청옥산(靑玉山) 삼림식생(森林植生)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) - 식물사회학적(植物社會學的) 분석방법(分析方法)으로 - (A Study on Forest Vegetation in Mt. Cheongok, Kyungsangpuk-do - by the Method of Phytosociological Studies -)

  • 조림구역(造林區域) 결정(決定), 각종(各種) 임업작업시(林業作業時) 특별히 보존해야 할 군락(群落)에는 어떤 것이 있으며, 천이(遷移)의 방향(方向)을 밝힐 목적(目的)으로 청옥산(靑玉山) 일대(一帶)의 삼림식생(森林植生)을 종조성(種造成) 차이에 근거한 ZM학파의 식물사회학적(植物社會學的) 분석법(分析法)으로 삼림군락분류(森林群落分類) 수행한 결과 다음과 같이 요약(要約)할 수 있었다. 청옥산 일대 삼림(森林) 식생(植生)은 금강소나무군락(群落), 신갈나무군락(群落), 일본잎갈나무군락(群落), 박달나무군락(群落), 졸참나무군락(群落), 물푸레나무군락(群落), 전나무군락(群落), 들메나무군락(群落), 고로쇠나무군락(群落), 층층나무군락(群落), 서어나무군락(群落), 물박달나무군락(群落)으로 구분되었다. 금강소나무군락(群落)은 꽃며느리밥풀군(群)과 전형군(典型群)으로 구분되었고, 금강소나무군락(群落)의 꽃며느리밥풀군(群)은 꼬리진달래소군(小群)과 전형소군(小群)으로 구분되었다. 신갈나무군락(群落)은 생강나무군(群)과 단풍취군(群)으로 구분되었고 신갈나무군락(群落)의 단풍취군(群)은 전형소군(典型小群)과 큰개별꽃소군(小群)으로 구분되었다. 이들 군락(群落)중 금강소나무군락(群落)의 꼬리진달래소군(小群)과 들메나무군락(群落)은 온대남부지역(溫帶南部地域) 산림(山林)에서는 아직 발견되지 않고 있는 군락(群落)이다. 일교법(一敎法)으로 검토(檢討)한 결과(結果), 금강소나무군락(群落)은 해발 450~1,100m 사이의 사면 상부와 능선부에 주로 분포하고 있으며, 신갈나무군락(群落)이 해발 700m 이상의 지역을 우점(優點)하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 사면상부와 능선부에 분포하는 금강소나무군락(群落)은 계속 유지될 것으로 판단되었으며, 사면중부이하의 금강소나무군락(群落)은 낙엽활엽수림(落葉闊葉樹林)으로 천이(遷移)되어 갈 것으로 판단된다.

도시림 복원 및 관리 기술의 개발에 관한 연구 - 원식생 복원과 생물다양성 증진을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Development of Techniques for Urban Forest Restoration and Management - Focus on the Restoration of Origin Vegetation and Improvement of Biodiversity -)

  • This study aims at restoring urban forest destructed and eliminated by industrialization, urbanization, and city development and presenting a direction to manage remaining urban forest ecologically. To this end, an experiment zone where Populus tomentiglandulosa T. Lee were selective cutted and a control zone where Populus tomentiglandulosa T. Lee were kept intact were created in Chongdam Park located in Kangnam-ku, Seoul. Then, the structural changes of herbaceous plant species, the growth of targeted woody plants, and the increase of the number of insect and bird species were examined. The conclusions reached in this study are as follows. First, for the sake of ecological restoration and management of urban forest, it is good to selective cutting. Although timing, frequency, and methods may vary depending on the features and types of urban forest, the study revealed that selective cutting contributes to the restoration speed of origin vegetation and the enhancement of biodiversity including plants and insects. Second, as for the correlations of selective cutting and the appearance of plant species, the growth of origin vegetation, and insect distribution, the study showed that the impact of meteorological environment such as brightness is much greater than that of soil environment. Third, in order to manage urban forest, tramping pressure needs to be controlled efficiently. The efficient control of tramping pressure would contribute in the appearance of herbaceous plants. It would also be beneficial in promoting biodiversity of birds by removing the impact of people using routes. Fourth, in order to enhance the overall biodiversity of urban forest, diverse environment needs to be provided. In particular, it is necessary to supply water that is insufficient in urban forest. Providing habitats such as forest wetland performs an important function to amphibians and birds that require water as well as the appearance of aquatic plants and insects. Therefore, ways to introduce water efficiently should be initiated.

