A Study on the Effect of HMD VR Technology on Design Application: Focusing on 3DEXPERIENCE Platform VR (HMD VR 기술이 디자인 활용에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 3DEXPERIENCE 플랫폼의 VR을 중심으로)

  • Recently, companies are growing by introducing rational and optimized technology for all processes, including design. In particular, the emergence of ICT-based cloud platforms has given rise to solutions that are equipped with all the necessary business services in corporations and schools, affecting technical education and corporate growth that have not been experienced thus far. The virtual reality technology and convergence of HMD devices utilizing this platform is a new turning point in corporate development. Therefore, this study tested the VR functions used in design based on 3DEXP and HMD VR devices. Second, design utilization and this issue were examined through a survey based on the experimental data. The results showed that 3DEXP and HMD VR technologies are closely related in terms of design utilization and have demonstrated their mediated effects through statistical analysis. Nevertheless, it is not enough to generalize some engineering students as a result of the study. On the other hand, the introduction of HMD VR technology is one of the pillars of education and the implementation of virtual reality technology.

  • As the use of smart devices is being increased rapidly by the development of internet and IT technology, the contents production and utilization rate are showing higher increase, too. In addition, the type of contents also shows very diverse forms such as education, game, video, UCC, etc. In the meantime, the contents are reproduced in diverse forms by reprocessing the original contents, and they are being serviced through the contents service platform. Therefore, the platform to make the contents reprocessing easy and fast is needed. As the diverse contents distribution channels such as YouTube, SNS, App Service, etc, easier contents distribution platform is needed, and the development of the relevant area is expected. In addition, as the selective consumption of the contents having easy accessibility through diverse smart devices is distinguished, the demand for the platform and service that can identify the contents consumption propensity by individual is being increased. Therefore, in this study, to vitalize the online contents distribution, the contents reproduction and publishing platform, was designed and materialized, which can reproduce and distribute the contents based on the real-time contents editing technology in URL unit and the consumer propensity analysis technology using the data management-based broadcasting contents distribution metadata technology and the edited image contents streaming technology. In addition, in the results of comparing with other platforms through the experiment, the performance superiority of the suggested platform was verified. If the suggested platform is applied to the areas of education, broadcasting, press, etc, the multi-media contents can be reproduced and distributed easily, through which the vitalization of contents-related industry is expected.

  • In the 21st century fashion industry, the rise of digital environments has transformed it into a dynamic medium, expanding the horizons of media utilization. Consequently, digital fashion film has emerged as a pivotal tool for fashion communication. Functioning as a visual expression medium, fashion film animates fashion concepts into immersive moving images. Proficiency in digital fashion communication has become imperative, considering the attributes of fashion media. Notably, the role of creative directors in ensuring coherent communication across diverse fashion media platforms has gained prominence, underscoring the need for systematic fashion education to nurture specialized talent. This study, therefore, devised a comprehensive curriculum amalgamating fashion communication and practical digital media skills, implemented within fashion major courses. Through this approach, students gained experimental media proficiency and explored innovative approaches to crafting fashion films that eloquently convey fashion narratives. The participants were exposed to the entire spectrum of fashion media production, encompassing digital storytelling, fashion film conceptualization, filming techniques, meticulous editing, and adept utilization of special effects technology. The study's pedagogical strategy, characterized by a focused learning trajectory, garnered significant acclaim. In essence, this study holds significance by formulating a curriculum that nurtures the imaginative and pragmatic aptitudes of fashion majors, immersing them in the dynamic realm of rapidly evolving digital fashion films and their integration with fashion content.

Design and Implementation of Ubiquitous Sensor Network System for Monitoring the Bio-information and Emergency of the Elderly in Silver Town

  • An ubiquitous sensor network (USN) system to monitor the bio information and the emergency of the elderly in the silver town is presented. The USN system consists of the sensor node platforms based on MCU of Atmage128L and RF Chip of CC2420 satisfying IEEE 802.15.4, which includes the bios sensor module such as the electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor and the temperature sensor. Additionally, when an emergency of the elderly is occurred in the silver town, the routing algorithm suitable to find and inform the location of the elderly is proposed, and the proposed routing algorithm is applied to the USN. To collect and manage the ECG data at the PC connected to the sink node, LabView software is used. The bio information and the emergency of the elderly can also be monitored at the client PC by TCP/IP networks in the USN system.

The Trajectory of University Science Parks (USPs) in China: Institutional Evolution and Assessment

  • This study aims to identify the chronological trajectory of university science parks (USPs) in China and to discuss the roles of government-driven science and technology (S&T) policies in the development of USPs and the future directions of these entities. Our study shows that USPs in China have undergone two development waves: The first from the late 1980s to the late 1990s, when research universities expected to directly participate in economic activities, and the second from 2000 when the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) jointly enacted the Proposed Regulation of State-level USPs Management to guide and regulate the development of USPs. The development trajectory highlights that USPs are effective platforms that link scientific research, knowledge spillovers and industrial system. However, Chinese USPs still need to confront some conundrums which may influence the processes and outcomes of UILs. Finally, we also summarize the major issues inherent in the development of USPs to guide policymakers to enact more effective policies.

