A phase-locked loop (PLL)-based frequency synthesizer is proposed for a system on a chip (SoC) using multi-frequency clock signals. The proposed PLL-based frequency synthesizer consists of a charge pump PLL which is implemented by a phase frequency detector (PFD), a charge pump (CP), a loop filter, a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), and a frequency divider, and an edge combiner. The PLL outputs a 12-phase clock by a VCO using six differential delay cells. The edge combiner synthesizes the frequency of the output clock through edge combining and frequency division of the 12-phase output clock of the PLL. The proposed PLL-based frequency synthesizer is designed using a 55-nm CMOS process with a 1.2-V supply voltage. It outputs three clocks with frequencies of 166 MHz, 83 MHz and 124.5MHz for a reference clock with a frequency of 20.75 MHz.

In this paper, we proposed a method for extracting facial characteristics of human being in an image. Given a pair of gray level sample images taken with and without human being, the face of human being is segmented from the image. Noise in the input images is removed with the help of Gaussian filters. Edge maps are found of the two input images. The binary edge differential image is obtained from the difference of the two input edge maps. A mask for face detection is made from the process of erosion followed by dilation on the resulting binary edge differential image. This mask is used to extract the human being from the two input image sequences. Features of face are extracted from the segmented image. An effective recognition system using the discrete wave let transform (DWT) is used for recognition. For extracting the facial features, such as eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth, edge detector is applied on the segmented face image. The area of eye and the center of face are found from horizontal and vertical components of the edge map of the segmented image. other facial features are obtained from edge information of the image. The characteristic vectors are extrated from DWT of the segmented face image. These characteristic vectors are normalized between +1 and -1, and are used as input vectors for the neural network. Simulation results show recognition rate of 100% on the learned system, and about 92% on the test images.

A single-shot dual-energy x-ray imaging technique has been developed using a sandwich detector by stacking two detectors, in which the front and rear detectors respectively produce relatively lower and higher x-ray energy images. Each detector layer is composed of a phosphor screen coupled with a photodiode array. The front detector layer employs a thinner phosphor screen, whereas the rear detector layer employs a thicker phosphor screen considering the quantum efficiency for x-ray photons with higher energies. We have applied the proposed method into the inspection of printed circuit boards, and obtained dual-energy images with background clutter suppressed. In addition, the single-shot dual-energy method provides sharper-edge images than the conventional radiography because of the unsharp masking effect resulting from the use of different thickness phosphors between the two detector layers. It is promising to use the single-shot dual-energy x-ray imaging for high-resolution nondestructive testing. For the reliable use of the developed method, however, more quantitative analysis is further required in comparisons with the conventional method for various types of printed circuit boards.
Digital imaging detectors can use a variety of detection materials to convert X-ray radiation either to light or directly to electron charge. Many detectors such as amorphous silicon flat panels, CCDs, and CMOS photodiode arrays incorporate a scintillator screen to convert x-ray to light. The digital radiography systems based on semiconductor detectors, commonly referred to as flat panel detectors, are gaining popularity in the clinical & hospital. The X-ray detectors are described between a-Silicon based indirect type and a-Selenium based direct type. The DRS of detectors is used to convert the x-ray to electron hole pairs. Image processing is described by specific image features: Latitude compression, Contrast enhancement, Edge enhancement, Look up table, Noise suppression. The image features are tuned independently. The final enhancement result is a combination of all image features. The parameters are altered by using specific image features in the different several hospitals. The image in a radiological report consists of two image evaluation processes: Clinical image parameters and MTF is a descriptor of the spatial resolution of a digital imaging system. We used the edge test phantom and exposure procedure described in the IEC 61267 to obtain an edge spread function from which the MTF is calculated. We can compare image in the processing parameters to change between original and processed image data. The angle of the edge with respect to the axes of detector was varied in order to determine the MTF as a function of direction. Each MTF is integrated within the spatial resolution interval of 1.35-11.70 cycles/mm at the 50% MTF point. Each image enhancement parameters consists of edge, frequency, contrast, LUT, noise, sensitometry curve, threshold level, windows. The digital device is also shown to have good uniformity of MTF and image parameters across its modality. The measurements reported here represent a comprehensive evaluation of digital radiography system designed for use in the DRS. The results indicate that the parameter enables very good image quality in the digital radiography. Of course, the quality of image from a parameter is determined by other digital devices in addition to the proper clinical image.
The uncertainty of the detector-based candela scale is limited by the area measurement uncertainty of radiometric apertures. The apertures were fabricated with a diamond-turning machine which trimmed the edge of the apertures as sharply as a knife edge. The positions of the apertures were controlled by a digital feedback algorithm to scan the laser spot with the beam waist less than 5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The knife edge scan yielded a set of coordinates on the edges of the aperture. The areas of the apertures were obtained by fitting the coordinates to the ellipses. The relative standard uncertainty of the measurement was estimated to be 8${\times}$10$^{-5}$.

