Cracking is an inevitable fact of asphalt concrete pavements and plays a major role in pavement deterioration. Pavement cracking is one of the main factors determining the frequency and method of repair. Cracks can be treated with a number of preventative maintenance actions, including overlay surface treatments such as slurry sealing, crack sealing, or crack filling. Pavement cracks can show up as one or all of the following types: transverse, longitudinal, fatigue, block, reflective, edge, and slippage. Crack sealing is a frequently used pavement maintenance treatment because it significantly extends the pavement service life. However, crack sealant often fails prematurely due to a loss of adhesion. Because current test methods are mostly empirical and only provide a qualitative measure of the bond strength, they cannot accurately predict the adhesive failure of the sealant. This study introduces a laboratory test aimed at assessing the bonding of hot-poured crack sealant to the walls of pavement cracks. A pneumatic adhesion tensile testing instrument (PATTI) was adopted to measure the bonding strength of the hot-poured crack sealant as a function of the curing time and temperature. Based on a limited number of test results, the hot-poured crack sealants have very different bonding performances. Therefore, this test method can be proposed as part of a newly developed performance-based standard specification for hot-poured crack sealants for use in the future. PURPOSES : The purpose of this study was to evaluate both the adhesion and failure performance of a crack sealant as a function of its curing time and curing temperature. METHODS: A pneumatic adhesion tensile testing instrument (PATTI) was adopted to measure the adhesion performance of a crack sealant as a function of the curing time and curing temperature. RESULTS: With changes in the curing time, curing temperature, and sealant type, the bond strengths were found to be significantly different. Also, higher bond strengths were measured at lower temperatures. Different sealant types produced completely different bond strengths and failure behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: The bonding strength of an evaluated crack sealant was shown to differ depending on various factors. Two sealant types, which were composed of different raw materials, were shown to perform differently. The newly proposed test offers the possibility of evaluating and differentiating between different crack sealants. Based on alimited number of test results, this test method can be proposed as part of a newly developed performance-based standard specification for crack sealants or as part of a guideline for the selection of hot-poured crack sealant in the future.
This paper presents the image contrast enhancement technique suitable for local dimming backlight of small-sized mobile display while achieving the reduction of the power consumption. In addition to the large-sized TFT-LCD, small-sized one has adopted LED for backlight. Since, conventionally, LED was mounted on the side edge of a display panel, global dimming method has been widely used. However, recently, new advanced method of local dimming by placing the LED to the backside of the display panel and it raised the necessity of sub-blocked processing after partitioning the target image. When the sub-blocked image has low brightness, the supply current of a backlight LED is reduced, which gives both enhancement of contrast ratio and power consumption reduction. In this paper, we propose simple and improved image enhancement algorithm suitable for the small-sized mobile display. After partitioning the input image by equal sized blocks and analyzing the pixel information in each block, we realize the primary contrast enhancement by independently processing the sub-blocks using the information such as histogram, mean, and standard deviation values of luminance(Y) component. And then resulting information is transferred to each backlight control unit for local dimming to realize the secondary contrast enhancement as well as reduction of power consumption.

Objectives: To completely excise a malignant tumor which invades carotid artery walls, the resection and reconstruction of the carotid artery is essentially required. In most of the cases, interposition graft using a saphenous vein has been performed, however the vessel caliber discrepancy between a common carotid artery and the saphenous vein can result in a problem on surgical technique. We have introduced and evaluated a new titanium hemoclip tailing method to overcome vessel caliber discrepancy in interposition saphenous vein graft for carotid artery resection in the treatment of head and neck cancers. Method: After carotid artery resection, the calibers of the proximal common carotid artery and the vein were compared, and an orifice of the common carotid artery was gradually reduced to a little larger than or the same size as the orifice of the vein by using the titanium hemostatic clip. Subsequently, the common carotid artery was connected to the vein through anastomosis. The same method was also applied to the distal anastomosis site. There after, the vessels were connected through the anastomosis, and a circulation was restored by releasing a vascular clamp. Then, a titanium hemostatic clip-applied redundant portion on the outside of carotid artery was sutured by the blanket edge suture method, using 6-0 Prolene. Results: We have experienced this method in two patients with recurrent squamous cell carcinoma and neuroblostoma, respectively. The interposition saphenous vein graft of these patients was found to maintain good patency on the follow up angiography after one year, and they had no specific vascular complication, such as atherosclerosis. Conclusion: This method made it possible to simply perform the interposition saphenous vein graft (ISVG) within a short time and, therefore, was very useful for shortening the duration to block circulation.

