Measurements and Numerical Analysis of Electric Cart and Fuel Cell to Estimate Operating Characteristic of FCEV (연료전지 자동차의 주행성능 예측을 위한 전기자동차 및 연료전지의 성능실험과 수학적 모델링)

  • In new generation vehicle technologies, a fuel cell vehicle becomes more important, by virtue of their emission merits. In addition, a fuel cell is considered as a major source to generate the electricity for vehicles in near future. This paper focuses on modeling of not only an electric vehicle and but also a fuel cell vehicle to estimate performances. And an EV cart is manufactured to verify the modeling. Speed, voltage, and current of the vehicle and modeling are compared to estimate them at acceleration test and driving mode test. The estimations are also compared with the data of the Ballard Nexa fuel cell stack. In order to investigate a fuel cell based vehicle, motor and fuel cell models are integrated in a electric vehicle model. The characteristics of individual components are also integrated. Calculated fuel cell equations show good agreements with test results. In the fuel cell vehicle simulation, maximum speed and hydrogen fuel consumption are estimated. Even though there is no experimental data from vehicle tests, the vehicle simulation showed physically-acceptable vehicle characteristics.

  • In this paper, a zero torque control scheme adopting current sharing function (CSF) used in integrated Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drive with DC battery charger is proposed. The proposed control scheme is able to achieve the keeping position (KP), zero torque (ZT) and power factor correction (PFC) at the same time with a simple novel current sharing function algorithm. The proposed CSF makes the proper reference for each phase windings of SRM to satisfy the total charging current of the battery with zero torque output to hold still position with power factor correction, and the copper loss minimization during of battery charging is also achieved during this process. Based on these, CSFs can be used without any recalculation of the optimal current at every sampling time. In this proposed integrated battery charger system, the cost effective, volume and weight reduction and power enlargement is realized by function multiplexing of the motor winding and asymmetric SR converter. By using the phase winding as large inductors for charging process, and taking the asymmetric SR converter as an interleaved converter with boost mode operation, the EV can be charged effectively and successfully with minimum integral system. In this integral system, there is a position sliding mode controller used to overcome any uncertainty such as mutual inductance or DC offset current sensor. Power factor correction and voltage adaption are obtained with three-phase buck type converter (or current source rectifier) that is cascaded with conventional SRM, one for wide input and output voltage range. The practicability is validated by the simulation and experimental results by using a laboratory 3-hp SRM setup based on TI TMS320F28335 platform.

Optical and Electrical Property of $\beta$-Phases $In_2Te_3$ Single Crystal by Vertical Bridgman Method (수직 Bridgman법으로 제작한 $\beta-In_2Te_3$ 단결정의 광학적 전기적 특성)

  • The $\beta-In_2Te_3$ single crystal was grown by vertical Bridgman method. The $\beta-In_2Te_3$ single crystal had a face centered cubic(fcc) structure. The lattice constants were found to be $a\;=\;0.617\;{\AA}$. The direct optical energy gap ($E_g$) was found to be 1.11 ev at 300 K. Raman spectra peak of $\beta-In_2Te_3$ single crystal showed the low $E_{LO}$ mode at $105\;cm^{-1}$. The electrical conduction type was measured by the thermal method and was p-type. The electrical conductivity was found to be $1.8\;{\times}\;10^{-2}\;{\Omega}^{-1}cm^{-1}$ at 300 K. The activation energy was found to be 0.51 eV.

  • A power device is a component used as a switch or rectifier in power electronics to control high voltages. Consequently, power devices are used to improve the efficiency of electric-vehicle (EV) chargers, new energy generators, welders, and switched-mode power supplies (SMPS). Power device designs, which require high voltage, high efficiency, and high reliability, are typically based on MOSFET (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor) and IGBT (insulated-gate bipolar transistor) structures. As a unipolar device, a MOSFET has the advantage of relatively fast switching and low tail current at turn-off compared to IGBT-based devices, which are built on bipolar structures. A superjunction structure adds a p-base region to allow a higher yield voltage due to lower RDS (on) and field dispersion than previous p-base components, significantly reducing the total gate charge. To verify the basic characteristics of the superjunction, we worked with a planar type MOSFET and Synopsys' process simulation T-CAD tool. A basic structure of the superjunction MOSFET was produced and its changing electrical characteristics, tested under a number of environmental variables, were analyzed.

