통영연안 표층퇴적물에서의 유기물과 미량금속 분포 특성 및 생태위해성 평가 (Distribution of Organic Matter and Trace Metals in Surface Sediments and Ecological Risk Assessment in the Tongyeong Coast)

  • 본 연구는 통영연안의 오염 현황을 파악하기 위하여 표층퇴적물의 유기물 분포 특성, 미량금속의 공간적인 분포 특성과 오염도 및 생태계 위해성평가를 하였다. 총질소(Total nitrogen, TN), 총유기탄소(Total organic carbon, TOC)와 산 휘발성 황화물(Acid volatile sulfide, AVS)은 협수로에 위치한 정점 35-38에서 높은 농도를 나타내었다. Cd, Cr, Ni, Co, Hg, Zn의 공간적 분포양상은 유사하였으며, 이와 달리 Cu는 협수로에서 높은 농도를 나타내었다. 미량금속 원소의 오염도를 농축계수(Enrichment Factor, EF)로 평가한 결과, Cd이 모든 정점에서 오염되지 않은 상태(No enrichment), Pb, Cr, Ni, Co, Zn, Hg이 약간 오염상태(Minor enrichment), Cu가 약간~중간 오염상태(minor-moderate enrichment)의 오염도를 나타냈다. 미량금속에 의한 생태위해성 수준은 오비도와 미륵도 사이의 협수로 정점에서 국지적으로 생태계에 잠재적 위해성이 있는 것으로 나타났다.

  • Competitive species have the same spatial distribution (habitat) and foraging behavior (niche), while non-competitive species have either different feeding behavior or spatial distribution. Therefore, ecological segregation among species of fish results rfom differences in foraging behavior and spatial distribution (Allen, 1984; Zhang 1988).   • We examined the evolutionary and ecological processes shaping current geographical distributions of a Korean wood-eating cockroach species, Cryptocercus kyebangensis. Our research aims were to understand evolutionary pattern of DNA sequences, to construct genetic network of Cryptocercus kyebangensis local populations and to understand evolutionary and ecological processes shaping their current geographical distribution patterns via DNA sequence information and genetic networks, using sequence data of two genes (ITS-2 and AT region) from local populations of C. kyebangensis. The results suggest that the ITS-2 and AT region are appropriate molecular markers for elucidating C. kyebangensis geographic patterns at the population level. The MSN-A based on the ITS-2 showed two possible routes, the Hwaak-san and Myeongji-san route and the Seorak-san and Gyebang-san route, for migration of ancestral C. kyebangensis into South Korea. The MSNs (MSN-A and -B) elucidate migration routes well within South Korea, especially the route of Group I and Group II.

  • Ordination and classification techiques were used to analyze the forest communities and to examine the integration problem of community-to-ecological species group in mt. moak provincial park of korea. phytosociological classiication based on floristic composition produced seven commuities of zelkova serrata, carpinus densiflora. These seven communities were well discriminated in the two-dimensional analyses of soil moisture, soil organic matter content and temperature(elevation), eciprocally, and in three-dimensional space of the three environmental factors also. They corresponded to seven ecological groups derived from the distribution pattern analysis of species populations in this mountain.

  • Parameter identification problem of a three species (predator, mutualist-prey, and mutualist) ecological system with reaction-diffusion phenomenon is investigated in this paper. The mathematical model of the parameter identification problem is constructed and continuous dependence of the solution for the direct problem on the parameters identified is obtained. Finally, the existence of optimal solution and an optimality necessary condition for the parameter identification problem are given.

경관생태지표를 활용한 생태마을계획 원리 (Principles of Eco-Village Planning Applying Landscape Ecological Indices)

  • The purpose of this study is the practical application of landscape ecological indices to establishment of eco-village planning methodology. Planning an eco-village has to be carried out in the boundary of a small watershed that is defined by homogeneous ecological character. Because the small watershed is a landscape unit it can have unique ecological character. On this viewpoint, the spatial structure is analyzed by the ecological attributes of form, distribution arrangement and composition of the sub-landscape units. Among all of the sub-landscape units, a green tract of land is the main subject of the analyzing entity. Woodland or forest as a green tract of land is a source of biological species and materials. Therefore the ecological attributes of green patches are especially analyzed by landscape ecological indices. The selected landscape ecological indices are elongation, lobes, interior area ratio, convolution of perimeter and proximity of the green patches. These indices represent the state of ecological conditions and they will be the evaluation factors of the landscape ecological planning. These frameworks for landscape ecological planning apply to Obok and Ganggeum villages in Wanju-gun, Korea. A proposed planning was evaluated by the selected landscape ecological indices. Among the selected landscape ecological indices of green patches, perimeter convolution and proximity were increased. It means that the ecological condition of peen paches will be mon sound and green areas of the village will be expanded naturally. In addition to this connectivities among green patches will also be improved.

