  • It is a very important procedure to establish the occlusal plane in the construction of complete denture. So many methods have been utilized to establish the occlusal plane in complete denture prosthodontics. However, no single method seems to fully accepted. This study was aimed to review the literature on establishing the occlusal plane in complete denture prosthodontics, to measure the distance from the lower border of the upper lip to the upper incisal edge and to investigate the correlation between the ala-tragus line and the occlusal plane. The results ware as follows ; 1. The average distance between the lower border of the upper lip and the upper incisal edge was $1.45{\pm}1.28mm$. 2. The distance between the lower border of the upper lip and the upper incisal edge had a tendency to decrease with age. 3. A angle of the ala-tragus line to the occlusal plane measured with Fox plane was $-1.41{\pm}2.33^{\circ}$. 4. The ala-tragus line to occlusal plane was nearly parallel, cosidering curve of spee in the upper natural teeth.

  • A theoretical model has been developed to analyze the jet-edge interaction and the sound radiation. The edge responding to the sinuous impinging jet is regarded as an array of dipoles and their strength is determined by the boundary condition on the edge surface. The surface pressure distribution and the edgeforce are estimated using these dipoles. Then the pressure amplitude and directivity of the sound field is obtained by summing the radiating sounds from the dipole sources. It is found that the effective source is located a little distance downstream from the edge tip. And the directivity of the sound radiation is cardioid pattern near the edge but dipole pattern far from the edge. The theoretical model is confirmed by comparing the theoretical prediction of the edgeforce and sound pressure level with available experimental data.

  • The objective of this study was to monitor the edge vegetation development process after timber harvesting at deciduous hardwood forest in Seoul National University Forests of Baekwoonsan(Mt), Korea. From 1994 to 1999, Woody plants were monitored on two experimental plots established in 1994. The edge vegetation development pattern during the last six years(1994-1999) after timber harvesting is summarized as follows; Weigela subsessilis, Lindera erythrocarpa, Stephanandra incisa, Zanthoxylum schinifolium appeared to be a competitive species at the harvested forest edge. Staphylea bumalda, Lindera erythrocarpa, Viburnum erosum appeared to be a competitive species at harvested forest border between the harvested forest edge and the harvested interior. Weigela subsessilis, finders erythrocarpa, Lindera obtusiloba appeared to be a competitive species at the forest interior. The mean relative important value of major species were changed along the distance from the forest edge to the forest interior and seemed to be affected by aspect, and existing woody plants. But similarity indices seemed to be affected by distance. Species composition of forest edge(0-10m) was dissimilar to that of the other forest edge(40-50m). Species diversity indices, number of species and individuals were decreased according to the distance from the forest edge to the forest interior with passing time.

  • Depth calculation of objects in a scene from images is one of the most studied processes in the fields of image processing, computer vision, and photogrammetry. Conventionally, depth is calculated using a pair of overlapped images captured at different view points. However, there have been studies to calculate depths from a single image. Theoretically, it is known to be possible to calculate depth using the diameter of CoC (Circle of Confusion) caused by defocus under the assumption of a thin lens model. Thus, this study aims to verify the validity of the thin lens model to calculate depth from edge blur amount which corresponds to the radius of CoC. For this study, a commercially available DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera was used to capture a set of target sheets which had different edge contrasts. In order to find out the pattern of the variations of edge blur against varying combination of FD (Focusing Distance) and OD (Object Distance), the camera was set to varying FD and target sheet images were captured at varying OD under each FD. Then, the edge blur and edge displacement were estimated from edge slope profiles using a brute-force method. The experimental results show that the pattern of the variations of edge blur observed in the target images was apart from their corresponding theoretical amounts derived under the thin lens assumption but can still be utilized to calculate depth from a single image for the cases similar to the limited conditions experimented under which the tendency between FD and OD is manifest.

  • Forest harvest as large scale artificial disturbance makes edge environment in both clear-cutted and forested habitat. To clarify the development and recovery process of forest edge after disturbances is essential to understand vegetation responses and landscape level consequences such as edge-distance. In Korea, after clear-cutting, edge-related changes of environment and vegetation was not clarified yet. In Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora) forest, by applying space-for-time approach (sites with undisturbed and 1, 3, 10, 16 yr after cutting), the edge-related change of plant abundance and abiotic factors were determined for 20 line-transect (60 m) and 340 ($1m{\times}5m$) quadrats, and clarified depth and duration of the disturbance. Immediately after edge formation, within 15m form the edge, biotic and abiotic factors such as cover, richness, canopy openness, temperature and moisture content exhibited larger changes compared to forest interior. Plant abundance and abiotic variables were stabilized at the level of forest inside within 16 yr and 10 yr after edge creation, respectively. Woody (tree and shrub) species generally was showed larger increment with proximity to edge than did herb or graminoid species. In addition, negative interactions between woody and herbaceous species were detected during the period of forest edge closure. Our results suggested that depth of forest edge formed by clear-cutting of Korean red pine forest was at least from 15 m to 20 m and edge effect were likely sustained more than 16 years. As the first empirical study on edge-distance between two contrast habitats of clear-cutted and adjacent forest in South Korea, the analytical reality on landscape structure and habitat patches can be improved.

