  • Rotary forging process has many advantages such as compacting of machine, low price of facilities and good quality of products. The last presented was a technical report about rotary forging press in the 100-ton class, which has the only orbital motion limited to the forming of axisymmetric parts. In this paper, the newly developed rotary forging press is introduced. The maximum capacity of forming load is 280 ton and five locking motion, this is, orbital, straight pivot, spiral and two kinds of clover can be available. This machine consists of transmission, double eccentric bush, rocking shaft, die set and hydraulic unit. Especially, the supports of rocking shaft and double eccentric bush are so crucial that hydrostatic bearings are adopted. Finally, it is expected that the technical know-how obtained in this research can be applied to the manufacturing of the another machine with large capacity.

  • A beam supported by a flexible elastic support is commonly used as structural elements, e.g., braced beam, railway track, etc. The elastic support can be located in arbitrary point in the cross-section. This paper investigates the effects of support eccentricity on the elastic buckling of beams with elastic supports. The effects of stiffness of the elastic support are also studied. A beam element with elastic supports and the analysis program are developed for elastic buckling analysis using finite element formulation. The elastic support is modeled by elastic spring element. Using the offset technique, the eccentricity of support is taken into account. A beam element having 14 degrees of freedom including the warping degree of freedom is used. Various numerical example analyses show that the present formulation and analysis program accurately and effectively compute the buckling load and mode of beams with elastic supports.

  • Horizontally curved bridges are subjected to torsional loads by their vertical dead loads only as well as eccentric loads, which cause negative reactions at supports. In this paper, effects of bridge curvature on vertical reactions at supports are investigated for 48.8 m length simple span steel box girder bridges with elastomeric bearings by varying curvature angle from 0.49 to 1.35 rad. In order to expect magnitude and direction of reactions including possibility of negative reactions, reaction evaluation equations have been analytically developed by separating a superstructure of curved bridge into independent components. Concrete slabs and bottom flanges in steel box section are assumed geometrical annular sectors in area dimension, and top flanges and webs that have very narrow projected areas are assumed geometrical arcs in line dimension. Proposed equations have relatively simple forms and prediction values are on very good agreement with those from finite element analyses by difference of 1% order.

  • The surface reconstruction problem from a set of wire-frame contours is very important in diverse fields such as medical imaging or computer animation. In this paper, surface triangulation method is proposed for solving the problem. Generally, many optimal triangulation techniques suffer from the large computation time but heuristic approaches may produce very unnatural surface when contours are widely different in shape. To compensate the disadvantages of these approaches, we propose a new heuristic triangulation method which iteratively decomposes the surface generation problem from a band (a pair of vertices chain) into tow subproblems from two sub-bands. Generally, conventional greedy heuristic contour triangulation algorithm, suffer from the drastic error propagation during surface modeling when the adjacent contours are different in shape. Our divide-and-conquer algorithm, called band partitioning algorithm, processes eccentric parts of the contours first with more global information. Consequently, the resulting facet model becomes more stable and natural even though the shapes are widely different. An interesting property of our method is hat it supports multi-resolution capability in surface modeling time. According to experiments, it is proved to be very robust and efficient in many applications.
