ESS 연계용 변압기의 결선방식 및 철심구조에 따른 순환전류와 포화특성에 관한 연구 (Characteristics of Saturation and Circulating Current Based on Winding and Iron Core Structure of Grid-connected Transformer in Energy Storage System)

  • 2017년 8월에 발생한 고창 전력시험센터를 시작으로, 현재까지 총 29건의 전기저장장치 화재가 발생하여 많은 재산피해가 보고되고 있다. 이에 대한 원인은 아직 정확하게 규명되지 않았으나, ESS(energy storage system)와 전력변환장치뿐만 아니라, 계통측 불평형 문제도 하나의 원인으로 고려되어야 할 것으로 보인다. 특히, 연계용변압기측의 순환전류가 자화전류에 영향을 미쳐, 의도치 않게 변압기의 철심이 포화되고 서지전압이 발생하여 ESS에 영향을 줄 수 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 부하불평형에 의한 불평형전류 발생시, ESS 연계용변압기로 순환전류의 유입과 변압기 포화로 인한 서지전압 발생 현상을 해석하기 위하여, PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용한 배전용변전소, 연계용변압기 및 수용가부하로 구성된 배전계통의 모델링을 수행한다. 또한, 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여, 중성점 접지 저항기(neutral grounding resistor, NGR)를 통해 순환전류의 크기를 일정 값 이내로 저감시키는 방안을 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 시뮬레이션을 수행한 결과, 연계용변압기의 결선방식 및 철심구조에 따라 일정 값(10[A]) 이상의 순환전류가 발생하여, ESS에 전기적인 위해 요인이 될 수 있음을 알 수 있었고, 변압기 포화로 인해 2차측에 최대 3[pu]의 서지전압이 발생될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • 전 세계적으로 반복되는 전력부족현상과 전력설비 노후화에 따른 공급부족에 대응하기 위하여 ESS(Energy Storage System)가 크게 주목 받고 있다. ESS는 에너지를 저장하였다가 필요시 에너지를 공급하는 장치로, 안정적이고 효율적인 에너지 수급이 가능하다. 세계적으로 ESS에 대한 연구 및 개발이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 더불어 각 나라별 다양한 ESS 보급 및 지원 정책으로 더욱 탄력을 받고 있다. 하지만 각 제조사별 상이한 ESS 규격으로 사용자 요구에 따른 ESS 구성 및 운영에 어려움을 겪고 있다. 따라서 제조사별로 상이한 부품 간 인터페이스 규격을 수용할 수 있는 개방형 ESS 시스템 기술이 필요하다. 본 고에서는 제조사별로 상이한 부품 간 정보를 수용할 수 있는 프로파일 기반의 개방형 ESS 시스템 기술을 알아보고 개방형 ESS를 위한 프로파일을 소개한다.

마이크로그리드에서 SOC균형을 고려한 ESS의 충·방전 전력배분 방법 (Power Allocation Method for Multiple ESS Control Considering SOC Balancing in Microgrids)

  • In this paper, multiple ESS(Energy Storage System) control strategy for microgrids is presented. Installation of ESS becomes mandatory when microgrids are used to supply high quality power to the loads. The one of main functions of the ESS is to maintain power balance. However ESS has limitation of its capacity and instantaneous injecting power. Power allocation method based on SOC(State Of Charge) of each ESS is proposed. P-Q control is employed as the basic control strategy for the distributed ESSs. By using the proposed method, the coefficients in the conventional P-Q control method are modified. The ESSs with higher SOC inject more active power, while those with lower SOC inject less, leading to more balanced SOC levels among the ESSs. The proposed method is demonstrated by simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • This paper evaluates economic benefits of ESS (Energy Storage System) for peak load shaving in the substation of urban railway. For this purpose, the method to determine capacities of ESS and PCS (Power Conditioning System) for peak load shaving is proposed. Then the economic benefits of those devices are evaluated using net present value method. The proposed methods are applied to actual measurements of loads in the substation of urban railway. The results show that electric power costs can be reduced and the economic benefits of ESS for peak load shaving mainly depends on the price of battery.

  • This paper proposes the method for determination of the capacities of ESS (Energy Storage System) and PCS (Power Conditioning System) for the peak load shaving based on the load data in the substation of urban railway. In addition, this paper analyze the actual measurement of loads in the substation of urban railway. The load of a weekday in the substation of urban railway is high around rush hours in the morning and evening, which is different from that of a normal substation. The required capacities of ESS and PCS become larger as the amount of peak load shaving is higher, and are affected from the patterns of daily load in the substation.

  • This paper proposes the optimal operation of ESS (Energy Storage System) in the substation of urban railway in an economical point of view. Since the load patterns of urban railway have different characteristics with the general power demand pattern, the characteristics motivate us to develop the optimal operation algorithm for ESS under Korean electricity billing system. We also introduce two different ESS operation strategies for peak load shaving and electricity consumption charge minimization respectively, and formulate each scheme. Historical data from Namgwangju substation are used for economical comparison of the strategies. The results show that the proposed algorithm is the most cost-effective ESS operation scheme among the strategies and reduces around 5 percent of electric charges compared to the charge without ESS operation.

VRFB-LFPB 하이브리드 배터리 기반의 ESS 개발에 관한 연구 (Development of ESS Based on VRFB-LFPB Hybrid Batteries)

  • High-power lithium batteries are suitable for equipment with high power output needs, such as for ESS's initial start-up. However, their management cost is increased by the installation of air-conditioning to minimize the risk of explosion due to internal temperature rise and also by a restriction on the number of charge/discharge cycles. High-capacity flow batteries, on the other hand, have many advantages. They can be used for over 20 years due to their low management costs, resulting from no risk of explosion and a high number of charge/discharge cycles. In this paper, we propose an ESS based on hybrid batteries that uses a lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO) at the initial startup and a vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) from the end of the transient period, with a bi-directional PCS to operate two batteries with different DC voltage levels and using an efficient energy management control algorithm.

  • In this paper, we describe construction of a wind stabilization demo-site and effects of output power control of wind turbines for suppression of ramp rate using ESS (Energy Storage System). It is difficult to control the output power of distributed generator such as wind turbine which of variation is very large. If the large capacity wind farm be interconnected into power system may cause blackout due to Power Quality. For these reasons, the international standards such as Grid-Code is limited to less than 10 [%/min] of renewable energy ramp rate. The case of Korea, government actively conducts propagating large-scale renewable energy for green growth policy, to interconnecting more renewable energy into power system is necessary for stabilization technology. For these reasons, the POSCO consortium has constructed a wind stabilization demo-site that is configured as 500 [kWh] battery energy storage systems can output up to 3 [C-Rate] and two wind turbines rated 750 [kW]. In POSCO consortium, which implements various methods stabilizing output power of wind turbine such as smoothing, section firming and ramp control, we derive the results of long-term demonstration that can be controlled to satisfy to the international standard about ramp rate [%/kW] of wind turbine output power.

  • Due to enhanced demands on quality, security and reliability of the electric power energy system, a microgrid has become a subject of special interest. In this paper, output characteristics of energy storage system (ESS) with an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) and battery energy storage system (BESS) of a renewable energy based microgrid were analyzed under grid-connected and islanded operation modes. The microgrid which consists of photovoltaic and wind power turbine generators, diesel generator, ESS with an EDLC, BESS and loads was modeled using real time digital simulator. The results present the effective control patterns of the microgrid system.
