  • One often thinks that those doing any activity on the Internet are likely to be addicted to it so that they tend to rather restrain the educational use of what the Internet can provide. However, the online edu-games deserve a good learning material which can not only provoke learners' interest but also draw out a smoother interaction between teachers and learners. Even the preliminary study on immersion verified that the Internet could work positively for the learners. Considering that online edu-games can be a useful tool for individual learning, more studies on immersion should be conducted focusing on the individualization in the future. This paper shows the differences among the components of learning immersion depending on the different individual cognitive styles in the online edu-games.

Methods: This study implemented a handbell melody program suitable for children's interest and development characteristics, based on Nuri Curriculum, to 15 mixed-aged edu-care children aged 3 to 4 at C Kindergarten located in Seoul for 12 weeks (once a week) from October 2015. Results: The program consisted of the origin of handbell, promises to keep in playing the handbell, partial literary introduction, and musical note activities using teaching aids or games in an integrated way with other areas. Through the program, dynamic class could be carried out with mutual leading participation of a teacher and children. Consequently, children aged 3 to 4 could easily encounter playing the handbell, being interested in playing, and showed cooperative spirit and society-friendly behaviors. The mixed age edu-care teacher felt pleasure and achievement of challenge by performing the class herself, which had depended upon extracurricular activities. Conclusion/Implications: A further study as action research for edu-care teachers, focused on change of edu-care teachers themselves, is proposed.

  • This research examined the actual state of deaf students' use of Internet games by administering an Internet game addiction scale test to 201 deaf students from elementary, middle or high schools. The research findings indicated that middle and high school students were more likely to be left at home after school without their protector's presence than elementary school students. The average daily sleep hours of deaf students were similar to or fewer than those of general students, and the amount of their Internet access time and the one spent on Internet games were greater than that of non disabled students. As for the Internet user types, more male deaf students were categorized into risk user type than female deaf students, and the number of deaf risk user type students was significantly higher than that of non disabled risk user type students. The results suggest that the on-going national research on the actual state of Internet game users should include disabled students and that there is an urgent need to develop prevention programs of computer games overindulgence.

  • In many countries, recently computer programming eduction has become mandatory for K-12 students. Generally since programming is difficult for K-12 students to learn, a lot of previous works have been published in which the study motivation and class satisfaction increased when game programming was applied to programming classes. We investigated a research in which we used game programming in the programming classes for middle-school students, and analyzed educational effects. In this paper, we described the specification of the games and our class model that were applied in the research. Also, we analyzed changes made to computation thinking abilities, creative thinking abilities, and perceived support for programming after the programming classes. As a result, it was found that those abilities and the perceived support were increased. Additionally, we applied Havruta learning, a kind of paired learning, in the programming class, and have known that it increased the educational outcome with respect to the traditional method.
