  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the behavioral responses to a robot pet in pre-school children. Method: This activity for children was conducted for 5 days at a kindergarten and each session lasted 30 minutes. In order to measure children's temperament, Chun Heeyoung's Temperament Rating Scale was used. In addition, to investigate the behavioral responses to a robot pet, each session was videotaped. The videotape data was analyzed according to child-robot interaction. Result: On the average, subjects scored highest in emotionality and lowest in activity for the temperamental subscale. The videotape data revealed verbal, positive nonverbal, and negative nonverbal interaction. Conclusions: These results suggest that child-robot interaction reflects temperamental characteristics, therefore, to develop a nursing intervention program using a robot, it is necessary to consider individual differences and recreational factors to grab children's interest.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to solve the difficulties in constructing an environment capable of practical training on the theoretical contents of robot control field. We make a two-wheeled mobile robot with Segway structure using LEGO block. In order to demonstrate the validity of using the developed robot as a practical application of advanced control theory of robotics education such as dynamic system and nonlinear system, the robot takes a stable posture while balancing the change of gravity during running. The results of the experiment are shown. By presenting the results, the robots made using the LEGO block are used for practical training of advanced control theory of robotics. It can be used as a tool.

  • A binary parallel robot manipulator uses actuators that have only two stable states being built by stacking variable geometry trusses on top of each other in a long serial chain. Discrete characteristics of the binary manipulator make it impossible to analyze an inverse kinematic problem in conventional ways. We therefore introduce new definitions of workspace and inverse kinematic solution, and the apply a genetic algorithm to the newly defied inverse kinematic problem. Numerical examples show that our genetic algorithm is very efficient to solve the inverse kinematic problem of binary robot manipulators.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze teacher's lesson language pattern based on robot class. For this research as an analytical tool AF (Advanced Flanders) was utilized. Actually ClassReport ver 1.0 computer program was used in the process of input data. From the results of the Flanders index, The major instruction sequences were 4-8-3 in elementary school and 4-8 in middle school. The teacher's remarks in robot class in the elementary school rank 'instruction', 'question'. And In the middle school rank 'instruction' and 'positive advice' are very high ratio, but 'indication' is low ratio. The teacher constantly teach and ask question ratio in the middle school was higher than elementary school. But a tendency for non-indication was low ratio in the middle school than elementary school. These results could provide effective cues and information on how to to improve instruction.

  • It is very important for the robot to recognize its position to accomplish numerous tasks and to go to the goal. In this paper, we suggest Location Recognition System to distinguish robot's locations using land-mark and the odometer in the environment of sensor network. All in all, we created a basic intelligent robot, Location Recognition System, and Environment Sensor Modules; we verified the proposed algorithm through computer simulation.

  • In this paper, the implementation of creative engineering robot with MCU platform is described. This robot, as a platform of robot system to be used as creative engineering education, has to satisfy restrictions in many aspects in order to study algorithm and apply for the processor based function and pattern recognition application. Considering many restrictions of the mobile platform for creative robot system, we made this robot autonomous by using efficiently the LINUX embedded system. And we choose Marvell Monahan processor(PXA320) as MCU flatform, and used CentOS5.2 as an embedded OS that has the function of robustness and optimality. For flexibility and modularity, the platform has expansion ports. The results of experiment are described to show the pattern matching of creative engineering mobile robot with LINUX programming environments.

  • Currently robots are widely used in schools for educational purpose. With wide spread of robot-based education, it is known that major advantage of robot-based education is to enhance creativity and logical thinking of students. Although robots can be very useful tools for assisting students' study activities, there have not been lots of teaching-learning models for robot-based education. In this paper, a teaching-learning model is presented for robot-based education. The proposed model is designed based on constructivism. The proposed model consists of 6 stages: preparation, design, assembling, demonstration run, evaluation, and application & extension. The proposed model has the following characteristics. First, the proposed model is designed to enhance creativity and logical thinking ability of learners. Learners are supposed to be involved in self-directed activities and required to provide results based on their own ideas. Teachers are supposed to mediate students only if necessary. Second, learners are encouraged to participate in activity via diverse interaction. The interaction in this model includes learner-to-learner interaction, learner-to-teacher interaction, and learner-to-expert interaction. The proposed model encourages learners to solve the problem with cooperating each other. Also, teachers are supposed to guide students if necessary and observe and monitor behavior of students all the time. Third, motivation is provided in the beginning stage of the instruction. Fourth, in the proposed model, both study results and study process are equally important. In the model, study process is reviewed at the final stage.

  • As a result of introducing robot assisted learning which utilizes social robots or telepresence robots in language learning or special education, research on technology acceptance model for robot-assisted learning is also being conducted. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model of intelligent robot has been studied, but of tele-operated robot is insufficient. The purpose of this paper is to estimate the UTAUT model by pre-service teachers who experienced telepresence robot-assisted learning that can be done in future school. It is found that the estimated UTAUT model consists of more concise factors than social robots, and the importance of perceived enjoyment is higher. In other words, the pre-service teachers showed significant acceptance of tele-operated robots with enhanced enjoyment composed of its mobility, communication, and touchable appearance of the face and body.
