일부 군인의 구강건강관심과 구강건강관리 인식도 조사 (Oral health concern and oral healthcare recognition of some soldiers)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to survey Korean solders' oral healthcare recognition and perceived oral health concern. Methods : The data was collected from a questionnaire given 157 soldiers in Chungcheongnamdo. The data was analyzed into t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation analysis. Results : 25.5% replied that they were concerned about oral health. Soldiers who have received oral healthcare education exhibited higher recognition on the prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease. Moreover, those who have used oral hygiene devices also showed higher recognition on the prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease. The recognition of preventive effects on dental caries, in particular, showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). In regard to the relationship between oral health concern and recognition of oral healthcare, those who were more concerned about oral health were higher recognition of periodontal disease prevention(r=0.254, p<0.01). Conclusions : To improve concern and recognition of oral health for the members, the soldiers needs to develop oral health education and policy.

도시지역 근로자의 구강보건 행태에 관한 연구 (A study of oral health behavior of urban laborer in Metropolitan area)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is understanding the behavior of the laborer relating oral health. Oral health is one of the most important requirement in the healthy life of the laborer. Also it is important to supply the welfare of the people. Methods : For this purpose survey to 400 urban laborer was carried out with questionnaire from October to November, 2009. Among them, 346 available responses were analysed with SPSS 12.0 statistic package. Results : The major findings of the study were as follows:First, Monthly income of 76.6 % of the laborer investigated was below 2500,000 won. Second, 56.1 % of the laborer investigated has the experience to visit dental clinic in the last two years. Third, 35.6 % of the laborer investigated has no experience to visit dental clinic in the last three years. Fourth, The average number of absent days due to oral disease were 0.11 day in a year. Fifth, The average number of the days fail to finish the work of the day due to oral disease were 0.32 day in a year. Sixth, 56.5% of the laborer investigated had no experience of oral health education, because of having no chance. Seventh, Factory bulletin and internet service is preferred as the source of the information on the oral health education. Eighth, In order to improve the status of oral health of laborer, periodical oral health examination and oral health education is needed. Conclusions : In order to improve the oral health of laborer, better public health policy is required, and it is made from understanding the behavior of the laborer relating oral health.

취약계층 아동의 구강건강증진 실천프로그램 적용 및 평가 (Oral Health Promotion Program Application and Effect for Underprivileged Lower Grade Students)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to apply an effective oral health promotion program and effect for underprivileged lower grade students. This study attempted to resolve some oral health inequality issues by providing underprivileged children with an oral health action program designed to promote positive oral health maintenance habits. Methods: This study was carried from May to August of 2009 with 77(control group 27 subjects, experimental group 36 subjects) elementary school students selected among first to third graders attending regional welfare center's after school program in Seoul. To the control group, conventional education methods were applied. To the experimental group, newly designed program was conducted by three project experts(1 expert, 1 dentist, 1 dental hygienist). It consisted of 5 sessions and progressed with various activities. It was focused on achieving target knowledge and changing oral health behavior. In order to evaluate the designed educational program, learners' achievement was evaluated with implementing the questionnaire and one-on-one interviews. And also the oral health improvement was evaluated based on change of Patient Hygiene Performance(PHP) index. Results: Based on the results of learners' achievement, the experimental group showed the significant increment of the oral health knowledge by the relapsed time, and it maintained after finished the program(p<0.001). The patient hygiene performance index showed not significant changed(p>0.05), but 1 month later the control group showed an increment of the PHP score, but the experimental group showed a decrement of it. Conclusions: Oral health promotion program by project approach could give a long-lasting educational effect to the children and encouraged proper oral hygiene behavioral changes.

성인의 사회경제적 위치와 구강건강 격차: 제7기 국민건강영양조사 자료 이용 (Disparities in oral health according to the socioeconomic status of adults: analysis of data from the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the socioeconomic status and oral health of adults. Methods: Data from the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016-2018) were analyzed, and 13,199 adults aged 19 years or older were selected as study subjects. Various oral health indicators were used to analyze the effect of socioeconomic status on oral health. Disparities in oral health according to socioeconomic status were analyzed using the complex sample chi-squared test and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: A statistically significant difference was observed between income level, medical aid, and all oral health indicators, which indicated that the lower the income level, the lower the oral health level (p<0.001). Furthermore, all oral health indicators displayed statistically significant differences, with the exception of the prevalence of dental caries and education level. The lower the education level, the lower the oral health level (p<0.001). Therefore, the oral health level of adults presented significant differences according to different socioeconomic status indicators. Conclusions: To prevent oral health inequalities, the government and local governments need to intervene not only in the field of health care but also in the social determinants. Additionally, concerted efforts should be made to eliminate oral health disparities by improving policies and systems.