환경조치의 WTO체제 수용에 관한 연구 (Accommodation of Trade Measures for Environment Purposes on the WTO Rules)

  • WTO체제가 출범한 이후 회원국 간에 엄격한 다자간 규정의 적용을 보장함으로써, WTO체제에서의 각종 협정의 권위를 강화하고 효율성을 확보하는 수단으로 평가받아오고 있다. 그러나 국제경제 무역의 확대와 더불어 세계는 지구온난화, 멸종위기종, 천연자원의 고갈 등 환경문제를 고민하고 시작했고, 20세기말에 성립된 수많은 다자간 환경협정들에서 알 수 있듯이, 환경문제에 대한 세계적인 관심이 증가하고 있다. 그러나 WTO체제가 자유무역의 부정적인 효과로 인한 환경파괴와 관련하여 동 문제를 해결할 수 있는지에 대한 많은 도전 및 무역과 환경에 관한 논쟁에 있어서 어려운 쟁점이 있다. 첫째, 환경기준의 조화문제, 둘째, 상품의 공정 및 생산방법(PPMs)에 따른 상품표준의 사용문제, 셋째, 환경기준의 무역의무 위반여부를 결정하는데 있어서 사용될 무역규칙(trade rule) 문제, 넷째, 환경관련 분쟁에 있어서 환경관련 협정에 관한 심사기준의 적용문제이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 무역관련 환경조치를 WTO체제가 어느 정도 어떻게 수용하고 있는가를 구체적으로 밝힘으로써 무역을 통한 성장과 환경보존과 보호가 양립될 수 있는가 그리고 WTO 체제는 환경문제에 공헌하고 있는가에 대한 답을 얻고자 하는데 목적을 두었다.

Population structure and regeneration of Himalayan endemic Larix species in three high-altitude valleys in Nepal Himalaya

  • Background: The Himalayan forests are of great importance to sustain the nature and community resource demands. These forests are facing pressures both from anthropogenic activities and ongoing global climatic changes. Poor natural regeneration has been considered a major problem in mountainous forests. To understand the population structure and regeneration status of Larix (Larix griffithiana and Larix himalaica), we conducted systematic vegetation surveys in three high-altitude valleys namely Ghunsa (Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, KCA), Langtang (Langtang National Park, LNP), and Tsum (Manaslu Conservation Area, MCA) in Nepal Himalaya. The average values of diameter at breast height (DBH), height, and sapling height were compared for three sites and two species using Kruskal-Wallis test. Population structure was assessed in terms of proportion of seedlings, saplings, and trees. Regeneration was analyzed using graphical representation of frequencies of seedlings, saplings, and trees in histograms. Results: The results showed that the population structure of Larix in terms of the proportion of seedling, sapling, and tree varied greatly in the three study areas. KCA had the highest record of seedling, sapling, and tree compared to other two sites. Seedlings were the least among three forms and many plots were without seedlings. We found no seedling in MCA study plots. The plot level average DBH variation among sites was significant (Kruskal-Wallis χ2 = 7.813, df = 2, p = 0.02) as was between species (Kruskal-Wallis χ2 = 5.9829, df = 1, p = 0.014). Similarly, the variation in average tree height was significant (Kruskal-Wallis χ2 = 134.23, df = 2, p < 0.001) among sites as well as between species (Kruskal-Wallis χ2 = 128.01, df = 1, p < 0.001). All the sites showed reverse J-shaped curve but more pronounced for KCA and MCA. In comparing the two species, Larix griffithiana has clear reverse J-shaped diameter distribution but not Larix himalaica. Conclusion: The varied responses of Larix manifested through regeneration status from spatially distinct areas show that regeneration limitations might be more pronounced in the future. In all the three studied valleys, regeneration of Larix is found to be problematic and specifically for Larix griffithiana in MCA and Larix himalaica in LNP. To address the issues of disturbances, especially serious in LNP, management interventions are recommended to sustain the unique Himalayan endemic conifer.