  • Integrated switched reluctance motor drive as an electric vehicle battery charger is presented in this paper. The SRM, which is used as the traction power in the driving mode, is used in the charge circuit to improve the power factor of charging system. The charging circuit can share the power switches of the asymmetric converter and phase windings of SRM to charge the battery, and can reduce the size and cost of the system in the plug-in system. To keep the rotor at standstill, zero torque control method is proposed. Since the inductances of the SRM windings are not same at any stop position, the charger controller controls the reference current to satisfy the total charging current with PFC and zero torque condition. A novel cubic equation method is proposed as a current reference distributor of the charging controller. Simulations are performed by MATLAB software and results satisfy the Effectiveness of proposed battery charging system.

  • This study investigates a bidirectional quasi-Z-source inverter (Bq-ZSI) system with bidirectional power transfer capability and a modified space vector modulation scheme for reducing the ripple of the inductor current. By replacing the diode in the impedance network with an active switch, the power flow can be bidirectional. The average inductor current of the Bq-ZSI network is negative in the regenerative braking mode, thereby regenerating the power. In addition, modified space vector modulation scheme is applied to the Bq-ZSI to control shoot-through time effectively. A 5 kW prototype is built and tested to implement the proposed system. Experimental results show that the Bq-ZSI system is capable of regenerative braking of the induction motor and that the modified space vector modulation method is efficient.

  • This paper describes development of 4 Wheel Drive (4WD) Electric Vehicle (EV) based driving control algorithm for severe driving situation such as icy road or disturbance. The proposed control algorithm consists three parts : a supervisory controller, an upper-level controller and optimal torque vectoring controller. The supervisory controller determines desired dynamics with cornering stiffness estimator using recursive least square. The upper-level controller determines longitudinal force and yaw moment using sliding mode control. The yaw moment, particularly, is calculated by integration of a side-slip angle and yaw rate for the performance and robustness benefits. The optimal torque vectoring controller determines the optimal torques each wheel using control allocation method. The numerical simulation studies have been conducted to evaluated the proposed driving control algorithm. It has been shown from simulation studies that vehicle maneuverability and lateral stability performance can be significantly improved by the proposed driving controller in severe driving situations.

  • This paper deals with the design and modal characteristics analysis of a drive-train for a paralleltype hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). The function of the drive-train system (DTS) in the HEV combines or divides the torque and velocity from the internal combustion engine along with the induction motor. The system consists of a compound planetary gear and unit's electromagnetic clutch to provide the operation modes such as Engine Only (EO), Electric Vehicle (EV), and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) modes. In order to investigate the characteristics of the velocity and torque flow for the system, dynamic models of the HEV with DTS are derived from the prototype DTS. The performance of the derived dynamic models is evaluated by both computer simulations and experiments according to each mode.

  • Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) method becomes more and more popular for the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery charger due to its convenience and safety in comparison with plugged-in charger. In recent years, Lithium batteries are increasingly used in EVs and Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CC/CV) charge needs to be adopted for the high efficiency charge. However, it is not easy to design the IPT Battery Charger which can charge the battery with CC/CV charge under the wide range of load variation due to the wide range of variation in its operating frequency. This paper propose a new design and control method which makes it possible to implement the CC/CV mode charge with minimum frequency variation (less than 1kHz) during all over the charge process. A 6.6kW prototype charge has been implemented and 96.1% efficiency was achieved with 20cm air gap between the coils.

  • This study presents a single-phase single-stage three-level AC/DC converter with a wide controllable output voltage. The proposed AC/DC converter is designed to extend the application of e-mobility, such as electric vehicles. The single-stage converter integrates a PFC converter and a three-level DC/DC converter, operates at a fixed frequency, and provides a wide controllable output voltage (approximately 200-430Vdc) with high efficiencies over a wide load range. In addition, the input boost inductors operate in a discontinuous mode to improve the input power factor. The switching devices operate with ZVS, and the converter's THD is small, especially at full load. The feasibility of the proposed converter is verified by the experimental results of a 1.5 kW prototype.