An 8$\times$8+20-bit MAC is designed with low power design methodologies at each of the system design levels. At algorithm level, a new method for multipl $y_tract operation is proposed, and it saves the transistor counts over conventional methods in hardware realization. A new Booth selector circuit using NMOS pass-transistor logic is also proposed at circuit level. It is superior to other circuits designed by CMOS in power-delay-product. And at architecture level, we adopted an ELM adder that is known to be the most efficient in power consumption, operating frequency, area and design regularity as the final adder. For registers, dynamic CMOS single-edge triggered flip-flops are used because they need less transistors per bit. To increase the operating frequency 2-stage pipeline architecture is adopted, and fast 4:2 compressors are applied in Wallace tree block. As a simulation result, the designed MAC in 0.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ 1-poly 3-metal CMOS process is operated at 200MHz, 3.3V and consumed 35㎽ of power in multiply operation, and operated at 100MHz consuming 29㎽ in MAC operations, respectively.ly.

This paper describes a design of 5-stage pipelined de-blocking filter with power reduction scheme and proposes a efficient memory architecture and filter order for high performance H.264/AVC Decoder. Generally the de-blocking filter removes block boundary artifacts and enhances image quality. Nevertheless filter has a few disadvantage that it requires a number of memory access and iterated operations because of filter operation for 4 time to one edge. So this paper proposes a optimized filter ordering and efficient hardware architecture for the reduction of memory access and total filter cycles. In proposed filter parallel processing is available because of structured 5-stage pipeline consisted of memory read, threshold decider, pre-calculation, filter operation and write back. Also it can reduce power consumption because it uses a clock gating scheme which disable unnecessary clock switching. Besides total number of filtering cycle is decreased by new filter order. The proposed filter is designed with Verilog-HDL and functionally verified with the whole H.264/AVC decoder using the Modelsim 6.2g simulator. Input vectors are QCIF images generated by JM9.4 standard encoder software. As a result of experiment, it shows that the filter can make about 20% total filter cycles reduction and it requires small transposition buffer size.