도시 녹지경관의 경제적 가치평가 - 독립공원을 중심으로 - (Economic Valuation of an Urban Landscape - With a Focus on Independence Park -)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 도시 내에 존재하는 녹지경관의 경제적인 가치를 분석하는 것이다. 연구의 대상지는 서울시 서대문구 현저동에 위치한 독립공원이다. 경제적인 가치평가에 앞서, 녹지경관으로서의 양적인 특성을 파악하기 위하여 시각량 분석을 수행하였다. 시각량 분석의 결과, 공원부지 전체 면적에 대한 녹지 면적의 시각량의 비는 약 64%로 나타났다. 이 연구는 헤도닉 가격기법을 이용하여, 주변의 주택가격에 내재하고 있는 녹지경관의 가치를 평가하였다. 헤도닉 가격기법은 특정한 재화에 내재해 있는 속성의 가치를 평가하는 기법이다. 분석을 위하여 일반화된 Box-Cox 모형을 사용하였으며, $3.3m^2$당 가격을 종속변수로 하고, 주택특성과 경관특성을 독립변수로 설정하였다. 독립공원의 조망가치를 분석한 결과, $3.3m^2$당 가격에서 약 2.2% 정도를 차지하였다. 이는 이 연구에서 사용된 변수들 중에서 두 번째로 영향력이 높은 수치이다. 이러한 결과는 거주자들이 도시의 녹지경관에 대해서 거주환경을 결정하는 매우 중요한 요인 중의 하나로서 인식하고 있으며, 나아가서 도시의 녹지경관이 거주자들의 삶의 질 향상과 자산가치의 상승 등 중요한 역할을 하고 있다는 사실을 나타낸다. 그리고 이 연구의 결과는 녹지경관이 중요한 도시 기반시설로서 다루어질 수 있는 가능성을 시사한다. 또한 녹지의 가치에 대한 정량적인 평가결과는 녹지의 보존 또는 조성에 대한 타당성을 합리화할 수 있는 근거자료로서 제시될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Comparative assessment of age, growth and food habit of the black-chinned tilapia, Sarotherodon melanotheron (Rüppell, 1852), from a closed and open lagoon, Ghana

  • Background: The black-chinned tilapia, Sarotherodon melanotheron, is the most abundant fish species in the Nakwa (an open lagoon) and Brenu (a closed lagoon) in the Central Region of Ghana. Aspects of the life history characteristics and the ecology of the fish populations in both lagoons were studied to assess the bio-ecological status of this important resource. Methods: Fish samples were obtained from fishermen that fish on the Nakwa and Brenu lagoons using cast, drag and gill nets. The age of the fish was assessed from otoliths analysis and its growth modelled following the von Bertalanffy growth function. Morphometric characteristics of the fish populations were analysed using power regression and ANOVA for parameters comparisons, and Student's t test to determine whether species grew isometrically. The percentage occurrence method was used to analyse the stomach contents of the fish. Results: A total of 382 fish samples from both lagoons were measured, comprising 209 from Nakwa lagoon and 176 from Brenu lagoon. The size and weight of fish samples ranged between 3.9-11.5 cm total length and 1.0-27.3 g for Nakwa Lagoon and 5.6-12.8 cm total length and 3.2-29.8 g for the Brenu Lagoon. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L∞ = 12.04 cm and K = 2.76/year for the Nakwa Lagoon samples and L∞ = 13.44 cm and K = 3.27/year for Brenu Lagoon samples. Daily otolith incremental rate ranged from 0.01-0.03 mm per day to 0.01-0.02 mm per day for Nakwa and Brenu lagoons, respectively. Stomach content analysis of the fish samples revealed that the species are planktivorous and the range of food varied between the lagoons. Green algae were the most prevalent food item in the stomachs of the fish samples from Nakwa with the frequency of 69% whilst diatoms (80.5%) were most prevalent phytoplanktonic food item for the fish in Brenu lagoon. Conclusions: The estimates of asymptotic length for the species in both lagoons are close to known values of the species length at first sexual maturity and points to intensive fishing pressure. As a consequence, a comprehensive sample-based survey is required in both lagoons to derive estimates of management reference points. The results of the stomach content analysis are beneficial to the construction of diet matrix for ecosystem models of the two systems.

