Renewable Energy Consumption and Economic Growth in China

  • Environmental pollution is becoming more and more serious, and people gradually realize the harmfulness of environmental pollution, so they pay more and more attention to environmental problems. Also, the conflict between environmental issues and economic growth, and the renewable energy consumption is increasing. The emergence of renewable energy in China has improved the problem of energy shortages and further protects the environment. This article studied the renewable energy resources and the status quo of development and utilization, examined China's renewable energy development countermeasures and suggestions, and conducted an empirical analysis of the effect of renewable energy on economic growth in China. The empirical research concluded that energy consumption and renewable energy consumption have a positive and significant impact on economic growth, and the driving effect of traditional energy on GDP growth is still greater than the driving effect of renewable energy on GDP growth.

육상운송산업 성장의 광역권 경제성장에 대한 효과 분석 (Effect of Land Transport Industry Growth on Economic Growth in Korean Metropolitan Regions)

  • This study aims to identify the effect of growth of the land transportation industry on economic growth and to provide implications for Korea's metropolitan region policy. The effect of each metropolitan region on the integrated region where each metropolitan region is integrated is as follows. First, The integrated region where each metropolitan region was integrated with the Southeast region and the Daegyeong region had the greatest economic growth effect due to the growth of the land transportation industry in terms of value added, but the effect of the integrated region with the Chungcheong region was the least. In the case of capital such as roads, the integrated metropolitan regions with the Chungcheong region showed the greatest economic effect. However, the impact of the integrated regions with Jeolla region and the Seoul metropolitan region is insignificant. These results suggest that the synergy effect of metropolitan regional integration by spillover effect such as networks should be considered in the land transportation industry policy.

  • General aspect of marine ranching programme in Korea was introduced. It contains the status of Korean fisheries industry, background and the scope of ranching project being conducted by KORDI since 1996. Long term plan for the marine ranching programme as a national project is also introduced including socio-economic analysis of project as well as economic impact of investment.

  • The Maglav system project affects communities and are usually funded by public agencies. Evaluation of this project that considerably impact whole communities requires public involvement. This specific requirement of transportation projects determines the method of their evaluation as the impacts are estimated from the transportation economic point of view. Especially evaluation criteria must reflect the needs of the interested parties and should consider all foreseeable benefits and losses caused by the Maglav project. To select evaluation criteria and evaluation method may help a decision--maker in making a best selection for a Maglav project.

Eco-efficiency Analysis of Organic Agriculture in Korea

  • Eco-efficiency which is calculated by dividing economic productivity by the environmental load was made by synthesizing eco and efficiency from ecology and economy, proposed by World Business Council for Sustainable Development in 2000. Eco-efficiency by connection of resource efficiency with resource intensity is used as an indicator for evaluating green growth for minimizing the impact on the environment and achieving economic development as well by means of efficient use of resources. This research analyzes eco-efficiency with the case of organic agriculture promoted as a key green growth policy. Thirty questionnaires for farmers producing organic rice in Hongseong-gun, Choongcheongnam-do were used for the analysis. Eco-efficiency was measured by means of the amount of used nitrogen with respect to the amount of income, and was represented that organic agriculture was 32.0 higher than conventional agriculture. The analytical result of technical efficiency, using the (Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model showed that it is 0.765 which has a possibility of 21% in management improvement, and higher eco-efficiency was with higher technical efficiency. The analytical results showed that an organic agriculture contributes to green growth more than conventional agriculture. In addition, higher technical efficiency groups exhibited higher eco-efficiency indices.

  • Purpose: It suggests that in order to compare economic development between large cities, this paper aims to exclude factors such as GDP, trade, manpower, R&D, then present newly an analysis of others (inflation, exports, middle-class, competitiveness, digital). Research design, data, and methodology: In the period of rapid digitalization of the world, we would like to deal with different analysis factors than before. This is because digitalization and prices have the greatest impact on the region in terms of national competitiveness. Random sampling was used as the sample size of this study to generate various values for the annual income of the middle class and the competitiveness index, and the analysis method was used. This is because the income of the middle class can lead the digitalization of the country and accelerate it to standardization. Results: Based on these analysis, it is necessary to reduce the inflation rate of digitalization, it is necessary to lower inflation rates. This can be more fundamental than interest rates. If the demand for digitalization is reduced, national competitiveness, national competitiveness will lower national competitiveness. By building a hub for middle class, you can reduce this inflation rate without China's oversupply. Conclusion: This is because it is difficult to maintain competitiveness through interest rate control, as prices rise, and inflation can become unstable. This study can seek digital acceptance by the middle class as a solution to problems like the regional economic confrontation of new globalization inflation environment.

