Measurement of the Anticlinic Coupling Coefficient of an Antiferroelectric Liquid Crystal

  • In this paper, we report a novel way to evaluate the anticlinic interlayer coupling coefficient U between smectic layers of an antiferroelectric liquid crystal, by utilizing a small field-induced perturbation of the molecular orientation. U was found to exhibit an unusual "S-shaped" dependence on temperature, with values ranging between $0.4{\times}10^4$ and $0.4{\times}10^{-1}$ erg $cm^{-3}$ over a 10$^{\circ}C$ temperature range below smectic A-smectic $C_A$ phase transition temperature. The results are good agreement with estimates for U based upon the threshold field for the onset of solitary waves, and provide strong supporting the low-field regime for the single Fourier component model.

We embodied communication system using the ERG so that disabled Person can do communication. After feature extraction of the EEG included facial muscle, it is converted the facial muscle into control signal. and then did so that can select character and communicate idea.

Director gliding on photoaligning surfaces

  • Photoaligning polymers usually possess "sofe" surface, containing flexible groups and provide relatively small anchoring energy($W<10^{-2}$ erg $cm^{-2}$). In this case field-induced reorientation of director on the aligning surface is essential. We have shown that surface director reorientation can modify the aligning surface and result in gliding of the axis of easy orientation of LC. this phenomena together with adsorption/desorption of ions in electric field cause strong sticking effect in LCDs photoaligning materials. We proposed a method of decreasing of the sticking effect based on irradiation of the photoaligning surface by an unpolarized light.

  • 1979. 3.28 미국 TMI-2의 사고를 계기로 개발된 증상기준 비상운전절차서는 고리 3,4/영광 1,2호기의 경우 '92. 2에 개정된 ERG-18를 근거로 하여 각 발전소 운전담당 자들에 의하여 확인 및 검증 (Verification S Validation) 작업을 통하여 금년부터 본격적으로 적용되기에 이르렀다. 그러나 비상운전절차서의 특성상 리 발전소별 특정 설정치의 계산에서 어려움을 겪었으며 아직도 재확인 작업을 통한 최적화 여지가 상 당부분 잔존하고 있다. 여기어서는 고압발전소인 고리-3,4/영장-1,2호기 비상운전절차서에 있어서 증기발생기에 공급되는 정상 밋 비상급수의 전체 상실사고시 노심 노출 방지 및 노심 열 제거를 위해 적응되는 기능회복절차서의 "2차 열제거원 상실시 조치" 중 방출 및 충전 운전의 성공적 시작점을 계산, 개정된 비상운전절차서와 비교하여 특정 발전소의 방출 및 충전 운전 설정치를 제시하였고, 이러한 결과로부터 현재 보수적으로 설정된 값의 완화를 유도하여 방출 및 충전 운전 시작전, 운전원으로 하여금 급수확보를 시도할 수 있는 시간여유의 연장을 도출할 수 있었다.도출할 수 있었다.

The Effect of Manganese Substituted M-type Hexagonal Ba-ferrite

  • The Mn-substituted M-type Ba-ferrite ($BaFe_{12-x}Mn_xO_{19}$; x = 0, 2, 4, 6) powders were prepared by the HTTD (High Temperature Thermal Decomposition) method. The effect of $Mn^{3+}$ Jahn-Teller ions on the magnetic properties has been studied by x-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometry, and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. With increasing Mn substitution, the lattice parameter $a_0$ increases while $c_0$ decreases. The magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants ($K_1$) were determined as 2.9, 2.2, 1.8, and, $1.3{\times}10^6\;erg/cm^3$ for x = 0, 2, 4, and 6, respectively, by the LAS method. We have studied the change of cation distribution by $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectroscopy which is closely related to $K_1$.

  • A novel series of 2-heteroaryl substituted benzimidazole derivatives, containing the piperidinylphenyl acetamide group at the 1-position, were synthesized and evaluated as MCH-R1 antagonists. Extensive SAR investigation probing the effects of C-2 heteroaryl group led to the identification of 2-[2-(pyridin-3-yl)ethyl] analog 3o, which exhibits highly potent MCH-R1 binding activity with an $IC_{50}$ value of 1 nM. This substance 3o also has low hERG binding activity, good metabolic stability, and favorable pharmacokinetic properties.