유기농산물 소비자인식이 재구매의사에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Consumer Awareness of Organic Agricultural Products on Repurchase Intention)

  • Purpose - The number of consumers adopting a lifestyle of health and sustainability has recently increased with the rise of trends in healthy living. The size of the organic agricultural product market has also increased given that these consumers prefer consuming environmentally friendly products that promote family health. However, awareness of organic agricultural products remains insufficient because of the characteristics of the Korean organic agriculture system, which only focuses on food safety inspection. The object of this research is to suggest a policy approach to increase understanding and to expand the purchasing of organic agricultural products by analyzing the influence of customer recognition of such products on their willingness to repurchase. Research design, data, and methodology - This study used binomial logistic regression analysis with the aim of explaining the effects of consumers' socio-demographic characteristics, their awareness of the equivalence arrangement for organic food and of the abolishment of low-pesticide agricultural product certification, and their viewing of negative broadcasts about organic agricultural products on their repurchase intention of such products. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 655 respondents who were in their 20s, lived either in Seoul or in its metropolitan area, and had purchased organic agricultural products. Result - From the results of the analysis, the majority of the respondents recognized organic agricultural products, but they found their prices to be expensive. The majority of the respondents were also aware of the certification system and the reliability of organic agricultural products. However, the results indicate that efforts need to be made to recover consumer trust as many respondents stated that their trust levels in these products were low. In general, those purchasing organic agricultural products were satisfied, but those answering "very satisfied" were not in the majority. Binomial logistic regression analysis results revealed that repurchase intention decreased as consumers viewed a greater number of negative broadcasts about these products. On the other hand, repurchase intention increased as they became more aware of the abolishment of low-pesticide certification. Repurchase intention also increased as income increased, as the number of family members decreased, and when a consumer was a member of a consumer organization. In addition, the older the consumers were who watched the TV programs, the smaller the number of family members that were aware of the abolishment of low-pesticide agricultural product certification and, the higher the income of the consumers aware of organic equivalence arrangement, the greater their repurchase intention. Conclusion - External stimuli, such as negative TV programs on organic agricultural products and the abolishment of the low-pesticide agricultural product certification, relevant social issues and systems, influence consumer repurchase intention. To that end, positive environmental and ecological broadcasting about organic agricultural products would contribute to an increase in purchasing. Additionally, this could be used for promotion and marketing plans as the results indicate that trust in organic agricultural products would cause a positive repurchasing effect.

노랑제비꽃 자생지의 생육환경과 토양환경간 상관성 (Relativity between Growth and Soil Environment of Viola orientalis Habitat)

  • 노랑제비꽃 자생지환경은 해발 약 423m, 방위는 NW, 경사는 약 49%였다. 자생지 주변으로는 신갈나무, 산벚나무, 병꽃나무, 고깔제비꽃, 원추리, 이고들빼기, 하늘말나리 등이 있었다. 토양환경에 있어서 토양산도는 pH 5.1, 유기물함량 9.1%, $P_2O_5$ 40.6mg/kg, $K^+$ $0.2cmol^+/kg$, $Ca^{2+}$ $3.5cmol^+/kg$, $Mg^{2+}$ $0.8cmol^+/kg$, C.E.C $13.7cmol^+/kg$, EC 0.4ds/m로 분석되었다. 생육특성의 경우 초장 12.4cm, 엽폭 2.5cm, 엽장 3.0cm, 화폭 2.5cm, 화경장 2.3cm, 엽록소량 $38.5{\mu}g/mg^{-1}$로 조사되었다. 생육특성간 상관분석 결과, 엽폭과 엽장이 가장 높은 0.616로 나타났고 정적 관계가 형성되었으며, 엽폭과 엽록소량이 0.416으로 부적인 관계로 분석되었다. 생육특성과 토양환경간 상관분석 결과, EC와 엽폭이 가장 높은 0.975로 나타났고 EC와 엽장이 0.900으로 확인되었으며, 모두 정적 관계가 유지되었다.

