  • This paper describes the emergency situation which occurs in Drilling Rig power system. Especially, we focused on power system transient characteristics on propulsion motor load and generator elimination situation in Drilling Rig operation. We performed numerical simulation and analyzed the result for power system transient stability characteristics on each condition for excitation system and governor control system using ETAP (Electrical Transient Analysis Program).

  • When small cogenerators are operated in connected with power system, there are many positive aspects such as the reduction of power plant construction, making a improvement of power security etc. At the same time, there are some negative effects or difficulties such as we should make sure of protective coordination, especially, Actually these are not fault, but it is likely to consider the current as the fault. This is one of major causes of malfunctions for protective relays in power distribution system which is including interconnection point. Thus, in this paper, We showed that the directional protection is necessary to the dispersed generation system which is including connection point. We also executed contingency analysis to find out the magnitude of fault current and direction which are classified by fault points, length of line and kinds of faults using ETAP power system analysis program.

  • As electricity has been used in ship's propulsion, it is necessary to increase the system voltage and current for the electrical distribution system. So it is required to improve the system safety and efficiency, the power stability, the efficiency of the generation through various analysis of ship's electric power system. In this paper, the electrical service reliability of the power distribution system of semi submersible drilling rigs has been analysed and discussed using ETAP.

  • As DC power and DC load increase, unnecessary conversion process occurs in existing system. Due to these problems, interest in DC distribution systems has increased recently. As the importance of DC distribution system becomes higher, it is necessary to analyze the DC current. In this paper, we briefly describe the control method of the converter and describe the DC power flow calculation method. finally, we compared the simulation results of MATLAB and ETAP.

  • This paper proposed protective coordination on HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) cable on 22.9kV distributed system. HTS cable transient model is developed and tested using EMTP-RV, system protective coordination is studied with ETAP. Possible contingency and protective scheme are considered real distribution system in Icheon substation. The simulation results was showed, in protective case to apply conventional relay, that appeared problem on HTS cable inner part. The HTS cable couldn't protection on contingency state of power system. It was using high-speed relay system instead of conventional relay system. Then, the HTS cable was protected contingency by circuit breaker.

  • Motor bus transfer involves the process of transferring a bus that has several critical motors to an alternate source of power when the main normal power source feeding them is interrupted. Bus transfer is a time-critical application in which the transfer progress depends on various parameters such as the type of motor, load on the motor at the time of transfer, inertia of the motor, and the combined open-circuit time constant of various motors present on the bus at the time of transfer. This paper present the result of modeling and simulation of nuclear power motor bus using ETAP(Electrical Transient Analyzing Program) program for motor and motor bus residual voltage decay characteristics.

  • This paper deals with modeling and characteristic analysis of a large-powered electric ship propulsion system. Particularly, system modeling in accordance with the required shipping performance, building-up the equivalent circuit and the power analysis based on load flow have been performed. In addition, abnormal operating condition of short-circuit network is considered for investigating the safety of system components under the over-load condition. Furthermore, protective device like circuit breaker has been specified in order to make the entire system operate normally in case of short-circuit emergency.

  • The electric propulsion system requires more reliability and safety than the conventional propulsion system because any sudden changes of electric system would bring tremendous effects on the ship's safety and propulsion. So it is very important to consider the potential transient effects. This paper discusses one of the worst electric accident. That is, one or two of generators are out of service in normal seagoing condition. And the appropriate measures are simulated in order to prevent the frequency decline that can bring the other generator's tripping. In addition, the relation between the transient effects and the major factors(inertia of generator/motors, governor's drooping characteristic and response speed) are also identified using the ETAP software.