In this paper, the hybrid function by local scale control is proposed to detect the optimal edges from blurred images. In the case of image capturing, some blurring is occurred by the characteristics of the illumination and the reflected light. During processing the blurred image, it is difficult to detect perfect edges. This algorithm proposed a new hybrid function which is merged Gaussian function and the second derivative of Gaussian function. And it detects the optimal edges applying directional edge detection by Canny algorithm as the scale factor of $\sigma$ in the given local mask has been changed after convolving the hybrid function for input image. In the result, the performance is confirmed that this algorithm is better than Sobel, Robert and Canny edge detector by analyzing the some test images. And the results is obtained 0.2 ㏈ ~ 14 ㏈ of PSNR than those conventional method.
Miniaturized tissue equivalent proportional counters (mini-TEPCs) are proper for radiation dosimetry in medical application because the small size of the dosimeter could prevent pile-up effect under the high intensity of therapeutic beam. However, traditional methods of calibrating mini-TEPCs using internal alpha sources are not feasible due to their small size. In this study, we investigated the use of electron and proton edges on Monte Carlo-generated lineal energy spectra as markers for calibrating a 0.9 mm diameter and length mini-TEPC. Three possible markers for each spectrum were calculated and compared using different simulation tools. Our simulations showed that the electron edge markers were more consistent across different simulation tools than the proton edge markers, which showed greater variation due to differences in the microdosimetric spectra. In most cases, the second marker, yδδ, had the smallest uncertainty. Our findings suggest that the lineal energy spectra from mini-TEPCs can be calibrated using Monte Carlo simulations that closely resemble real-world detector and source geometries.

The new spectrometer for X-ray Induced Electron Emission Spectroscopy (XIEES) .has been recently developed in KRISS in collaboration with PTI (Russia). The spectrometer allows to perform research using the XAFS, SXAFS, XANES techniques (D.C.Koningsberger and R.Prins, 1988) as well as the number of techniques from XIEES field(L.A.Bakaleinikov et all, 1992). The experiments may be carried out with registration of transmitted through the sample x-rays (to investigate bulk samples) or/and total electron yield (TEY) from the sample surface that gives the high (down to several atomic mono-layers in soft x-ray region) near surface sensitivity. The combination of these methods together give the possibility to obtain a quantitative information on elemental composition, chemical state, atomic structure for powder samples and solids, including non-crystalline materials (the long range order is not required). The optical design of spectrometer is made according to Johannesson true focusing schematics and presented on the Fig.1. Five stepping motors are used to maintain the focusing condition during the photon energy scan (crystal angle, crystal position along rail, sample goniometer rail angle, sample goniometer position along rail and sample goniometer angle relatively of rail). All movements can be done independently and simultaneously that speeds up the setting of photon energy and allows the using of crystals with different Rowland radil. At present six curved crystals with different d-values and one flat synthetic multilayer are installed on revolver-type monochromator. This arrangement allows the wide range of x-rays from 100 eV up to 25 keV to be obtained. Another 4 stepping motors set exit slit width, sample angle, channeltron position and x-ray detector position. The differential pumping allows to unite vacuum chambers of spectrometer and x-ray generator avoiding the absorption of soft x-rays on Be foil of a window and in atmosphere. Another feature of vacuum system is separation of walls of vacuum chamber (which are deformed by the atmospheric pressure) from optical elements of spectrometer. This warrantees that the optical elements are precisely positioned. The detecting system of the spectrometer consists of two proportional counters, one scintillating detector and one channeltron detector. First proportional counter can be used as I/sub 0/-detector in transmission mode or by measuring the fluorescence from exit slit edge. The last installation can be used to measure the reference data (that is necessary in XANES measurements), in this case the reference sample is installed on slit knife edge. The second proportional counter measures the intensity of x-rays transmitted through the sample. The scintillating detector is used in the same way but on the air for the hard x-rays and for alignment purposes. Total electron yield from the sample is measured by channeltron. The spectrometer is fully controlled by special software that gives the high flexibility and reliability in carrying out of the experiments. Fig.2 and fig.3 present the typical XAFS spectra measured with spectrometer.
In recent years, the use of text inserted into TV contents has grown to provide viewers with better visual understanding. In this paper, video text is defined as superimposed text region located of the bottom of video. Video text extraction is the first step for video information retrieval and video indexing. Most of video text detection and extraction methods in the previous work are based on text color, contrast between text and background, edge, character filter, and so on. However, the video text extraction has big problems due to low resolution of video and complex background. To solve these problems, we propose a method to extract text from videos using the Harris corner detector. The proposed algorithm consists of four steps: corer map generation using the Harris corner detector, extraction of text candidates considering density of comers, text region determination using labeling, and post-processing. The proposed algorithm is language independent and can be applied to texts with various colors. Text region update between frames is also exploited to reduce the processing time. Experiments are performed on diverse videos to confirm the efficiency of the proposed method.

The detection of geometric primitives from a digital image is one of the basic tasks in computer vision area and the Hough transform is a well-known method for detecting analytical shape represented by a number of free parameters. However the basic property of the Hough transform, the one-to-many mapping from an image space to a Hough space, causes the innate problem, the sensitivity to noise. In this paper, we proposed Edge Strength Hough Transform which uses edge strength to reduce the sensitivity to noise and proved the insensitivity using the ratio of peaks in a Mough space. We also experimented the proposed method on lines and got small number of peaks in a Hough space compared to traditional Hough transform, which supports the noise insensitivity of the proposed method.
