Due to the increasing demand of rare earth magnet for various application, it is predicted that the amount of waste rare earth magnet will increase sharply. The process of waste rare earth magnet recycling is mainly consisted of leaching and separation of rare earth element contained in the magnet. However, there is no study on the breakage characteristics of the waste rare earth magnet for production of magnet powder. Therefore, in this study, effective crushing/grinding process and breakage characteristics were investigated for waste rare earth magnet. In the case of jaw crusher, the particle size of magnet was effectively reduced without rapid oxidation. In ball mill grinding test, it was found that the grinding process was not performed properly at the early stage of grinding. Moreover, waste rare earth magnet showed very low specific rate of breakage(S) and high fraction of fine particle breakage distribution(B) compared to ordinary minerals. These results can be used as a basic data for developing crushing/grinding circuit of waste rare earth magnet.
Wiring techniques in the fixation of patellar fracture are commonly used. Rigid fixation is essential for early rehabilitation. Breakages of wires after the fixation of patellar fracture are common with extracapsular migration if not removed for long term. But, we experienced a case of patellar fracture with early breakage of wiring and migration of the broken wire fragment into the popliteal fossa through the popliteal hiatus in 64- year-old man and we successfully treated this case, using both arthroscopic and open procedures. So we report this unusual case with a review of current literatures.
Purpose: Pedicle screw insertion has been traditionally used as a surgical treatment for degenerative lumbar spine disease. As an alternative, the cortical-bone trajectory screw allows less invasive posterior lumbar fixation and excellent mechanical stability, as reported in several biomechanical studies. This study evaluated the clinical and radiological results of a case of early failure of cortical-bone screw fixation in posterior fixation and union after posterior decompression. Materials and Methods: This study examined 311 patients who underwent surgical treatment from 2013 to 2018 using cortical orbital screws as an alternative to traditional pedicle screw fixation for degenerative spinal stenosis and anterior spine dislocation of the lumbar spine. Early fixation failure after surgery was defined as fixation failure, such as loosening, pull-out, and breakage of the screw on computed tomography (CT) and radiographs at a follow-up of six months. Results: Early fixation failure occurred in 46 out of 311 cases (14.8%), screw loosening in 46 cases (14.8%), pull-out in 12 cases (3.9%), and breakage in four cases (1.3%). An analysis of the site where the fixation failure occurred revealed the following, L1 in seven cases (15.2%), L2 in three cases (6.5%), L3 in four cases (8.7%), L4 in four cases (8.7%), L5 in four cases (8.7%), and S1 in 24 cases (52.2%). Among the distal cortical bone screws, fixation failures such as loosening, pull-out, and breakage occurred mainly in the S1 screws. Conclusion: Cortical-bone trajectory screw fixation may be an alternative with comparable clinical outcomes or fewer complications compared to conventional pedicle screw fixation. On the other hand, in case with osteoporosis and no anterior support structure particularly at L5-S1 fusion sites were observed to have result of premature fixation failures such as relaxation, pull-out, and breakage.
The objective of this study was to get a comprehensive understanding of how genes in chicken shell gland modulate eggshell strength at the early stage of active calcification. Four 32-week old of purebred Xianju hens with consistent high or low shell breakage strength were grouped into two pairs. Using Affymetrix Chicken Array, a whole-transcriptome analysis was performed on hen's shell gland at 9 h post oviposition. Gene ontology enrichment analysis for differentially expressed (DE) transcripts was performed using the web-based GOEAST, and the validation of DE-transcripts was tested by qRT-PCR. 1,195 DE-transcripts, corresponding to 941 unique genes were identified in hens with strong eggshell compared to weak shell hens. According to gene ontology annotations, there are 77 DE-transcripts encoding ion transporters and secreted extracellular matrix proteins, and at least 26 DE-transcripts related to carbohydrate metabolism or post-translation glycosylation modification; furthermore, there are 88 signaling DE-transcripts. GO term enrichment analysis suggests that some DE-transcripts mediate reproductive hormones or neurotransmitters to affect eggshell quality through a complex suite of biophysical processes. These results reveal some candidate genes involved with eggshell strength at the early stage of active calcification which may facilitate our understanding of regulating mechanisms of eggshell quality.
In this study, the variation of fatigue strength in CF/PEEK and CF/EPOXY, the matrix and interfacial strength of which differ from each other, has been studied from the viewpoint of microfracture behavior. The results obtained are as follows; According as the fatigue strength moves from the lower cycle range to the higher cycle range, that of CF/PEEK shows higher curve than that of CF/EPOXY does. In the early stage of fatigue life, the characteristic of fatigue crack in CF/PEEK is mainly the fracture of longitudinal fiber, while that in CF/EPOXY is the fracture of transverse fiber. The difference of fatigue strength in these materials can be explained by the fracture criteria of transverse fiber and longitudinal fiber.
Recently, a variety of arthroscopic techniques have been reported for the treatment of the displaced tibial eminence fracture. The purpose of this study was to describe details of arthroscopic technique using pull-out wire and to evaluate the results. Eleven patients with irreducible type II and type III tibial eminence fractures underwent the arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation using double strand pull-out wiring. The anterior cruciate ligament tibial drill guide was utilized for the reduction of fracture and passage of the guide pins. The tibial eminence fracture was firmly fixed with double strand 26-gauge pull-out wire(0.45mm diameter). Fracture union was achieved at 7.2 weeks (range, six to eight weeks) after operation. All cases were united at the last follow-up. Subjectively, nine patients had no pain and no restriction of daily activities. Two patients with combined injuries had limitation of knee motion(10 to 130 degrees, respectively) and one patient showed mild anterior laxity. Early rehabilitation was enabled without loss of reduction and breakage of pull-out wire. The arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation using pull-out wire showed good results including early rehabilitation, early fracture union, minimal morbidity, and no requirement of the second operation for hard ware removal.

