  • The structural anisotropy and heterogeneity of rock mass, caused by discontinuities and weak zones, have a great influence on the deformation behavior of tunnel. Tunnel construction in these complex ground conditions is very difficult. No matter how excellent a geological investigation is, local uncertainties of rock mass conditions still remain. Under these uncertain circumstances, an accurate forecast of the ground conditions ahead of the advancing tunnel face is indispensable to safe and economic tunnel construction. This paper presents the effect of anisotropy and heterogeneity of the rock masses to be excavated by numerical analysis. The influences of distance from weak zone, the size or dimension, the different stiffness and the orientation of weak zones are analysedby 2-D and 3-D finite element analysis. By analysing these numerical results, the tunnel behavior due to excavation can be well understood and the prediction of rock mass condition ahead of tunnel face can be possible.

  • The purpose of this research was to find out the housing history of Sakhalin returnees since leaving hometown under the Japanese ruling period. Face to face interview had been done with 20 returnees in the community center during October to December, 2008. Personal life as well as housing histories were differed by the reason to move into Sakhalin, which still influenced the returnee' life in Ansan. The housing they had lived changed from barracks like a training camp, to Japanese small wooden cottage/row house, and then Russian brick house/apartment. Housing alteration and addition were common to renew the old house. The boundary of residing area was mostly limited to the first residing location throughout one's life without a long distance move. Housing satisfaction was very high in Gohyangmaeul because of the improvement of housing facilities and residence itself as well as convenience of housing management compared to the residence in Sakhalin. Economic and emotional aspect of life satisfaction were also high through about 8 years of living in. Forced movers still require the compensation on hand no matter the amount.

  • HTS transformer experimentally. High temperature superconductors can only be applied against an engineering specification that has to be determined for each particular application form the design requirements for economic viability and for operation margins in service. High temperature superconducting(HTS) power apparatus are very promising candidates for application. Especially, these advantages make superconducting transformers very promising candidates for application in electrical power engineering and locomotives. In order to realize the HTS transformer, it is necessary to establish the high voltage insulation technique in cryogenic temperature. So far, insulation research of Pancake type HTS transformer is lacking nothing but insulation research of . solenoid type transformer consisted. Therefore, the composite insulation of double pancake coil type transformer are described and ac breakdown voltage characteristics of liquid nitrogen(LN$_2$) under HTS pancake coil electrode made by Bi-2223/Ag are studied. Breakdown in LN$_2$ is dominated electrode shape and distance. The relation between surface flashover voltage is considered for FRP. This research presented basis information of electrical insulation design for double pancake coil type HTS transformer.

  • Recently the ductile cast iron is being used successfully to the parts for processing machinery vessels and gear etc. This study is mainly concerned with the heat treatment for the specimens of crank shaft which are made of ductile cast iron. The results obtained are summarized as follows. Comparing the mechanical properties of the specimens for the normalized ductile cast irons the specimen heat treated at $550^{\circ}C$ was the best for crank shaft of air-compressor. After austenizing at $910^{\circ}C$ it was observed that the higher the reheating temperature is the less tensile strength and the hardness became which was supposedly attributed to the fact that the amount of pearlite. Austenite matrix was reduced by reheating after normalizing and that as the reheating tem-perature went up the pearlite generated was less and the distance between the pearlites were widened at last made pearlite globular. In the comparsison of crank shaft for air compressor made of ductile cast iron with that made by forged steel the crank shaft made of ductile cast iron was superior in economical terms. And ductile cast iron could be practically enough if only the elonga-tion which was inferior mechanical property to forged steel could be reinforced by increasing the diameter of crank pin when designing the crank shaft.

  • Native duck populations have lower productivity, and have not been developed as much as commercials duck breeds. However, native ducks have more importance in terms of genetic diversity and potentially valuable economic traits. For this reason, population discriminable genetic markers are needed for conservation and development of native ducks. In this study, 24 highly polymorphic microsatellite (MS) markers were investigated using commercial ducks and native East and South Asian ducks. The average polymorphic information content (PIC) value for all MS markers was 0.584, indicating high discrimination power. All populations were discriminated using 14 highly polymorphic MS markers by genetic distance and phylogenetic analysis. The results indicated that there were close genetic relationships among populations. In the structure analysis, East Asian ducks shared more haplotypes with commercial ducks than South Asian ducks, and they had more independent haplotypes than others did. These results will provide useful information for genetic diversity studies in ducks and for the development of duck traceability systems in the market.

  • Background: Breast cancer is a common cancer affecting women in Malaysia and the use of complementary/alternative medicine (CAM) has been associated with delays in getting treatment. The aim of the study was to explore the use of CAM and the influencing factors in the Northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study on a convenience sample of 100 Malaysian breast cancer survivors. Findings: The reported use of CAM among the breast cancer survivors was lower than in other studies but the types of CAM used had a similar pattern with nutrition supplements/vitamins being the most common. The factors that positively influenced the use of complimentary/traditional therapy were income and getting information from television or radio. Survivors with access to internet/blogs appear to have lower odds of using complimentary/traditional therapy compared to the respondents who reported no such access. Conclusions: Information transmitted via television and radio appears to have a positive influence on CAM use by breast cancer patients compared to other information sources and it is important to ensure that such information is accurate and impartial.

  • The study investigates the factors that affect Kyrgyzstan's bilateral trade flows with its main trading partners and attempts to predict trade potential for Kyrgyzstan. Using panel data, the gravity model is applied to estimate Kyrgyzstan's trade from 2000 to 2016 for its 35 main trading partners. The coefficients derived from the gravity-model estimation are then used to predict trade potential for Kyrgyzstan. Results proved to be successful and explained 63% of the fluctuations in Kyrgyzstan's trade. According to the results, Kyrgyzstan's and its partners' GDP have a positive effect on trade, while distance and partners' population prove to have a negative effect. Predicted trade potential reveals that neighboring countries (China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan) and Russia still have a significant trade potential. Kyrgyzstan, being a less developed economy, even by Central Asia standards, can only achieve its goals of reducing poverty and becoming more developed by increasing its overall trade with the rest of the world. Therefore, it is essential to study the main determinants of Kyrgyzstan's bilateral trade. In this way, we can help policy makers formulate policies to expand Kyrgyzstan's trade. This study is the first attempt to apply to the gravity model to Kyrgyzstan in an attempt to predict trade potential.

  • A simplified view of array design and application process was introduced. Array design is critical to achieve a successful phased array measurements. A planar microphone array is designed to produce optimum performance and also to fit economic requirement in integrating data acquisition system. Certain performance characteristics are of primary concern when designing arrays. These characteristics include array resolution, spatial aliasing and array sidelobe suppression. Every array has its directional pattern that shows such characteristics. Assuming that a monopole source is located in center, beam-patterns have been simulated varying measurement conditions such as number of sensors. array aperture size, distance between array and source, frequency of interest and so on. Sensor correction was conducted on very channel using magnitudes and phased of FRF with respect to a reference microphone channel. Then with a spiral type array, measurements have been made with two point sources of same frequency in order to investigate array resolving abilities. It is observed that higher frequency source achieves better resolution than lower one does.