Determining the Effect of Green Spaces on Urban Heat Distribution Using Satellite Imagery

  • Urbanization has led to a reduction in green spaces and thus transformed the spatial pattern of urban land use. An increase in air temperature directly affects forest vegetation, phenology, and biodiversity in urban areas. In this paper, we analyze the changing land use patterns and urban heat distribution (UHD) in Seoul on the basis of a spatial assessment. It is necessary to monitor and assess the functions of green spaces in order to understand the changes in the green space. In addition, we estimated the influence of green space on urban temperature using Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) imagery and climatic data. Results of the assessment showed that UHD differences cause differences in temperature variation and the spatial extent of temperature reducing effects due to urban green space. The ratio of urban heat area to green space cooling area increases rapidly with increasing distance from a green space boundary. This shows that urban green space plays an important role for mitigating urban heating in central areas. This study demonstrated the importance of green space by characterizing the spatiotemporal variations in temperature associated with urban green spaces.

A Review of Ecological and Natural Map Grades and Public Appeals in Korea

  • This study surveyed the changes in the proportion of Ecological and Natural Map (ENM) grades in Korea, the distribution ratio of ENM 1st-grade areas by region, and the current status of regional public appeals for the five-year period from 2017 to 2021. The nationwide changes in ENM grades revealed an increase in 1st-grade, 3rd-grade, and separately managed areas but a decrease in the ratio of 2nd-grade areas. Nationwide, Gangwon had the highest distribution ratio of 1st-grade areas, at 46.77%, while Gwangju had the lowest, at 0.05%. In the five-year study period, 383 appeals concerning ENM grades were received and processed. Gangwon had the greatest number of appeals, with 96, while Sejong had the fewest, with 1. A significant correlation was observed between the distribution ratio of 1st-grade areas and public appeals.

하천 생태학의 발전과 우리나라 하천 연구의 현황 (The Development of Stream Ecology and Current Status)

  • The development of stream ecology, especially the progress of that field in North America, has been briefly reviewed, and stream studies in Korea were analyzed through literature survey. During the last two decades, theoretical advances in stream ecology and understanding of the structure and function of stream ecosystem were made from the studies mainly in North America. Early studies (1960-1970) focused on determination of the environmental factors controlling the distribution and abundance of organisms dwelling in streams. Introduction of conceptual development, such as the functional feeding concept, river continuum concept, and nutrient spiraling was notable in the late 70's and the 80's. For last 20 years, experimentation approaches to apply ecological principles were very fruitful in the understanding of community structure. Even though studies on the stream ecosystem is Korea have a long history, most of works were concentrated on limited subjects: water quality, abundance and distribution of aquatic insects and fishes. Basic ecological attributes of stream organi는 and test of ecological principles have rarely been a subject of research topics. We must concentrate our effort to enhance our understanding of stream and river ecosystem through qualitative, experimental and interdisciplinary approaches.

공주시 마을습지 인벤토리 구축 및 분포 특성 연구 (A Study on the Establishment of the Inventory and Distribution Characteristics of Village Wetlands in Gongju-city, Korea)

  • Despite its ecological importance of wetlands in our life, wetlands around cities and villages have been steadily disappearing. It is mainly due to either natural geological changes or man-made causes such as permitted land zone changes for the purpose to convert to agriculture land. This study aims to establish a comprehensive database of wetlands using GIS in a historic conservation city Gongju City. The systemic data management would enable to identify distribution of wetlands and their ecological attributes, and to estimate the conservation value of the wetlands. The data base will be able to use in strategic way to preserve the local ecological areas for local residents and tourists and manage the quality of wetlands in the historic and conservation city. For the purpose, it is suggested organising a wider network with not only local residents but local authorities and relevant stakeholders would be beneficial. This study also recommends that long-term strategic plan to preserve the existing wetlands. This study findings as a seminal case example can be used to apply to other geographical areas of the country and can contribute to create a national ecological nature map as well as evaluate the attributes and quality of natural ecosystem service of the region.