This paper describes the adherence phenomenon, including the tribological characteristics, of a low-pressure fuel pump in a diesel engine for an excavator. Most fuel pumps of a diesel-engine excavator are of the fixed-quantity-gear type and have low pressure. However, the developed pumps develop problems in the pumping system owing to performance instability. Cavitation, which is the main obstacle to stable driving in the pump, occurs between an idle gear and the housing to produce a serious adherence problem. The present study not only examined how to suppress cavitation in a pump but also developed a simple method to improve pump performance through the early creation of a lubrication film with a phosphoric acid coating on the surface of the idle gear. The results showed that the coating successfully prevents breakage of the idle gear due to adherence.

Recently, the spread of deep learning environments has increased the importance of dataset generation. Therefore, data is being augmented using GAN for efficient data set generation. However, several problems have been found in data generated using GAN, such as problems that occur in the early stages of learning and pixel breakage occurring in the generated image. In this paper, we intend to implement an image data selection algorithm to solve various problems arising from the existing GAN. The broken image screening algorithm was implemented to analyze the histogram distribution in the image and determine whether to store the generated image according to whether the result value satisfies the specified threshold value.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of mulching materials on the fruit quality of Miyagawa Early Satsuma Mandarin in the plastic house. The mulching time was 10 days after water irrigation breakage. The mulching materials used, in order of decreasing light reflectivity, were; micro-perforated vinyl sheets, non-woven fabric film, porous black P.E. film and non-mulching(control). Peel coloration by a values in the treatment of the micro-perforated vinyl sheets showed a 6.93 increase over the control group. The a/b values were similar to this trend, but there were no significant difference among the mulching treatment groups. The glucose level of fruit juice was much higher in the mulching treatment groups as compared with that of the control group, but there was no significant difference among the mulching treatments. Fructose content in the treatment of the micro-perforated vinyl sheets a 0.31mg%.m $L^{-1}$ increase over the control group. This group also showed a 1.36%.m $L^{-1}$ increase in sucrose and a similar increase trend in total sugar. The Brix value was 0.9 $^{\circ}$Brix higher in the micro-perforated vinyl sheet group(12.4 $^{\circ}$Brix) than in the control group(11.5 $^{\circ}$Brix) which result in a significant increase with micro-perforated vinyl sheet usage. However, the acidity level did not differ significantly among mulching treatments.

Costs invested in road maintenance and road development are on the rise. However, due to accidents such as portholes and ground subsidence, the risks to the drivers' safety and the material damage caused by accidents are also increasing. Following this trend, we have developed a system that determines road damage, according to the magnitude of vibration generated without directly intervening the driver when driving. In this paper, we implemented the system using a remote control car (RC car) simulator due to the limitation of the environment in which the actual vehicle is not available in the process of developing the system. In addition, we attached a vibration sensor and GPS sensor to the body of the RC car simulator to measure the vibration value and location information generated by the movement of the vehicle in real-time while driving, and transmitting the corresponding data to the server. In this way, we implemented a system that allows external users to check the damage of roads and the maintenance of the repaired roads based on data more easily than the existing systems. By using this system, we can perform early prediction of road breakage and pattern prediction based on the data. Further, for the RC car simulator, commercialization will be possible by combining it with business in other fields that require flatness.