  • Cases of drug-induced QT prolongation and sudden cardiac deaths resulted in market withdrawal of many drugs and world-wide regulatory changes through accepting the ICH guidelines E14 and S7B. However, because the guidelines were not comprehensive enough to cover the electrophysiological changes by drug-induced cardiac ion channel blocking, CiPA was initiated by experts in governments and academia in the USA, Europe, and Japan in 2013. Five years have passed since the launch of the CiPA initiative that aimed to improve the current ICH guidelines. This report reviews the current achievements of the CiPA initiative and explores unresolved issues.

FR-II radio jets and the acceleration of UHECRs

  • To investigate the acceleration of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) in relativistic jets of FR-II galaxies, we simulate high-power jets with jet powers of Q~10^46erg/s in a stratified galaxy cluster halo using a state-of-art relativistic hydrodynamic (RHD) code we have recently developed. With the simulated jet-induced flow profiles, we then perform Monte-Carlo simulations, where the transport of high-energy particles is followed assuming large-angle scatterings in the flow-rest frame. We estimate the energy gains and acceleration times in the acceleration processes by shocks, shear, and turbulence. We present the results and discuss implications on the acceleration of UHECRs in FR II radio jets.

Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of Iron Doped La-Sr-Mn-O (철을 미량 치환한 La-Sr-Mn-O의 결정학적 및 자기적 특성 연구)

  • The iron-doped perovskite La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$Mn$_{0.99}$$^{57}$Fe$_{0.01}$O$_3$compound has been studied by x-ray diffraction, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometry. The single phase of the polycrystalline La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$Mn$_{0.99}$$^{57}$Fe$_{0.01}$O$_3$powder has been prepared by a waterbased solgel method. Crystalline La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.33}$Mn$_{0.99}$$^{57}$Fe$_{0.01}$O$_3$was a rombohedral structure with lattice parameters a$_{0}$=5.480 $AA$, $alpha$=60.259$^{circ}$. Mossbauer spectra of La$_{0.67}$Sr$_{0.3}$/Mn$_{0.99}$$^{57}$Fe$_{0.01}$O$_3$have been taken at various temperatures ranging from 20 to 400 K. As the temperature increases toward the Curie temperature, T$_{c}$=375 K, the Mossbauer spectra show line broadening and the difference between the 1,6 and 3,4 linewidths is caused by the anisotropic hyperfine field fluctuation. The anisotropic field fluctuation of +H (P$_{+}$=0.80) is greater than -H (P$_{-}$=0.20). We calculated that the anisotropy energy was 124.01 erg/cm$^3$for T=150 K which is associated with the large line broadening.

  • The present study was performed to produce supermales and superfemales in Oreochromis niloticus by combination of induced sex reversal and diploid gynogenesis. More than $95\%$ of female was obtained by oral administration of $17\beta-estradiol$ (480 mg/kg diet) to the eutheroembryonic larvae of this species. The result of progeny tests with XY pseudofemales showed that incidences of male progeny were ranged from $71.4\%\;to\;73.7\%$. p.opo.lion of male from XY pseudofemale was not significantly different (P>0.05) from that of $\chi^2$ (1:3), but it was significantly different (P<0.01) from that of $\chi^2$(1:1) Gynogenetic diploids were produced by applying cold shocks 3 min after insemination to the eggs of XY pseudofemale sperms were genetically inactivated by ultraviolet rays of 4,050 $erg/mm^2$. Fertilization rates of gynogenetic diploids were not different from that of their controls, however, hatching rates and early survival rates were silghtly lower than those of controls. In the cytogenetic studies, there was no difference in the size of cell and nucleus between the gynogenetic diploids and the controls. At 80 days after hatching, frequencies of gynogenetic male were higher than those of gynogenetic female (P<0.01) in their population.