어머니의 구강보건관리행태와 자녀의 우식경험유치지수와의 관련성 (The relations between mothers' oral health behavior and children's mean number of decayed or filled primary teeth)

  • Objectives : This study was to assess the children's mean number of decayed or filled primary teeth in relation to their mother's oral health behavior and then to increase children's oral health. Methods : The 346 children and their mothers were selected for this study. The children were 4 or 7 years old in the 4 dental clinics in Busan and Kyungnam, Korea. Data were collected by examination on children and self-administrated questionnaire on their mothers. The questionnaire was surveyed mother's oral health behaviour and children experienced dental caries or not and the number of decayed or filled they had were used as outcome variables. Results : 1. The mother's education level affected children's dft index significantly(p<0.05), In the case of tooth brushing method of children, the group with circle teeth wipes shows the low dft index(p<0.01). 2. On the other hand the group with snack as food eaten between meals has high dft index(p<0.001). 3. The group with mother's visiting to dentist within recent 1 year, experience in removing plaque or willing to attend the oral health education show low dft index(p<0.05). The important variables affecting to dft index are experience with oral health education, tooth brushing guidance, replacement of toothbrushes, the kind of food eaten between meals, recent experience of plaque removal and willing to participating in the oral health class. Conclusions : This study showed that the mother's oral health behavior and concern play an important role for the prevention of preschooler's dental caries. Dental health education would be focused on the mothers, expecially for the practice of preventive behavior by preschools themselves.

일개 치과내원 환자의 전신질환과 구강건강 간 연관성 및 관련 교육 필요성 인식에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors Related to Awareness and Education Regarding Relationship between Systemic Disease and Oral Health among Dental Patients)

  • 본 연구에서는 A치과에 내원하는 환자 중 20-60세에 해당하는 환자 110명을 대상으로 설문조사를 통해 전신질환과 구강건강 간 연관성에 관한 인식 수준과 교육 현황을 파악하였고, 최종 분석에는 92명의 응답을 포함하였다. 연구대상자 중 두 건강상태의 연관성을 인식하고 있는 비율은 48.9%로 나타났다. 또한 연구대상자 중 39.1%는 전신질환과 구강건강의 연관성에 대한 교육을 받은 경험이 있는 것으로 나타났고, 68.5%는 교육이 필요한 것으로 인식하였다. 전신질환과 구강건강의 연관성과 교육 필요성 인식 수준과 관련된 요인을 확인하기 위하여, 로지스틱회귀분석을 실시한 결과 정기적으로 치과를 내원하는 경우 두 질환의 연관성을 인식할 가능성이 3.94배 높았고, 주관적 구강건강수준이 나쁜 경우 교육의 필요성을 인지할 가능성이 5.20배 높았으며, 과거 교육경험 여부는 두 질환의 연관성 인식 및 교육 필요성 인식 수준에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 치과에 내원하는 환자들을 대상으로 치과의료전문가는 교육주체자로서 보다 체계적인 교육방식을 통하여 전신질환과 구강건강 간 연관성에 관한 교육을 필수적으로 수행해야 할 것이다. 이를 위해 치과의료전문가는 진료실 구강보건교육 매뉴얼 및 다양한 매체를 개발해야 하고, 효과적인 교육방법을 모색해야 한다.

대학생의 구강관련 외모만족도와 주관적 구강건강 상태의 관련성 (Correlation between oral-related appearance satisfaction and subjective oral health status of college students)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine correlation between subjective oral health status and oral-related appearance satisfaction of college students. 100 college students at a college located in Gyeonggi-do participated in the survey, oral examinations, and self-rated oral hygiene management ability tests. The data was then analyzed accordingly. Methods: Frequency test and chi-square statistical analysis were conducted on general characteristics and subjective oral health status, and SAS version 9.2 was used. Results: As a result of this study, students' subjective perceptions about oral health had positive correlation with oral-related appearance(p <0.05). It is noteworthy that those who responded on 'satisfactory' oral health status indicated that 16% 'unsatisfactory', 28% 'average' and 68% 'satisfactory' on oral-related appearance. Students' self-rated oral hygiene management ability and irregular teeth conditions were also found relevant in causing discomfort in interpersonal activities, whereas students responded 'satisfactory', 0.00%; 'average', 31.82%; 'unsatisfactory' 68.18% (p <0.05). Conclusion: This study suggests that oral-related appearance can have an impact on oral health status and that oral-related appearance can be a contributing factor to improve oral health status and therefore results in promotion of general health. In the future, further research should be considered about perception on oral-related appearance, oral health status and any resulting behavior changes.

