The 7th curriculum which was administered to high school science courses from 2002 asked for a revel specific curriculum. But those curriculums were not developed. The purpose of this research was to develop a level specific curriculum for high school science courses, apply it to high school science courses, and then investigate the effects of this curriculum through the change in attitude towards science and perception towards level specific curriculum. The results are as follows. 1) The two types of level specific curriculum for high school science course was developed. In the first type, the level specific curriculum instruction was conducted in the same class whereas, instruction was divided in the second one, according to the students' intellectual levels. 2) Result on the perception of the test showed that developed level specific curriculum was ineffective in changing the students' attitude towards science, even though they recognized the importance of the curriculum. This was because the students perceive science as a difficult and uninteresting subject.

This study is focused on the main concepts of gravity and geomagnetics which are introduced in the earth science textbooks of high school in 7th curriculum. This study examines the validity and accuracy of the Earth Science textbooks and shows some effective teaching plans by using the latest materials. This study also illustrates the main concepts of gravity and geomagnetics through presenting some effective and practical teaching-learning methods. The results of the study were as follows: First of all, a number of main concepts of six textbooks of high school were selected; the field of gravity, the direction and dimension of gravity, the measurement of gravity, the main reason of gravity anomaly and geoid, earth terrestrial magnetic field, secular variation of goemagnetics. Secondly, most Earth Science textbooks of high school explains the main concepts of the gravity and geomagnetics in similar ways. Those textbooks, however, don't put an emphasis on the essential contents which has been regarded as important thing in terms of the current educational course of study. The high school textbooks also use the material which is too old-fashioned and has some problems of accuracy and validity. Especially, many main concepts of the textbooks and scientific data(such as the direction of gravity, the measurement of gravity, the main reason of gravity anomaly, the use of geoid, secular variation) are different with those of South Korea, In addition, some materials(graphs and diagrams) are very old ones and they don't have authentic information. Finally, Among the various main concepts, some important ideas (the direction of the gravity and the method of measuring gravity, the measurement and use of gravity anomaly, the definition of geoid and secular variation of geomagnetics) should be corrected by showing the latest and authentic materials.
In this study, we investigated how elementary science teaching has changed with the introduction of the National Assessment of Educational Achievement (NAEA). Teachers are held accountable for student performance as measured by the mandatory nation-wide standards tests to satisfy the needs of accountability and quality assurance systems. In relation to the teaching of science in the elementary school, professionalism meets potential threats with the advent of national test. Through analysis of the classroom teaching and open-ended interviews, we explored the teacher's concerns about the national test and how their science classes have changed to prepare for this test. According to the results, the national test made elementary teachers accountable for the content of their science classes, limits teachers' autonomy in reconstruction of curriculum, and forced teachers to conduct conclusion-centered lessons even in elementary science classes. In addition, teachers argue that the national test precludes the possibility of differentiated education and differentiated assessment. Based on the results, we suggested a new professionalism in this accountability era, so called 'informed professionalism', which refers to the ability of teachers to interpret and implement curriculum and policy mandates at the local, school and classroom level to generate equitable and improved student outcomes through teaching and learning. We also suggested further research on the teacher professionalism in teaching science contents.

