Magnetic leakage flux which is generated from the levitation magnets, linear induction motors, and guide magnets of a MagLev(Magnetic Levitation) system is directly related to inter - system EMI, intra - system EMI, and biological effects. In this paper, the magnetic leakage flux from MagLev vechicles designed by Korea Resarch Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering was calculated considering the various parameters which influence ma- gnetic field intensity around the MagLev system. Based on the calculated field intensity, the thickness of shielding material and shielding position for MagLev floor and side walls are calculated, taking into account the shielding effectiveness of a shield with minimum weight. For the nonuniform shielding method derived from the above procedure, the weight of a shield con- sisting of floor and side walls shielding can be reduced to more 50% than uniform shielding method.
There are various shielding materials that have been considered; the use of a metallic plate or the layering of a conductive material on a plastic surface and the insertion of filler in plastics. All of these methods have shown their merits and weakness. Therefore, many studies have concentrated on developing materials that effectively cut down EMI without increase in weights of housing materials. In these respects, this study has focused on investigations of the shielding effect of materials that have electroless nickel plating on the lamella structured micro particles surface with low specific gravity. When a film of electroless nickel were plated on a micro particle surfaces and then mixed with paint, the electromagnetic shielding effects were measured as 63dB. Although these effects were less than that 90dB of the copper plate, trials in a series of 6 times increased the shielding effect by IOdB and is applicable to wide range of EMI shielding.

In this study, we intended to achieve both antibacterial properties and electromagnetic shielding using the Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films. FTS (Facial Target Sputtering) magnetron sputtering was used for the AZO thin films instead of the conventional RF sputtering because the FTS sputtering could avoid the damage for the plasma as well as fabrication of thin films with a high quality. The 300-nm thick AZO thin films grown on glass substrate showed a resistivity of about $7{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}-cm$ and a transmittance of about 90% at a wavelength of 550 nm. AZO thin films were investigated for the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness measured by 2-port network method at 1.5 ~ 3 GHz. The AZO (300 nm)/glass films showed an EMI shielding effectiveness of approximately 27 dB. An antibacterial effect was measured by the film attachment method (JIS Z 2801). The percent reductions of bacteria by AZO films were 99.99668% and 99.99999% against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively.

The objective of this research is to investigate the influence of material characteristic and design on to the electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding characteristics. Basalt glass fiber reinforced composite specimens with stainless fiber conductive filler were manufactured to perform the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness(SE) experiments. In order to reflection and absorb the specimen in electromagnetic fields, flanged coaxial transmission line sample holder was fabricated according to ASTM D 4935-89. Electromagnetic shielding effectiveness(EMSE) was measured quantitatively to examine the electromagnetic shielding characteristics of designed specimens. The result of EMI shielding experiments showed that maximum EMSE value of sandwich type specimens with GSG(basalt glass fiber/stainless fiber/basalt glass fiber) and SGS(stainless fiber/basalt glass fiber/stainless fiber) were 65dB and 80dB at a frequency of 1,500MHz, respectively.

The conductive polymers, polyaniline (PANI) emeraldine base and 3, 4-polyethylene dioxythiophene (PEDOT) were synthesized and coated on the PET film primer-dealt with acryl type to find out the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness. When conductive polymer such as PANI and PEDOT is used, if the thickness of coating increases then the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness increases, too, but the visible light transmittance decreases. For PANI, when its conductivity increased, its electromagnetic shielding effectiveness increased, too. For PANI, if the surface resistance is about 140 $\Omega$/$\square$, the shielding effectiveness is about 11 dB in the far field, and about 13 dB in the near field at 1 GHz. For PEDOT, when the surface resistance is about 200 $\Omega$/$\square$, the shielding effectiveness is about 3 dB.

Novel continuous electroforming process equipped with a rotating patterned mandrel, soluble/insoluble anode and multiple stage of rolling wheels was proposed to produce precision nickel mesh, which is known as a very efficient electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding material. Continuously electroformed nickel deposits showed a tendency to form small-sized particles as the plating solution temperature increased and mandrel rotation speeded up and the applied current density decreased. Along the honeycomb patterns of mandrel, nickel was accurately electrodeposited on the surface of rotating mandrel, but quite different visual/structural characteristics were measured on both sides.
Hydrophilic contact lens was prepared by dispersing MXene material in a hydrogel mixture, and the purpose of this study was to evaluate its properties as an ophthalmic material. The MXene used in the experiment was manufactured through an etching process using titanium aluminum carbide 312 [Ti3AlC2] and hydrofluoric acid [HF]. For the preparation of hydrophilic contact lenses, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate [HEMA], a photoinitiator 2-hydroxy-2-methylpropiophenone [2H2M], and a cross-linker Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate [EGDMA] were used, and UV-rays was irradiated for 50 seconds for photopolymerization. Optical transmittance, refractive index, water content, contact angle, electromagnetic wave shielding ability, and photo-thermal conversion effect were measured to evaluate the physical properties of the manufactured contact lens. Compared to MXene materials, MXene mixed with Dimethyl sulfoxide [DMSO] had superior dispersion ability in organic solvents, and the transparency of the prepared hydrophilic contact lenses was high. MXene did not significantly affect the refractive index and water content, and improved the wettability of the contact lens. In addition, the MXene material used as an additive showed electromagnetic wave shielding ability and photo-thermal conversion effect based on its excellent electrical conductivity. It is judged that the mixture using MXene as an additive can be used as a functional contact lens material for electromagnetic wave shielding and ocular photo-thermal therapy.

In this paper, we analyzed the frequency spectrum of radiated electromagnetic waves which is generated by corona discharges as a basic study to develop a on-line diagnostic technique for power facilities installed in a closed-switchboard. Five types of electrode system were arranged to simulate corona discharge. The experiment was carried out in an electromagnetic shielding room, and the measurement system consists of an Ultra Log Antenna and an EMI Test Receiver. These results showed that the frequency spectrum of corona discharges exists widely in ranges from 30 to 1,000 [MHz].

This paper presents the delivered power and reflection coefficient in metallic shielding enclosure excited by the interior source, which are evaluated with the method of moments, and describes a method for reducing the radiation of electromagnetic fields in the cavity by putting lossy dielectric material in one inside wall. In this paper we introduce carbon polystyrene-foam as lossy dielectric material and observe it's effects of reduction when the thickness and permittivity of lossy dielectric material are changed. The results show that the reduction of the electromagnetic radiation can be achieved by controlling the amount of carbon in lossy dielectric material. The theoretical analysis is verified by the measured delivered power.

Electrically conducting polymers such as polypyrrole(PPy) or poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene)(PEDOT) were sequentially polymerized chemically and electrochemically on various kinds of woven fabrics, giving rise to the fabrics with high electrical conductivity. The specific volume resistivity of the fabric prepared in this study was extremely low as 0.2 $\Omega$-cm. We figured out the electrically conducting fabrics were practically useful for many applications such as an EMI shielding material, a flexible surface heating element or a strain sensor for large deformation.