  • The purposes of this study were, first, to investigate retention levels of toxic elements and oxide individual plies for each panel and, second, to examine disproportioning of individual toxic elements Thirty five water gum plywood panels were treated with a copper-chromium-arsenic preservative (CCA) by the soaking process as the treament time were applied. Such individual plies at a distance of 2.5cm, 7.5cm from the edge were assayed for CuO, $CrO_3$, and $As_2O_5$ on the basis of copper, chromium and arsenic content by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. In these experiments, 12mm thickness plywood panels made of water gum, which were selling, were selected for the preservative treatment. Treating solutions were prepared for 10%, dilute solution of copper-chromium-arsenic preservative and then 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours soaking trements in CCA preservative were applied. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The retention of total oxide in the face and back plies (1+7) retained more than the retention of total oxide in the other plies. The total oxide retention for the individual plies except the face and back plies (1+7) was showed in the following orders; cross plies (3+5), cross plies (2+6), core ply (4). 2. The retentions of total oxide increased as the increase of treatment time. The CCA treated plywood retained high levels of total oxide retention in the face and back plies (1+7). 3. All the retentions in the face and back plies (1+7) is over 5Kg/$m^3$, New Zealand Timber Preservation Standards Specification, and after 6 hours, the retentions in the cross plies (3+5) is over 4. The relative penetration of copper, chromium, and arsenic were not affected by the treatment time. The proportion of arsenic decreased in relation to both copper and chromium and the proportion of copper increased in relation to both chromium and arsenic. 5. A disproportioning of copper, chromium occurred with longer distance from edge, and with longer distance from edge the leachability resistance of CCA treated specimens decreased. After 6 hours (soaking time), the proportion of active elements at a distance of 2.5cm from the edge was consistent. And after 24 hours-soaking, the proportion of active elements at a distance of 7.5cm from the edge was consistent.

  • The phase criterion of the feedback cycle of low-speed edgetones has been obtained using the jet-edge interaction model which is based on the substitution of an array of dipoles for the reaction of the wedge to the impinging jet. The edgetone is produced by the feedback loop between the downstream-convected sinuous disturbance and upstream-propagating waves generated by the impingement of the disturbance on the wedge. By estimation of the phase difference between the downstream and the upstream disturbances, the relationship between the edge distance and the wavelength is obtained according to the phase-locking condition at the nozzle lip. With a little variation depending on the characteristics of jet-edge interaction, the criterion can be approximated as follows: h/.LAMBDA. + h/.lambda. = n - 1/4, where h is the stand-off distance between the nozzle lip and the edge tip, .LAMBDA. is the wavelength of downstream-convected wave, .lambda. is the wavelength of the upstream-propagating acoustic wave and n is the stage number for the ladder-like characteristics of frequency. The present criterion has been confirmed by estimating wavelengths from available experimental data and investigating their appropriateness. The above criterion has been found to be effective up to 90.deg. of wedge angle corresponding to the cavitytones.

  • This paper proposes a hierarchical Hausdorff distance (HD) matching algorithm baased on coarse-to-fine approach. It reduces the computational complexity greatly by using the pyramidal structures consisting of distance transform (DT) and edge pyramids. Also, inthe proposed hierarchical HD matching, a thresholding method is presented to find an optimal matching position with small error, in which the threshold values are determined by using the property between adjacent level of a DT map pyramid. By computer simulation, the performance of the conventional and proposed hierarchical HD matching algorithms is compared in therms of the matching position for binary images containing uniform noise.

  • A new variant of vertex edge domination, namely semi total vertex edge domination has been introduced in the present paper. A subset S of the vertex set V of a graph G is said to be a semi total vertex edge dominating set(stved - set), if it is a vertex edge dominating set of G and each vertex in S is within a distance two of another vertex in S. An stved-set of G having minimum cardinality is said to be an γstve(G)- set and its cardinality is denoted by γstve(G). Bounds for γstve(G) - set have been given in terms of various graph theoretic parameters and graphs attaining the bounds have been characterized. In particular, bounds for trees have been obtained and extremal trees have been characterized.

  • To investigate edge vegetation structure and edge species in Chiak Mountain National Park, field survey was executed from July to September, 1988. Canonpy drip-line type, cantilevered type and advancing type of edge vegetation were observed on site. The relative importance values of major species in each crown layer were changed along distance from edge to forest interior differently by aspect and present tree layer vegetation. Especially light-oriented edge species as codominant species were observed in Pinus densiflora forest interior at south slope and moisture - oriented species as codominant species were observed with light-oriented species in north edge beside torrential stream. No. of species and individuals by crown layer, species diversities and dissimilarities were decreased according to the distance from edge to forest interior, and edge depth was estimated as 15-20m. Dominant species of edge in shrub and ground layer were different by altitude and topographic locations; valley, ridge, summit and edge species at summit were not observed at other area. Floristic similarities between edge vegetations at different environments were affected by altitude, aspect and topographic location. Frequency classes of edge species were different by aspect, altitude and topographic location. Weigela subscssilis showed high frequency class in all environment conditions and Quercus mongolica, Lindera obtusiloba, Symplocos chinensis for, pilosa, weigela subscssilis, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Actinidia arguta, Rubus crategifolius. Pinus densiflora, Aralia elata etc, were observed as edge species at all environmental conditions, respectively.