This paper proposes a defective pixel detection algorithm and its hardware structure for CCD/CMOS image sensor. In previous algorithms, the characteristics of image have not been considered. Also, some algorithms need quite a time to detect defective pixels. In order to make up for those disadvantages, the proposed defective pixel detection method detects defective pixels efficiently by considering the edges in the image and verifies them using several frames while checking scene-changes. Whenever scene-change is occurred, potentially defective pixels are checked and confirmed whether it is defective or not. Test results showed that the correct detection rate in a frame was increased 6% and the defective pixel verification time was decreased 60%. The proposed algorithm was implemented with verilog HDL. The edge indicator in color interpolation block was reused. Total logic gate count was 5.4k using 0.25um CMOS standard cell library.
The region, near the edge of a radiation beam, where the dose changes rapidly according to the distance from the beam axis is known as the penumbra. There is a sharp dose gradient zone even in megavoltage photon beams due to source size, collimator, lead alloy block, other accessories, and internal scatter ray. We investigate dosimetric characteristics on penumbra regions of a standard collimator and compare to those of theoritical model for the optimal use of the system in radiotherapy. Peripheral dose distribution of 6 W Photon beams represents penumbral forming function as the depth. Also we have discussed that the peripheral dose distribution of clinical photon beams, differences between calculation dose use of emperical penumbral forming function and measurements in penumbral region. Predictions by emperical penumbral forming functions are compared with measurements in 3-dimensional water phantom and it is shown that the method is capable of reproduceing the measured peripheral dose values usually to within the statistical uncertainties of the data. The semiconductor detector and ion chamber were positioned at a dmax depth, 5cm depth, 10cm depth, and its specific ratio was determined using a scanning data. The effective penumbra, the distance from 80% to 20% isodose lines were analyzed as a function of the distance. The extent of penumbra will also expand with depth increase. Difference of measurement value and model functions value according to character of the detector show small error in dose distribution of the peripheral dose.
In this paper, we propose the development of nitrogen cooling equipment for personalized local area. The proposed equipment consists of a cold air supply module, a body, and nitrogen injection with the following characteristics. First, it automatically controls the amount and time of cold air supply by utilizing information measuring skin temperature with volumetric temperature sensors, so it can have a competitive edge in function by ensuring complete safety. Second, if the distance measuring sensor is applied to the skin for more than a certain distance, it can block the cold air or control the discharge of nitrogen in conjunction with the control GUI to improve the efficiency of higher cooling therapy while providing safe management. Third, by installing a control module that can control the supply of nitrogen, the cost of maintenance can be minimized by minimizing the loss of nitrogen. Experiments at an external testing agency to evaluate the performance of the proposed equipment showed that the accuracy of the temperature sensor was measured in the range of ±3.8%, which is lower than the world's highest level(±5%), with a range of 110℃ to -160℃ similar to the world's highest level. Distance accuracy was measured in the range of ±3.0%, lower than the world's highest level(±5%), and weight accuracy in the range of ±0.1%, lower than the world's highest level(±5%). In addition, emission control was measured in four stages, higher than the world's highest level(stage 1) and nitrogen use was measured at 0.8L/min below the world's highest(6L/min). Therefore, the effectiveness of the methods proposed in this paper was demonstrated because they produced the same results as the world's highest levels.

Today, a digital airborne imaging sensor plays an important role in construction of the numerous National Spatial Data Infrastructure. However, an appropriate quality assesment procedure for the acquired digital images should be preceded to make them useful data with high precision and reliability. A lot of studies therefore have been conducted in attempt to assess quality of digital images at home and abroad. In this regard, many test fields have been already established and operated to calibrate digital photogrammetric airborne imaging systems in Europe and America. These test fields contain not only GCPs(Ground Control Points) to test geometric performance of a digital camera but also various types of targets to evaluate its spatial and radiometric resolution. The purpose of this paper is to present a method to verify the spatial resolution of the Intergraph DMC digital camera and its results based on an experimental field testing. In field test, a simple bar target to be easily identified in image is used to check the spatial resolution. Images, theoretically designed to 12cm GSD(Ground Sample Distance), were used to calculate the actual resolution for all sub-images and virtual images in flight direction as well as in cross flight direction. The results showed that the actual image resolution was about 0.6cm worse than theoretically expected resolution. In addition, the greatest difference of 1.5cm between them was found in the image of block edge.
Painterly animation is a method that expresses painterly images with a hand-painted appearance from a video, and the most crucial element for it is the temporal coherence of brush strokes between frames. A motion map is proposed in this paper as a solution to the issue of maintaining the temporal coherence in the brush strokes between the frames. A motion map is the region that frame-to-frame motions have occurred. Namely, this map refers to the region frame-to-frame edges move by the motion information with the motion occurred edges as a starting point. In this paper, we employ the optical flow method and block-based method to estimate the motion information. The method that yielded the biggest PSNR using the motion information (the directions and magnitudes) acquired by various methods of motion estimation has been chosen as the final motion information to form a motion map. The created motion map determine the part of the frame that should be re-painted. In order to express painterly images with a hand- painted appearance and maintain the temporal coherence of brush strokes, the motion information was applied to only the strong edges that determine the directions of the brush strokes. Also, this paper seek to reduce the flickering phenomenon between the frames by using the multiple exposure method and the difference map created by the difference between images of the source and the canvas. Maintenance of the coherence in the direction of the brush strokes was also attempted by a local gradient interpolation to maintain the structural coherence.