동태 글로벌 CGE 모형을 활용한 정책 포트폴리오의 Post-2012 경제적 파급효과 분석 (An Economic Impact Analysis of the Post-2012 Policy Portfolio, Utilizing the Global Dynamic CGE Model)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 Post-2012 의무부담에 대한 경제적 파급효과 분석을 위해 글로벌 동태연산기능일반균형모형(Global Dynamic Computable General Equilibrium Model : Global CGE Model)을 개발하는 것이다. 즉, 본 모형을 통해 우리나라의 의무부담 증가에 따라서 국제 배출권거래시장과 GNP, 소비, 투자, 수 출입 등 거시경제 변수들에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고자 한다. 기존 연구와는 달리 본 모형은 전 세계를 주요 경제그룹으로 나누어 분석한 글로벌모형으로서 주요 국가의 거시경제지표를 모두 반영하고 있으며, 이론적으로는 내생적 경제성장이론을 적용하고, 정책적으로는 배출권거래제도와 탄소세 등을 반영하고 있다. 특히 외생적인 기술진보를 모형에 반영하였다. 본 분석에 의하면, 온실가스 감축이 강화될수록 경제에 미치는 악영향이 커진다는 것을 알 수 있으며 거시경제지표 중에 무역수지의 감소가 가장 크게 나타나고 그 다음으로 투자 소비의 감소율이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 특히 산업별로는 에너지 의존도가 큰 에너지 다소비 업종일수록 온실가스 감축 영향이 크게 나타난다. 그리고 현재 개발도상국의 지위를 부여받고 있는 한국이 온실가스 감축 의무부담을 받으면 상대적으로 중국 등 다른 개발도상국들은 이득을 본다.

  • 최근 항공자유화의 주요 변화는 미국 중심의 양자간 항공자유화와 소지역적 다자간 협정 체제의 성립이다. 소지역적 다자간 항공운송협력은 서로 마음이 맞는 국가들간에 기존의 양자간 항공 협정 체제에 근거하는 것이며 각국은 항공운송산업의 발전을 도모하기 위하여 시장접근 및 운수권에 대한 규제와 제한을 완화하고 역내의 자유로운 항공교통을 실현하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 지역적 항공운송협력의 배경과 실태를 살펴보고 항공자유화의 추진 결과 경제적으로 얻을 수 있는 효과를 예상하고자 아시아에 위치하면서 미국과 항공자유화 협정을 체결한 싱가포르를 대상으로 항공자유화 정책의 경제적 효과를 산업연관분석을 통하여 연구를 행하였다.

단말기보조금의 경제적 파급효과에 대한 산업연관분석 (The Estimation of the Economic Impact of Handset Subsidies Using Input-Output Tables)

  • 이 연구에서는 이동통신사가 지급하는 이동통신 단말기보조금의 경제적 파급효과를 산업연관분석을 통해 파악하고 이동통신사가 취할 수 있는 다른 두 가지 대안과 비교하였다. 첫째 시나리오는 이동통신사가 단말기보조금을 지급하는 경우이다. 둘째는 이동통신사가 단말기보조금을 소비자에게 지급하지 않고 그 금액만큼을 이동통신 설비투자에 사용하는 경우이다. 셋째는 이동통신사가 단말기보조금만큼 이동통신서비스 요금을 인하하고 소비자가 이 요금인하분을 일반 재화 및 서비스 소비에 활용하는 경우이다. 이러한 세가지 시나리오를 분석한 결과 단말기보조금을 지급할 경우의 생산 부가가치 수입 취업 고용유발효과가 둘째와 셋째 시나리오에 비해 비교적 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 그 이유는 단말기보조금 지급은 단말기 수요 증가를 가져오는데 이는 다른 시나리오에 비하여 생산 및 수입유발효과가 크기 때문이다. 또한 단말기보조금은 이동통신 서비스 대리점 등 유통업체의 인센티브로 귀착되는데 유통업의 부가가치, 취업 및 고용유발효과 또한 타 시나리오의 그것보다 더 크기 때문에 이러한 결과가 나타난 것으로 보인다.

An Analysis of Macro Aspects Caused by Protectionism in Korea

  • Purpose - The global trend of protectionism has expanded since the onset of US President Donald Trump's administration in 2017. This global phenomenon has led to a significant reduction in world trade volume and a negative impact on economic development in some countries where the external sector accounts for a large proportion of GDP. Although Korea is a country vulnerable to this deteriorating trade environment, few studies have examined the relationship between protectionism and its business cycles based on Korean data. Thus, this paper investigates the impact of protectionism on Korea's business cycle. Design/methodology - To identify future implications, we conduct a structural vector autoregression (VAR) analysis using monthly Korean data from 1994 to 2015. Macroeconomic variables in the model include the industrial production index, inflation rates, exports (or net exports), interest rates, and exchange rates. For the identification of the shock reflecting the expansion of protectionism, we use an antidumping investigation (ADI) data. Since ADIs are followed generally by the imposition of antidumping tariffs, they have no contemporaneous impact on tariffs and are also contemporaneously exogenous to other endogenous variables in the VAR model. We examine two kinds of ADI shocks i) shocks on Korean exports imposed by Korea's trading partners (ADI-imposed shocks) and ii) shocks on imports imposed by the Korean government (ADI-imposing shocks). Findings - We find that Korea's exports decline sharply due to ADI-imposed shocks; the lowest point at the third month after the initial shock; and do not recover until 24 months later. Simultaneously, the inflation rate decreases. Therefore, the ADI-imposed shock can be regarded as a negative shock on the demand curve where both production and price decrease. In contrast, the ADI-imposing shock generates a different response. The net exports decline, but the inflation rate increases. These can be seen as standard responses with respect to the negative shock on the supply curve. Originality/value - We shed light on the relationship between protectionism and Korea's economic fluctuations, which is rarely addressed in previous studies. We also consider the effects of both protective policy measures on imports to Korea imposed by the Korean government and on policy measures imposed by Korea's trading partner countries on its exports.