구강보건교육 진행 방식에 따른 초등학생의 치과공포지수 차이 (Comparison on Dental Anxiety according to the Type of Oral Health Education)

  • 본 연구는 초등학생을 대상으로 참여식 및 강의식 교육법의 구강보건교육이 치과공포지수에 미치는 영향을 알아보고, 치과공포를 줄일 수 있는 구강보건교육 방안을 마련하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 2014년 4월 D초등학교에 다니는 10세 아동으로, 의사소통이 가능하며 전신 질환이 없는 아동 총 40명을 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구는 구강보건교육을 시행하기 전, 각 교육군 연구대상자들에게 치과공포지수를 측정하기 위하여 자가기입 설문조사를 수행하였다. 그 후, 2주에 걸쳐 한 시간 가량의 구강보건교육을 총 2회 진행하였다. 참여식 교육군에는 소아치과에서 사용하는 행동조절방법인 체계적 탈감작법(Tell(말)-Show(시범)-Do(시행))을 적용하여 구강보건교육을 진행하였고, 강의식 교육군(대조군)에는 power point(PPT)를 이용한 교육방법으로 실시하였다. 2회 교육이 종료된 후, 각 군에서 교육 전 조사한 설문지와 동일한 설문지를 이용하여, 치과공포지수를 재측정하였다. 참여식 교육군에서는 교육 전 치과공포지수가 9.61점이었으나, 교육 후에 7.13점으로 유의하게 감소하였으나, 강의식 교육군은 교육 전 11.14점에서 교육 후 10.59점으로 조사되었다. 따라서, 참여식 교육방법을 적용하는 구강보건교육이 소아 청소년의 치과공포지수를 감소시키는데 효과적인 것으로 사료되었다.

주관적으로 인지한 구강건강상태가 삶의 질에 미치는 영향 : PRECEDE 모형 적용 (Impact of Subjectively Reported Oral Health Status on the Quality of Life among Adults: Applying the PRECEDE Model)

  • Objectives: This study aims to identify the impact of subjectively reported oral health status on the quality of life by applying the PRECEDE model. Methods: This study was conducted on a total of 450 people who had dental visit experience among persons above 35 and under 65 years living in Seoul and Gyeonggi provinces. Oral health-related quality of life was measured using the OHIP-14. The relationship between subjectively reported oral health status and the quality of life was evaluated by the chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: OHIP-14 scores were significantly associated with self-reported oral health problem. Especially the strongest correlations were found between functional limitation, physical psychological social disability on the OHIP-14 7 sub-factor and self-reported periodontitis and dry mouth symptoms. Conclusion: Subjectively reported oral health status is associated with oral heath related quality of life. In order to improve people's the quality of life, taking care of their oral heath is indispensable factor. Therefore, it is required to revitalize regular oral health check system and the development of effective oral health education programs by the government to prevent periodontitis and dry mouth as well.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyzes the Job of Dental Hygienists in Dental (Clinics) Hospitals the Capital region. The results are as follows : (1) Job importance of dental hygienists were order 'photographing in Dental Radiology', 'Management of Dental clinic', 'Oral prophylaxis', in case education-training need was order 'dental health insurance', 'Oral prophylaxis', 'Management of Dental clinic'. duty more than 5.0 of job importance and education-training need was as 'dental health education', 'Oral prophylaxis', 'preventive dental treatment', 'dental assistance (cooperation)', 'photographing in Dental Radiology', 'dental health insurance', 'Management of Dental clinic', Duty of practice centering in Dental (Clinics) Hospitals except 'Public oral health'. (2) Job importance and education-training need of task increased most of job importance in proportion to education-training need. (3) No significantly between dental hospital hygienist and dental clinic hygienist difference of job importance and education-training need according to work place. but 'Management of Dental clinic' and 'dental health insurance' of dental hospital hygienist lower than dental clinic hygienist. (4) The results job importance compare less 3 years to more 3 years of dental hygienists were perceive significantly 'dental health education', 'Public oral health', 'dental health insurance', 'Management of Dental clinic' the other hand, education-training need was perceive significantly 'preventive dental treatment'.
