  • This study presents a AC electric railway system model using PSCAD/EMTDC. Ver.3.08 for circuit analysis and fault studies. This system model made by PSCAD/EMTDC is composed of feeder, contact line, rails, Scott-transformer, Auto-transformer. This model is based on four-port network which is an extension of two-port network theory. In order to verify the proposed model, each voltage of feeder-rail, contact line-rail and feeder-contact line is measured and fault studies are also simulated.

  • This paper presents the results of a grid-connected photovoltaic(PV) system modeling that contain incremental conductance MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) controller by PSCAD/EMTDC simulator and investigates the influence that can occur in the grid-connected PV system from aspect of power quality, i.e. voltage drop, total harmonic distortion(THD) and total demand distortion(TDD). The measured data the PV array modeling of PSCAD/EMTDC in Cheongwadae, Seoul, Korea is used in the paper.

  • We have studied a weird phenomenon on the High Voltage Impulse Track Circuit (HVITC). The biggest problem is that can not recognize the fault states, despite the fact the rail is broken. This study has shown that current HVITC systems can be operated even an ill-contact state of impedance bond lead wire. This study was carried out using various methods, such as measurements using an oscilloscope with voltage and current probes, simulations using PSCAD/EMTDC software tool, and analysis of measured data. Especially, we have simulated the fault state through bypass circuits using PSCAD/EMTDC software tool. We made a model of track circuit and simulated various types of fault states.

  • In recent years, with the continuous development of modem power system, the need for high performance protection to meet the customers' requests for more stable and reliable power supply has become increasingly emphasized. So, there is urgent need for a proper testing platform about not only existing digital protection relay but also new digital protection relay on the transmission line. It is also dynamic-state test which can test the performance of digital relay. This paper suggests basic system model for testing transmission line protection using PSCAD/EMTDC, and presents the process of the component modeling in the basic system.

  • Power line communication channels are very complicated and models for communication channels vary with the types of electrical equipment, devices and load fluctuations. So, modeling and analysis of power line channels for implementation of power line communication systems is a very important process. Power line channel modeling and simulation are performed based on power system transient simulation models and power system CAD tools to create precise and accurate models. In this paper, a channel modeling and simulation method is proposed for power line communication systems using PSCAD/EMTDC, in which a PN 63 sequence code generator is applied for impulse response of the power line channel in the simulation model.

  • A direct current electric power system is one of the most important power source in a metro railway system. As railway system is growing up today, the importance of DC electric power system is emphasized. The study for systemization and standardization of design and operation technique in DC electric power system is undergoing nowadays. For these studies, the development of standard analysis model for metro railway electric power system is required. In this paper, a standard analysis model for metro railway electric power system which is using PSCAD/EMTDC program is proposed. The proposed model is explained and the validity is shown by using the case studies.

  • The functional test of protection relays is divided into two kind of test types; the steady-state test and dynamic test. Because the steady-state test is comparatively easy, this test is used to test the characteristics of the relaying elements, operating values, resetting values and etc. using equipment such as Doble. But the dynamic test has to be performed on the test environment with RTDS(real time digital simulator) because of the dynamic characteristics of real protection relays. Therefore, it is not usually easy to perform dynamic test of relays using power system simulation tool based on PC(personal computer) such as PSCAD/EMTDC. This paper discusses how to develop and implement a test model and user-defined components that can be performed dynamic test using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • Before applying HTS power cable to the real utility. system analysis should be carried out by some simulation tools . Hereby the electrical power system analysis is very important for practical use of HTS devices. Nowadays PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool is one of the most popular and useful analysis tool for the electrical power system analysis. Unfortunately the model component for HTS power cable is not provided in the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool In this paper. the EMTDC model component for HTS power cable has been developed considering critical current, critical temperature and recovery time constant that depend on the sorts of HTS wire. The numerical model of HTS Power cable in PSCAD/EMTDC was designed by using the real experimented data obtained from the real HTS 1G wire test. The utility application analysis of HTS power cable was also performed using the developed model component and the parameters of the real utility network in this study. The author's got good results. The developed model component for HTS power cable could be variously used when the power system includes HTS power cable, especially it will be readily analyzed by PSCAD/EMTDC in order to obtain the data for the level of fault current power flow, and power losses, and so on.

  • 본 논문은 2003년 한전 실계통(154kV 강진 S/S)에 적용예정인 80MVA UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller)시스템의 동적특성을 EMTDC/PSCAD를 이용하여 분석한 결과이다. UPFC는 FACTS 기기중 전압, 임피던스, 위상각등 전력전송 제어를 위한 송전선로의 모든 파라미터를 동시에 독립적으로 제어 할 수 있는 FACTS기기[1]로서, 미국 Inez S/S, Marcy S/S에 이어 강진 S/S에 80MVA 용량의 UPFC가 실계통 적용될 예정이다. 본 논문은 과도현상 해석 프로그램인 PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용하여 80MVA UPFC 제어기와 적용 대상 계통인 강진 S/S 인근 계통을 모델링하고 상정사고에 대한 UPFC 제어효과 분석에 대하여 기술하였다. 적용된 EMTDC UPFC모델은 실제 80MVA UPFC 기기에 채용된 전력회로, 제어기, 보호시스템과 동일하게 모델링하였으며 적용 대상계통은 PSS/E 해석결과와 동일하도록 강진 S/S인근 계통을 축약 등가화한 계통모델을 사용하였다.
