objective of an ecological school.

  • The Educational Restitution Rate is an important parameter that determines the quality of university education. This paper analyzed data from 148 private universities over the 10 years from 2009 to 2018 using data mining techniques in Korea. A significant causal relationship is detected in the fixed effect model as a result of the panel estimation. And the scale of faculty expansion and fund management, which are the university evaluation indicators, and the size of basic funds, respectively, have a positive effect on the ERR, which is within the confidence interval. In the analysis, the more private universities improve the tuition dependence rate, the more decisively positive affecting ERR. As a result of nonparametric regression estimation, when the faculty expansion ratio is reinforced, the effect of economies of scale is detected in some sections, the improvement of the tuition dependence rate, and the result value is generated through the improvement that results are derived at a certain point in time. We hope that the university based on this study can be a basic Indicators for the diagnosis of basic competencies and policy of student-centered education.

  • In order to strengthen the information security of the organization, it is important to invest in the information security facility, but the information security awareness of the organization members is also very important. Effective education is needed to raise awareness of this information security. However, the method of collective education utilized by most organizations is not very effective. Educational methods using serious games can be a good alternative. Educational methods using serious games have already proved effective through various cases and researches and are used in many fields. In this paper, we design and implement a game program to improve the awareness of individual information security policy importance. The training was conducted for the members of the organization and the change of awareness about the importance of individual information security policy was examined through analysis of evaluation data before and after the training.