The purpose of the study is to analyze and compare the primary science curricula of Korea, China, and Japan. Science textbooks for Korea and China and national science curriculum guides for Korea and Japan were analyzed in terms of the scope and sequence of the topics. The number of primary science topics dealt with is greatest in China, followed by Korea, then Japan. In addition to the wide range of topics, the Chinese curriculum also shows more in-depth coverage of topics. On the contrary, the Japanese curriculum has the least number of topics and shallowest depth of coverage. Korea seems to be in the middle between China and Japan. The similarities of the curricula in these East Asian countries is greatest between Korea and China. and the least between China and Japan. The similarities between Korea and Japan is somewhere in the middle. Korean primary science curriculum shows a comparatively even distribution of topics across grades. A relatively smaller number of sub-topics are introduced at each grade level, especially in the area of earth science and physics. On the contrary, in the Chinese curriculum, sub-topics tend to be concentrated at a certain grade level, thus major topics are dealt with in a grade or two. The Japanese science curriculum has fewer topics than those of the other countries, and generally one or two sub-topics appeared in a grade or two.
The purpose of this study is to survey the status of the 7th elective-centered curriculum and find problems in operating the system. 485 students in the tenth and eleventh grade were randomly selected as subjects. The results are as follows. (1) Among the students, 29% of them selected their science subject without considering their future jobs, 48% did it without enough overview of the system, and 25% did without clearly understanding the details the choice centered curriculum. (2) Among the students who participated in the survey, 65% of them showed positive responses concerning the needs of individual choice centered curriculum and 96% said it increased their participation in class. However, only 39% believed that operating this type of curriculum is realistically possible. (3) 89% of students selected their science subjects accordingly with the college preparatory courses and 14% selected based on their hopes. (4) The percentage of science subjects chosen are 40% for chemistry, 25% for biology, 22% for Physics, and 13% for earth science, but 74% of students wanted to change their choices. These results showed that students recognized the object of the 7th curriculum, but selected science subjects as a means of getting into college entrances, rather than carefully considering their future and aptitude.
In this research we diagnosed the actual status of the 7th National science elective curriculum and suggested a way to select and organize the content of the new science elective curriculum. The first science education reform was grounded in the structuralism where the structure of discipline was valued above everything else. On the other hand, the second science education reform suggested alternative interpretations of students' opportunity to learn, putting a brake on the structuralist thinking. According to the survey result, the majority of the science elective courses are in need for revision because the contents are overcrowded, too difficult in light of students' learning readiness, failed to draw students' interest in science, and are overlapped and repeated among the 10th grade science, high school science I and II. In particular, Earth Science II and physics II are the most unfavorable courses among students. Thus, we recommended a fundamental change be made in the new curriculum in addition to the optimization of the content. In this paper, we suggested 'topic-centered content organization' for the science elective course I, i.e., Physics I, Chemistry I, Biology I and Earth Science I that is designed for both science track and non-science track students. Since curriculum provides students with an 'opportunity to learn', a curriculum study should focus on what the 'opportunity to learn' is that students ought to be offered. Based on the result of this study, we recommended one way to select and organize the content of high school elective curriculum.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the terms of astronomy area used in six convergence science textbooks by 2009 curriculum revision. The results of this study were following; the first, the contents about astronomy occupied about 18.6% account of science contents. There were the terms which all textbooks used, but some terms were not used other text book, and the others were used in only one textbook. And the second, there were some terms of having certain concept which had described differently. It was suggested that it was necessary to the effort to prevent to descript same meaning terms differently and to make guideline for the depth and width of the terms.

The purpose of this study was to suggest the earth science lesson model based on the creativity character education. To conduct this study, the curriculum revision in 2009 was analyzed by the causal mapping method. One after another, the creativity character education and earth system education were analyzed by the same method. Through as mentioned above, the key words which have relating concepts each other were picked out. Lastly, the key words were connected and compounded for the earth science lesson model based on the creativity character education. The model indicates that the earth science lesson based on the creativity character education requires the reconstructs of the processing and contents of the lesson. In other words, the teaching/learning must be progressed as corresponding between scientific facts and mental recognition, scientific concepts and compounding thinking skill, scientific laws and reconstructing thinking skill. In contents were reconstructed as relating to knowledge, creativity, characters and guidance counseling. The results of this study suggested the earth science lesson model based on the creativity character education needs developing and applying teaching/learning materials and managing discussing and cooperative learning.

In this study, we investigated and compared the standard of the present teaching tools & facilities in 16 cities and provinces. On the basis of this data, we suggested the standard of teaching tools & facilities according to the new curriculum. In the analysis of the present teaching tools & facilities, we divided the scope of facilities into 'the common one' and 'lab & practical room[common].' This study made it possible to easily recognize a facility by deleting a prep room from the names of facilities. Also, we prepared the standard plan for teaching tools by putting its focus on how to desirably manage the curriculum while giving the independence of a school to the maximum because of all sorts & great numbers of teaching tools.

The purpose of this study is to investigate earth science pre-service teachers' perceptions and educational utilization of geoparks. It is intended to provide implications of geopark education in the current curriculum and effective geopark education. Education using geoparks has the effect of helping students cultivate inquiry and learning skills, enhancing students' participation in classes. To provide education with these results, it is necessary to deliver meanings of the geopark education to of earth science pre-service teachers who will educate future generations. However, despite the advantages and needs of geopark education, earth science pre-service teachers lack an understanding of geoparks. In this study, 56 pre-service teachers enrolled in earth science education at a university in Gyeongsangbuk-do were investigated for: their perception levels of geoparks, experience, necessity, and learning method of geopark education. As a result, earth science pre-service teachers were well aware of the geoparks, but they lacked knowledge of domestic and global geoparks, confirming the need for geopark education. Currently, the degree of geopark education in the secondary curriculum is insufficient, and earth science pre-service teachers feel the need for it. However, since the understanding of geopark is lacking, support for geopark education is needed. Earth science pre-service teachers being positive about the need for geopark education, it is expected that geopark education will be active in the field of earth science, social, and comparison education when they become teachers in the future.