Spatial-Temporal Distribution Characteristics of Bigeye and Yellowfin Tunas in Kiribati Waters

  • Information on the distribution characteristics of tuna resources in Kiribati EEZ waters in three zones (Zone 1: west Gilbert region, Zone 2: central Phoenix region, and Zone 3: east Line region) as well as their relationship with the ocean environment is critical for sustainable managing the migratory tuna resource and fishing practices in this region. Therefore, this study is designed to investigate the spatial and temporal distribution and concentration of bigeye (BET) and yellowfin tuna (YFT) in Kiribati EEZ waters in relation to sea surface temperature (SST) and thermocline depth so as to better understand the tuna resources management basis in Kiribati waters. The geographic and temporal distribution and concentration were first displayed. Paired t-test was utilized to compare the distribution between the two tuna species based on Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE) derived from the Korean longliners during 1996 to 2004, and also among the three zones of Kiribati EEZ waters. Environmental conditions of the three zones were then compared and correlated with the CPUE of YFT and BET. In addition, the effect of ENSO phenomena on the environmental conditions and the distribution of YFT and BET within the three zones were also examined. The BET was relatively higher in the Zone 3 whereas YFT predominate in the Zone 1 and the Zone 2 due to oceanographic differences among the three zones and the ecological habitats of the two tuna species. It was suggested that El Ni?o/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomena altered the oceanographic conditions of the three zones that in turn change the distribution of the two tuna species. During El Ni?o, the warm phase of ENSO, resulted in having more BET in all the three zones and the opposite observed during La Ni?a (cold phase) replacing by having relatively higher catch rate for YFT, particularly in the Zone 2. Although the results of the study are from short periods (1996 to 2004) in considering oceanographic anomality, these environmental variations should be considered into sustainable fisheries management of tuna fisheries in Kiribati EEZ waters.

Spatial Inequalities in the Incidence of Colorectal Cancer and Associated Factors in the Neighborhoods of Tehran, Iran: Bayesian Spatial Models

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with the spatial distribution of the incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in the neighborhoods of Tehran, Iran using Bayesian spatial models. Methods: This ecological study was implemented in Tehran on the neighborhood level. Socioeconomic variables, risk factors, and health costs were extracted from the Equity Assessment Study conducted in Tehran. The data on CRC incidence were extracted from the Iranian population-based cancer registry. The $Besag-York-Molli{\acute{e}}$ (BYM) model was used to identify factors associated with the spatial distribution of CRC incidence. The software programs OpenBUGS version 3.2.3, ArcGIS 10.3, and GeoDa were used for the analysis. Results: The Moran index was statistically significant for all the variables studied (p<0.05). The BYM model showed that having a women head of household (median standardized incidence ratio [SIR], 1.63; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.06 to 2.53), living in a rental house (median SIR, 0.82; 95% CI, 0.71 to 0.96), not consuming milk daily (median SIR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.55 to 0.94) and having greater household health expenditures (median SIR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.06 to 1.68) were associated with a statistically significant elevation in the SIR of CRC. The median (interquartile range) and mean (standard deviation) values of the SIR of CRC, with the inclusion of all the variables studied in the model, were 0.57 (1.01) and 1.05 (1.31), respectively. Conclusions: Inequality was found in the spatial distribution of CRC incidence in Tehran on the neighborhood level. Paying attention to this inequality and the factors associated with it may be useful for resource allocation and developing preventive strategies in at-risk areas.