  • The development of autonomous vehicles are currently being actively carried out by various companies and research institutes. Expectations for commercialization in daily life as well as specific industries are also rising. Simulators for autonomous vehicles are an essential element in algorithm development and execution considering stability and cost. In this need, various simulators and platforms for simulators are emerging, but research on simulations that reflect various meteorological environmental factors in the real world is still insufficient. This paper proposes a traffic simulation for autonomous vehicles that can consider the weather environment. The weather environment that can be set is largely classified into four categories, and an improved collision prevention algorithm to apply them is presented. Simulation development was conducted through Carla's Python API, a development tool for autonomous driving, and the performance results were compared with existing collision algorithms. Through this, we tried to propose improvements for the development of advanced self-driving vehicle simulations that can reflect various weather environmental factors in real life.

  • This paper presents a critical analysis of the current application of big data in higher education and how Learning Analytics (LA), and Educational Data Mining (EDM) are helping to shape learning in higher education institutions that have applied the concepts successfully. An extensive literature review of Learning Analytics, Educational Data Mining, Learning Management Systems, Informal Learning and Online Social Networks are presented to understand their usage and trends in higher education pedagogy taking advantage of 21st century educational technologies and platforms. The roles of and benefits of these technologies in teaching and learning are critically examined. Imperatively, this study provides vital information for education stakeholders on the significance of establishing a teaching and learning agenda that takes advantage of today's educational relevant technologies to promote teaching and learning while also acknowledging the difficulties of 21st-century learning. Aside from the roles and benefits of these technologies, the review highlights major challenges and research needs apparent in the use and application of these technologies. It appears that there is lack of research understanding in the challenges and utilization of data effectively for learning analytics, despite the massive educational data generated by high institutions. Also due to the growing importance of LA, there appears to be a serious lack of academic research that explore the application and impact of LA in high institution, especially in the context of informal online social network learning. In addition, high institution managers seem not to understand the emerging trends of LA which could be useful in the running of higher education. Though LA is viewed as a complex and expensive technology that will culturally change the future of high institution, the question that comes to mind is whether the use of LA in relation to informal learning in online social network is really what is expected? A study to analyze and evaluate the elements that influence high usage of OSN is also needed in the African context. It is high time African Universities paid attention to the application and use of these technologies to create a simplified learning approach occasioned by the use of these technologies.

Analysis on Teacher's Height and Authority in Robot-assisted Learning (원격로봇교사의 키와 초등 수업 통제력의 영향 분석)

  • Telepresence in robot assisted learning has preferred low-height, shorter than life-size robotic platforms for reasons such as operational stability, user convenience and psychological comfort in human robot interaction. If, however, the reason for using a telepresence robot is to display the authority of a social superior to a social inferior, one can hypothesize that a robotic platform which reflects real-life height advantage would be better suited for the stated purpose than conventional low-height platforms. In order to test the hypothesis, we examined whether the height of the robot had an effect on an instructor connected to a telepresence robot in robot-assisted learning with regard to controlling a large number of elementary school students. The pre-and post experiment demonstrates that the use of a life-size telepresence robot, compared to a child-size telepresence robot, failed to make a meaningful difference in the instructors' authority being accepted by the students. However, behavioral measures shows that a taller robot has more merits in controlling students.

Social media impact in the Match: A survey of current trends in the United States

  • Background Applicants to integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery (PRS) residency in the United States spend exorbitant amounts of time and money throughout the interview process. Outside of first-hand experience through a visiting rotation, applicants utilize various resources in learning about a program. Today's applicants are "Millennials," the demographic cohort raised during the information age and proficient with digital technology. The authors evaluated whether programs have a presence on social media, and whether applicants are following these accounts. Methods An online survey was sent to applicants to a single integrated plastic surgery program evaluating basic demographics, social media utilization, and sources of information accessed throughout the residency application process. A manual search of popular social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) was performed in October 2019. Accounts affiliated with integrated PRS programs were identified and analyzed. Results Eighty-four of 222 applicants (37.8%) completed the survey. Ninety-six percent of applicants were within the Millennial demographic. Ninety-six percent of applicants had some form of social media presence, with Facebook (90%) and Instagram (87%) being the most popular platforms. Seventy-three percent of applicants reported following a PRS residency social media account. As of October 2019, 59 integrated residency programs (73%) have active Instagram accounts. Conclusions Applicants still rely on the program website when researching potential residencies, but social media is being rapidly adopted by programs. Program social media accounts should be used as a dynamic form of communication to better inform applicants of program strengths and weaknesses.

Research on Case Analysis of Library E-learning Platforms: Focusing on Learning Contents and Functions (도서관 이러닝 플랫폼 사례분석 연구 - 학습 내용 및 기능을 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to propose the main learning contents, functions and activation plans for building an e-learning platform for libraries through a literature review, case analysis and expert survey. Through the literature review, it was found that libraries must play a role in providing high-quality online education for users in the e-learning ecosystem. Based on the previous studies, a learning function analysis tool was developed for the analysis of the library's e-learning platform. Based on this, the learning contents, learning functions and characteristics of library e-learning platforms were analyzed, and expert surveys and interviews were conducted. As a results, the construction of a platform for effectively applying learning processes and technology is essential for the library's sustainable e-learning services. The contents that should be provided for characteristics of library education, reading guidance, information literacy instruction, library usage instruction, and the latest IT technologies. And The main learning functions include the ability to conduct video lectures and real-time classes among learning types, and learning activity support functions, a cloud platform support function and a personalized environment support function. Additionally, suggested re-education for library staff to improve their technical skills and the formation of an e-learning team.
