Mathematical Thinking and Developing Mathematical Structure

  • The mathematical thinking which transforms important mathematical content and developed into mathematical structure is a vital process in building up mathematical ability as mathematical knowledge based on structure. Such process based on students' recognition of mathematical concept. Developing mathematical thinking into mathematical structure happens when different cognitive units are connected and compressed to form schema of solution, which could happen through some guided problems. The effort of arithmetic approach in problem solving did not necessarily provide students the structure schema of solution. The using of equation to solve the problem is based on the schema of building equation, and is not necessary recognizing the structure of the solution, as the recognition of structure may be lost in the process of simplification of algebraic expressions, leaving only the final numeric answer of the problem.

The Effects of a Solution Focused Group Counseling Program on the Peer Relation and School Life Adaption of Elementary school children (해결중심적 집단상담 프로그램이 초등학교 아동의 교우관계 및 학교생활 적응에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of solution focused group counseling program on peer relationship and school life adaption of elementary school children. The subjects in this study were the 4th graders at S Elementary School in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do. 20 students were selected through the preliminary test of peer relationship and school life adaption, that is to say, each 10 students of experimental group and control group. A solution focused group counseling program was provided by researcher to the experimental group in six sessions once or twice a week, 60 minutes each. but control group was not conducted for any program. In verifying of the program effects in this study, KOREAN SPSS/WIN(version 12.0) is used for statistical analysis. The major findings of this study are as follows: First, solution focused group counseling program has a positive effect on all parts of sub-factors of peer relationship except to union life between friends. Second, solution focused group counseling program has a effect on the school life adaption of elementary and its all parts of sub-factors except to school rules. As noted above, it is proved that solution focused group counseling program has a positive effect to improve parts of sub-factors of peer relationship and school life adaption. Accordingly, it is necessary to feel satisfaction and Qualitative improvement in peer relationship and help school life adaptation of elementary school children through solution focused group counseling program.

  • Writing education for the students who major in natural sciences and engineering is concentrated on just writing in liberal education. So, this article study the condition and practical solution of writing education with a focus on natural sciences and engineering. This article researches the condition of writing in these majors of Seoul National University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University. As a result, students keenly feel the necessity of writing in this major, but SNU does not offer such courses and few teachers that could teach it. To solve this, we propose that writing teachers of liberal education give feedback on the reports of the capstone research subject 3 or 4 times, which corresponds to 1 credit. This solution would be applicable to most universities in practice, though it is not final method.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the problem of mathematic education of Korean Kindergarten, to search for the solution of the problem in korean Kindergarten. In particular, materials are mostly made and used by the teachers themselves, consuming too much time. Mathematics education materials available in Kindergartens were found to be insufficient. The reasons were the lack of effort by teachers to develop new materials as well as the lack of marketed materials.

  • The interaction of the antitumour agent doxorubicin with calf thymus DNA is investigated in an aqueous solution at a pH level of 6-7 with molar ratios of 1/10. A UV-resonance Raman spectroscopy and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy are used to determine the doxorubicin binding sites and the structural variations of doxorubicin-DNA complexes in an aqueous solution. Doxorubicin intercalates with adenine and guanine via a hydrogen bond formation between the N7 positions of purine bases and the hydroxyl group of doxorubicin.

  • Recently, semidefinite optimization problems have been intensively studied since many optimization problem can be changed into the problems and the the problems are very computationable. In this paper, we consider a semidefinite linear vector optimization problem (VP) and we establish the optimality theorems for (VP), which holds without any constraint qualification.

  • This paper will introduce the development case study about virtual-reality-based operation training system for steel making process. Steel making process consist iron making process to create liquid steel, pig iron, by reduction process, steel making process to make molten steel by refining, continuous casting process to make slab, and rolling process to make final product like coil, plate. This steel making process deals with liquid and solid products, so facilities of steel making process are very various and complicated. In addition, according to various customer requirements, the recycle of facilities and recipes changing have been fast. So the training for skilled operators is very important point. In this paper, we develop steel making training system based virtual reality for training skilled operator. This system consists of virtual machine, virtual HMI, and virtual control panel. And for fitting the characteristics of each process and increasing the education effectiveness, we develop dynamic methods like the method of dynamic education system configuration, initial facilities setup operation education system, and etc.

A Case Study on Solution Strategies for Multiplication and Division of a Second Grader (한 초등학교 2학년 아동의 곱셈과 나눗셈 해결 전략에 관한 사례 연구)

  • One second grader, Junsu, was observed 4 times before and after formal multiplication lesson in Grade 2. This study describes how solution strategies in multiplication problems develop over time and investigates awareness of the relation between situation and computation in simple measurement and partitive division problems as informally experienced. It was found that Junsu used additive calculation for small-number multiplication problems but could not solve large-number multiplication problems and that he did not have concept of mathematical terms at first interview stage. After formal teaching, Junsu learned a variety of multiplication solution strategies and transferred from additive calculation to multiplicative calculation. The cognitive processing load of each strategy was gradually reduced. Junsu experienced measurement division as a dealing strategy and partitive division as a estimate-adjust strategy dealing more than one object in the first round.
